Did I do something stupid?

I want to get into 1/8th scale so I just picked this up..

What's the word on this controller/motor setting? I can't find out anything about this controller, like amp draw and voltage limitations :( Also do I need anything else besides lipos, servo, and reciever? I think that it's the same setup as this:

Thanks for any opinions.

Bad links.

"Up for auction is a brushless converted Hyper 7. Runs great. Bought it and borrowed a friends battery packs and this thing is super fast. Only drove it once since i bought it. Has never seen a nitro engine. It has a Warrior LMT/BKType 18/3 bec ecu with a Feigao 5408410L motor. I just don't have a time with my other hobby (real cars). Was going to race it at the track but can't seem to find the time. Bid with confidence. I am selling all of my RC. I have a Mad Force, Hyper 7 brushless and a Hyper 7 nitro for sale. Thanks for looking. If you have any questions feel free to ask. "

299.00 The thing looks brand new.

Looks like either an e-maxx tranny, or a hack job on the motor plate. Other cuts look rough. But as long as the diffs, axles, chassis, etc (expensive stuff) are ok, I would say 300 is a decent price considering you get a motor and ESC. Of course that depends on if you plan to continue using that combo - personally, an L motor is a little small, and the ESC has no built-in LVC.

NVM, I see the CD now... the other pics weren't showing up at first...

e-mikey 08.07.2008 07:36 PM

I was hoping this wasn't the case. I wish I consulted first. :/

BrianG 08.07.2008 07:38 PM

That's just my opinion. If you like it and it works well, that's all that counts, right?

e-mikey 08.07.2008 07:44 PM

lol, not really, I'm the never really happy type.

I do have a MM I can throw in it, with a 8xl that i'm using for my revo. I just want something I can be a competitor with at the track, we're allowed to race nitros..

Thanks for the help.

What esc is this, the 9918?

big greg 08.07.2008 08:04 PM

looks like he chopped a motor plate up and bolted it on there, not a bad buy really, ditch the motor and speedo on the bay or somthing for 100$ or so and youll have that money towards a lipo

I'd like to go 4s, will I be putting 2 batteries on the deck, or 1?

big greg 08.07.2008 08:19 PM

up to you, personally 1 lipo is easier to deal with, less charging, less trays, but its all up to you, ive seen both on the hyper, both work good

e-mikey 08.07.2008 08:24 PM

appreciate the help.

I wonder if truerc 2s2p 6400 15c's would fit on the tray. I'm trying to find the dimensions now. Any clue?

e-mikey 08.07.2008 08:25 PM

Also does anyone know if the is the sport, pro, pbs?

big greg 08.07.2008 08:36 PM

the true rc packs will fit, and man there a deal, at 88 bucks a pop

e-mikey 08.07.2008 08:38 PM

I'm very happy with these packs actually, I get great runtimes on my erevo.

big greg 08.08.2008 07:04 PM

oh you have them already? i ran the 2s 8000's in my revo, they were sweet

What's_nitro? 08.08.2008 07:59 PM

That conversion doesn't look too bad, actually. Assuming he has the motor plate and center diff mounted securely then I'd say your GTG. I would swap in your MM for the BK, or pick up a separate LVC. The BK's aren't bad ESCs.

tc3_racer_001 08.08.2008 10:47 PM

how about a zippy lipo? 25C, $77... lower capacity though, but why carry all that extra weight (its to compensate for the lower C rating...

hemiblas 08.09.2008 12:02 AM

I was running the 10L motor in my converted buggy and it was plenty fast. You might be suprised. Those buggies dont weigh much especially if you get a lipo. An XL motor might be overkill. The 10L was breaking the metal cvds right off my buggy. The warrior also isnt a bad speed controller. 300 seems like a pretty good price for everything.
I would install the mamba so you can set punch control. You will probably want to tone it down some.

Wow I gave the exact opposite advice as everyone here. You guys must be serious speed junkies. The 10L would lay 10+ feet of rubber on the pavement. It had so much power I had to buy a second buggy for parts cause they kept breaking because of all the power. Once of the hardened steel cvd's broke right in the center. I have never seen anything like that before.

I dont know if it makes any difference, but I had the rd logics sho buggy. Maybe its not as strong but it looks just like the one you got. Yeah thats the emaxx motor plate. I did the same thing. All it took was 2 holes, cut a piece off the bottom and it worked perfect.

tc3_racer_001 08.09.2008 12:25 AM

the hypers are like tanks - hence why i got one :)

they weigh a lot, but are indestructable... ive not heard of more than a few blowing up the diffs, which are usually the weakest link!

e-mikey 08.09.2008 08:47 AM

Thanks everyone, I feel better about my decision. The reason I went with the hyper is because I hear they're rock solid, should be a good club racer/nitro killer. The track is kind of tight, so I'm thinking it should be okay for awhile. I just hope I can find parts for it seeing how its years old.

Does anyone know if this is the 9918?

Yeah, the 2 of them in my erevo with a mm and 8xl is a beast. I keep stripping my rims and thermaling, that's a whole other thread. Can't wait for the MMM. One of the batteries got all swolen and Dan at true RC was quick to replace it. Top notch service.

coolrunnings 08.09.2008 11:23 AM

You didnt get a good deal, I don't think you got screwed either. I would grab an rc monster motor mount and battery tray asap than a 9xl motor with rc monster heatsink clamp. I would also grab a mamba monster the second mike gets them in (which should be very soon) also toss that motor and control back on feebay straight away! O yea I forgot get a polyquest 4s 5000mah pack from mike.

coolrunnings 08.09.2008 11:26 AM

Hemiblas, really?

suicideneil 08.09.2008 06:58 PM

Couldnt tell ya what esc it is- he says "18/3"- thats not a model# I'ved heard of, unless he typed it wrong. Im gonna guess thats 18cells and.... 300amps? lol. You'll have to ask him for a better picture of the esc.
