eXRay Slasher
Just finished my Slash/Slayer copycat project, so here's some info:
Basic car: XRay XB8 (old racer, bought as a roller, cleaned and reconditioned) Motor: Feigao 540 XL 08 Battery: Zippy-H 4S1P 4000mAh LiPo ESC: Mamba Max with CC BEC Weight: 3895 grams (8,59 pounds), as ready to drive Modifications: RCM motor & servo mount, RCM motor heatsink, modified Tekno battery tray, pretty much selfmade or heavily modificated body mounts for Slash body, modified Slash front bumper, selfmade rear bumper mounts from very tough 6mm industrial plastic with E-Maxx bumper and E-Maxx rear skid. Now if I'd just dare to take this beauty outside... http://janezki.pp.fi/grfx/xrayxb8/ex...her001_640.jpg http://janezki.pp.fi/grfx/xrayxb8/ex...her004_640.jpg http://janezki.pp.fi/grfx/xrayxb8/ex...her007_640.jpg Project pictures can be found from here. (yes, I vented one lipo when testing the buggy with 3500kv L-sized motor...) |
simply beautiful, i love it
|
Nice conversion..let us know how it runs and post some vids too.... :yipi:
|
That is awesome! How did you mount up those bumpers and skids? P.S. Sorry to hear about the lipo.
|
Sweet conversion. I want to do that to my mbx-5 buggy as we speak. Any clearance issues w/the tires and body rubbing on impact?

Thanks for your comments, appreciated.
Will definetely get some video, hopefully this weekend if it'd just stop raining... The front bumper is shortened from bottom and bolted straight to the original miniature bumper, upper part is attached to the front shock tower with zip ties atm (not seen on pics) - should really fix that... :mdr: Rear skid is shortened a lot and placed to the slot between the chassis & whole rear assembly where the original "bumper" was (see attachement). Wheel arches are opened quite a bit, no rubbing in any wheel position when suspension is compressed equally - the chassis hits ground before. I have ordered a thin stock XB8 body, which I'm planning to paint black and place on it's original position (under the Slash body) to protect the insides when driving on dirt. |
That looks great! Nice work. :great: It looks completely factory from the outside.
|
I do like your rear bumper mount :intello:. Very creative! Nice job overall!
|
Looks great. What are those chrome wheels?
Anyone seen a shot of the Slash and Slayer body next to each other to see size difference? |
Never mind, just saw the photo of the wheels in your build up

First test drive with the final car is done now and I'm pretty pleased with the results. Speeds are good and no overheating occurred. Video from the event can be seen in here. Also here's a shot from the loggers graph with info from amps, battery voltage, motor temperature and power. (click to see it big) http://janezki.pp.fi/grfx/xrayxb8/ex...l08_1st_th.png |
Nice vid...
now I cant wait to finish my conversion :yipi: |
Very nice job , that third picture looks factory
Is that Slash or Slayer body ? Do you mind if i use a couple of your pics on a local forum i go on down here in Australia . Looks like we might be organizing a CORR class at our track and half of us are going to convert our buggies like you have and the other half are buying the SC8. This will give the guys some ideas . Think as soon as the Hot Bodies D8 arrives at my door step i'm converting it . Hopefully it's not too long before Proline etc start releasing specific CORR tires that handle better than the Traxxas tires. |
Yeah, im thinking about converting mine aswell but will run body mounts similar on how the SC8 mounts. Will probably also go with the SC8 body but since the SC8 isn't due till October, i doubt they will make the body before.

The Slash and the Slayer use the exact same body mold. However, they have different cutouts. The Slayer has holes punched in the windshield for air to the engine, and the body mount locations are different.
|
ffactory666: It's Slash body and sure, you can use them pictures for your needs.

I have the Hot Bodies D8 buggy backordered , should be released Sept 1st and it's being built straight into a CORR like yours . Have the Slash / E maxx bumpers on the way and found the new Proline Hardcorr body for the Slash. Thanks again fpr the ideas  For the other guys , i was going to wait for the SC8 body as well but i won't be able to handle getting the buggy in Sep and having to wait at least another month or longer for the SC8 body .The Hardcorr body for the slash looks great so i am going with that . The Slashs wheelbase is longer than the Slayer so the wheel archers wont match a buggy if you use the Slayer body . |
Mind posting a link to your forum thread?
Did my first cartwheels yesterday and ofcourse broke the rear bumper... :( Now I remember why I replaced bumpers from my (ex) E-Maxx straight when I bought it. Black RPM rear bumper for E-Maxx ordered. |

Great build / conversion.. you couldn’t have picked a better foundation for your project..
I missed the Video thou (?) I'll go back and look again.. I did something like this for my X-Ray Truggy, http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/i...7/IMG_3358.jpg http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/i...7/IMG_3359.jpg But yours looks much better!..:intello: Great job MAN..:yipi: |

TDC57: Thanks! Your truggy looks good too. I was actually wondering what mine might look like with the wing, but didn't dare to cut the body.
Now I'm tempted to do that... Link to video was with post #11 on previous page. Nothing spectacular, didn't want to break anything on the first run - did it on the second then... http://janezki.pp.fi/grfx/xrayxb8/ex...her011_640.jpg |
Use this emaxx RPM bumper , that's what i have ordered for the conversion

Here is a link to our local forum , it's in Australia and we are already discussing rules for this class . We even have die hard nitro guys going to run brushless in there conversions  Basically any power plant , nitro or brushless Must use a CORR body and has to cover the wheels , no exposed suspension or wheels allowed .( should make for exciting racing with some bumping and barging alowed without getting tangled in other cars wheels ) Must use corr style bumpers Must use corr style tires That's it for the rules , keeping it simple and should be heaps of fun . We have about 7 - 10 guys now getting into it . Crap , nearly forgot the link and you have to be a member to view the pics . http://rcmadhouse.com/MadForum/viewt...=2167&start=25 |
Sweet job on the Corr conversion. Your r/c bashing area in the video is awsome looking. Slash and Slayer bodys are a different molds!
|
Got few decent outside pictures today, so here you go:
(say Uuuh!!) :intello: Notice the black "underbody", which keeps most of trash away from the insides. http://janezki.pp.fi/grfx/xrayxb8/ex...her014_800.jpg http://janezki.pp.fi/grfx/xrayxb8/ex...her013_800.jpg http://janezki.pp.fi/grfx/xrayxb8/ex...her015_800.jpg |
Got the RPM rear bumper today, have to fix it in place.
There's a new video available too, check it from here. Sun reflecting from the sand really confused my frikkin (un)Handycam, but I hope you can see atleast something. |
