Good E Revo shock Setup?
Was wondering what everyone with a new erevo (plastic chassis) is running in the way of springs and shock oil?
I have heard that the stock setup is a bit soft. My erevo was not bought new, rather I built it from parts... I read hear that someone was using the stock oil with orange front springs and gold rear. He also had the traxxas swaybars. I have a set of tekno swaybars that I could use. Wonder which of the the three bar sizes to use? I am not the best at setting up suspensions, so any help would be greatly appreciated!!! |
In my converted Revo, I used the stiffest springs Traxxas offers; purple and blue if memory serves. Even with thicker shock oil, I found it would bottom out too easily with anything lighter.

I think mine is the basically the same as brians shock setup. Purple and blue with 50 wt oil.

well, I havn't got my erevo yet, hopefully at the end of the month...but i plan on setting it up like the platinum revo setup
FRONT... Orange springs oil........ 50w , i'll use 60w REAR.... Gold springs oil........50w, i'll use 60w |
I have the orange and gold on it right now, and the front seems fine, but the rear sags a bit, even with a fair amount of preload. Whatever oil is in the shocks (got them used, so I have no idea) seems fine.
What is the next harder spring up from the gold? |
I went with the orange and gold on my revo. Basically the revo platinum setup. Add the Traxxas sway bars. It makes a world of difference in the handleing. The thing handles almost like a truggy with the sway bars.

I recently tried the purples on the rear, and while it helped with the sag, the truck was all over the place. I put new GTR Ti shocks on yesterday. It is still soft, but the action is much improved. I think that I also used to skip on the shock oil which probably had some effect. I hated having it drip out, so I'd just not put as much in - I think the system relies on having it at maximum capacity. How did you "dial out preload"? Just curious. I'd start with the middle sized sway bar. You can also play with roll over/balance by changing which hole the uppper hinge pins are in. |

Even if they get overfilled, when you screw the caps on, any overflow comes out the little overflow hole in the cap. I'm not sure what oil the Traxxas stuff comes with. I'd find out and then go 2-5k over that if going with the stiffest setup. I want to say I used 50k shock oil, but I really don't remember now.

If you go to stiff it handles like poop on the track. It just gets tossed around by every bump.
pimp... I'm sure the Tekno bars will work just as well as the traxxas bars. I just went with the Traxxas becasue the rear Teknos go above the shocks rather than behind and they tend to get in the way of the speed control and wires and stuff. I like the way traxxas tucked them behind the truck. |

Just a little question, i've put the LT rocker on my e-revo, should i remove the little blue spacer on the push rod with this LT rocker or should i leave it there??

I just up'ed my shock weight to 50K on the rears last night (still with the orange springs), and that seemed to help. But its not quite there - I'll have to buy the next step up in springs. NONE of my local LHS had any springs, or any of the P2 or P3 rockers. And one of them just laughed when I asked about the variable damping piston set (that store basically caters only to those that are just upgrading from Radio Shack).

Sorry to just but in, but can you get different shock pistons with smaller or fewer holes? Or would that even help the problem?

Yes, you can. In fact the rebuild kit includes different config's of pistons. Its just a PIA to change them out. And, as was stated before, there are variable rate pistons that have a small spring tab over the hole.

7 to 9 lbs is a huge difference. If its 7 lbs (which I seriously doubt), then you should be down in the 20-30WT. Over that, and you will be up into the 50-60wt. Also depends on which spring you run.

I am converting a 2.5 to a direct drive outrunner setup. I took off every non-essential things. Right now it is 5 pounds without electronics. The electronics weight about two pounds and after trays etc it should be 7.5-8.

well, i thought i would add my set-up to the mix..
I run the VDP's(size 2). Traxxas sways(black) 60-65wt oil. "Green" front springs "Tan" back. Its running good so far, but I may step up the front springs a bit. |
