MGM16018 brake ??????????????

I've ran my MGM 16018 in a convert truggy for a long time with mechanical brake, but now, i've put it in my new e-revo, so i don not having choice to run it with motor brake, but yesterday night, i've setup my controler and try the truck, but the controller don't want to brake. When i hit the brake , it's like if the motor fall in neutral, it's like another "freewheel", but without any brake.

I've the 3.21 sw in the controller, i'am setup in car mode brake/forward, and the brake seting is set at .23ms if i remember well.

Is somebody could help me please??

Thank you!

David

try putting your brake on a harder setting parameter B option 6 or 7 , by sounds of it you have selected option 2 on parameter B ( light 1, 0.26sec)

jhautz 07.25.2008 03:02 PM

lol.... I had one that actually would eccelerate for a few seconds when I hit the brake. Not every time, but just often enough to freak you out. :oh:

The MGM barakes are still suspect IMO. I wun mine in a savage with mechanical brakes. It takes a heavy load, but the rest of the features are not very refined.

david lamontagn 07.25.2008 03:05 PM

Ya!, i think that i'll run mine like that and as soon as i'll find somes fund for a MMM, and when MMM will be available i'll order one.

bdebde 07.25.2008 03:07 PM

Try setting 6 or 7 in the brake strength (farther to right), that's what it takes for me to get good brakes.

Try upgrading to 3.23 version software on controller; it is miles better for me now.

david lamontagn 07.25.2008 06:02 PM

OK i'll try to upgrade version, but don't know very much how to do.
I'll gona make a little visit on the MGM web site.

Desmo 07.25.2008 10:11 PM

You need a higher brake setting. My elst will flip over on its roof if you hit the brakes to hard.

david lamontagn 07.26.2008 12:03 AM

OK i just download the 3.23 version in my 16018, and all the download process was succesfully.
But when i connect my controller on the USBCOM+ by the CC_02 cable to go modify somes parameter in the controller, the version SW shown still the old one, the 3.21:oh:

WHY??????

david lamontagn 07.26.2008 12:30 AM

Just remake the completed download procedure and when i return on the controler device to program the controler, the version is always display 3.21.
And when i've download the 3.23, the po-up box tell "device update succesfully!!"

don't understand anything:neutral:

bdebde 07.26.2008 12:36 AM

When you do the update again, what does the "current version" show in the MGM flasher.

david lamontagn 07.26.2008 01:17 AM

3.23:eyes:

bdebde 07.26.2008 03:05 AM

Did you try a "reset to defaults" in the software?

Quattro 83 07.26.2008 06:08 AM

Brake Issue

I recently bought a new 16018 directly from MGM as I live in Europe (normally buy everything from RCM!), and had exactly the same issues with "no brake". I tried every brake setting, and had the latest software.

I was running with a Spektrum DX3.0, pro receiver, and Neu 15151y. I was able to adjust all other features via the pc, but not the brake!

In the end I simply adjusted the throttle end points out to their max 125% setting on the transmitter, and the brake started to work, job done!

david lamontagn 07.26.2008 10:02 AM

I'll make some ride with the present seetting just to break-in my new batteries, and after that, i'll rester the controller to the defaults value and make an auto-tune.

david lamontagn 07.27.2008 12:27 AM

OK:yipi:give it a try today for the first time, and the brake is very good, i can flip the truck on it's lid just with a little hit on the brake.

This e-revo is super smooth, and it's the first time that i run a 6s setup, it's fantastic!!
The truck is quiet, the suspension is realy well tune, i realy like it.

david lamontagn 08.01.2008 08:33 AM

OK somes news on the MGM brake.

The brake on this controller is a piece of scrape:whistle:

I'am not able to have a linear braking. Some times, when i touch the brake just a little bit, the controller lock the wheel immediatly and the back of my truck raise in the air and fall on it's lid, and other time, when i touch the brake, the controller start to give full trottle:surprised:

The rest of the controller run very good, it's smooth, it run cool, but the brake is a dump:eyes:

I've try to upgrade to the 3.23 software, but the controller seam to not want to load it, i've try twice to download it, and both time, the download process was succesfull, but when i connect the controller to change somes parameters, the version is still the 3.21. I've try to run an autotuning, but don't change anything.

As soon as the MMM v2 will be in stock, i'll buy it for sure.

I can't understand why a $300.00 ++ controller can't have a progresive brake in it. And i can't understand why it give trottle when i touching brake. I've try to reinitialise the end point on it (full trottle, wait for 3 bips, full brake wait for 1 bip and neutral wait for 2 bips), but nothing to do.

I don't know if you can immagine, but when i run at WOT, and i try to give a little brake, and the controller decided to lock the rotor.....:surprised: ouch!!!!1 the drive train:oh:
And on other side, when i'am near an obstacle and i want to brake and the controller give full trottle, same thing, ouch!! the front a-arm:no:

A fellow RCer sent me an e-mail asking about an issue he was having with his MGM. I was kind of thinking and got my MGM8012 and tried my JR R-1 with Spektrum to see if that was the problem. Well it was. MGM seems to have difficulties with 2.4ghz radios. My Airtronics M8 (FM btw ) works fine with the MGM8012.

david lamontagn 08.01.2008 11:13 AM

:oh:Maybe... I'll try to find somebody here who have a standard FM radio and try it.
If all goes fine with FM radio, i'll run with that and keep my Futaba 2.4 for my baja.

This is the e-mail the sent from MGM to the fellow RCer:

"some of 2,4 GHz RC equipments use "HRS" modulation. Older controllers donīt know this modulation, checking signal from receiver, and no working.

-Please, try again programming min., max. and neutral throttle position. When controller will donīt work aftter this, necessary is send your ESC to upgarde SW to us. Newest ESC working with these RC equipments without problem."

Keep trying to get the new firmware loaded to your ESC. The issue might have been fixed.

david lamontagn 08.01.2008 11:40 AM

I've send my controller to MGM last winter for the SW upgrade. Now i've try to run it in HRS mode and in normal PP mode, and nothing to do.

I don't know why i've the succesfull message when i download the 3.23 SW and as soon as i return on the controler framework to read data, it's always the older 3.21 version is shown:neutral:

search the forums here others had problems updating the firmware

david lamontagn 08.01.2008 01:37 PM

Yes, i've read all other post about that, and not able to have a clear and precise answer:whistle:
So i'll make my own test:wink:

Quattro 83 08.01.2008 01:40 PM

Hope you manage to upgrade your software, sure your MGM will work fine when you do!

I've read loads of negative posts regarding MGM's which really put me off buying one, but I recently took the plunge, and bought a new 16018. It's honestly one of the best controllers I've ever used.

I have 2 MM's, had a Quark Monster, and an MMM which is being repaired, and the MGM has (in my opinion) been the best. It runs really cool, (I bought the model with fans attached) is easy to program via the pc, and has an incedibly smooth start up with Neu motors, right up there with a Quark. Yes the MMM, has more features, and an unbeatable price, but new MGM's with the latest software are great controllers!

david lamontagn 08.01.2008 02:02 PM

I know, appart the brake issus, i realy like this controller. But i don't understand why i'am not able to download the 3.23 software.

Which version did you have?? 3.21, 3.22 or 3.23?

Quattro 83 08.01.2008 02:36 PM

I have the latest 3.23 software, and apart from having to set the throttle end points on my DX3.0 to 125% it's been very, very easy to set up.

If I get some time at the weekend I'll try and read up on upgrading software, as you know the instructions aren't exactly the easiest to follow, lol!

I'm sure with the amount of knowledgeable people on this forum someone will be able to point you in the right direction, hang in there!!

bdebde 08.01.2008 03:20 PM

I thought someone in another thread had the same upgrading problem and figured it out (not sure though).

With the old software (3.04) on my 16024 I had probably seen every problem that others have experienced. I managed to get things working with trying different set ups and returning controller to factory defaults and reprogramming to radio as if new controller. Even when it did work "right" the brakes were not consistent and reverse was unusable. Now with the version 3.23 on it everything works as it should; reverse works great and brakes feel much more consistent.

david lamontagn 08.01.2008 07:46 PM

Nothing to do, just try 5 time to download the 3.23, all the download process go very well, the download window say "device updated successfully".

I disconect the USBCOM+ from the computer, replace the CC_03 cable by the CC_02 and restart the controler v1.27 to gona see the parameter in my controller, and the version still the older 3.21:eyes:

FU..

e-mike 08.01.2008 07:53 PM

lolll....its time for the mamba monster maxx:lol::mdr:

did you disconnect the batteries to the esc and restart the computer before reconnecting?

No:oh:
I've only disconect the USBCOM++ from the computer, put the switch on the controler to "off", reconnect the USBCOM++ and put the switch back to "on"

Just try it, but nothing to do:neutral:

Desmo 08.01.2008 11:47 PM

the mgm esc is on as soon as you plug it in. The switch only stops it from moving

david lamontagn 08.01.2008 11:52 PM

Yes i know, i've unplug the red wire, but when i go on the controller program V 1-2-10 to program the controler, the SW version still on 3.20:neutral:

I follow exactly this procedure
http://update.mgm-compro.cz/flasher/manualEN.pdf

fkadir 08.01.2008 11:57 PM

David, you are in the same situation as me. I tried upgrading the controller and every is successful but the software still reports it as 3.20!

bdebde 08.02.2008 12:01 AM

Check this post and the next two after it. May help out.

david lamontagn 08.02.2008 12:23 AM

I did exactly what this guys said, but nothing.

Too bad

Desmo 08.02.2008 12:34 AM

did you try powering up esc after the update without it plugged into the usb?

david lamontagn 08.02.2008 01:02 AM

Just try it, but not work:sleep:

bdebde 08.02.2008 11:39 AM

Time to send an email to MGM.

coolrunnings 08.02.2008 12:22 PM

I just got mine back from mgm and it took 2 months to get updated plus 20.00 for shipping.
