WHat to do with a .5?

Little project i started for fun..

So far I love how this body is fitting the .5

chassis and BL stuff to follow.

MetalMan 09.04.2008 02:26 AM

Interesting... Lightweight corr truck, relative to 1/8 buggy conversions out there. Will be watching this thread.

BL_RV0 09.04.2008 09:33 PM

What body?

MetalMan 09.04.2008 11:29 PM

Proline Hardcore.

Challenge.

It looks like a nice challenge. Now lets see how fast you can make it run? I used to watch the road racers a few years back, but have never worked on or driven one. I started in the monster truck side just a couple of years ago, and have done nothing but Maxx builds so far. Once I get all of our Maxx trucks up and running I hope to either try the XRAY 808, Baja 5b, XTM/MMT, or go for a road racer car for something a little different. So teach me something with this build so I can figure out what direction to go. Good luck itsme.

Thanks guys,

raising the bar!!

This is only mock up and that loop on the axle is not staying.

MetalMan 09.07.2008 07:38 PM

No you didn't... But because you did, you beat me to it.

LOLOL!! I was raising the bar for myself, doing it like a truggy would be easy. I am hoping i can make that tlt axle last behind a brushless motor.

MetalMan 09.08.2008 03:20 AM

Well, at least there will be some differences between ours. For example, mine uses an upgraded MT2 front end, MT2 chassis cut out at the front as a Slash-like skidplate/chassis brace, raised chassis like the Slash, beefed up Wheely King rear axle, etc. Your build will be interesting to watch, no doubt!

Is the center drive from a tower terror? Looks very similar if it is not...

I really like this idea, cant wait to see the finished results. The tlt axle should be fine, but you may want to invest in some straight axle adapters, and the one piece axles.

Adapters: http://rc4wdstore.com/product_info.p...roducts_id=563

One piece axles: http://rc4wdstore.com/product_info.p...roducts_id=567

And this looks like a great idea: http://rc4wdstore.com/product_info.p...roducts_id=600

Thanks linc, the CD is actually the .5's one turned on its side. Im going to run mikes motor mount vertical and hopefully run two 3s packs in parallel. I need to order some carbon and make some templates going so I can get this build done sooner..

Thinking about aslo brazing a cage together.

cembom 09.08.2008 12:07 PM

Great job, should look really nice! Glad you went with an actual axle in the rear.

its me 09.09.2008 02:00 AM

thanks man! just ordered some carbon so the rear portion should be done soon..

its me 09.14.2008 03:56 AM

After a shitty day like today working on this helped, that and playing with the hollow points..

wow

im really impressed with how this is turning out

MetalMan 09.17.2008 11:50 AM

It is coming together very nicely. I am interested in hearing how your 4 link setup works to compare it to mine, since my links will be about 2in. longer than yours.

Will do man, I am hoping this Frankenstein will be able to be raced LOL. I need to make some limiting straps, trim the chassis and figure out the lay out of everything. I also raised the front end assembly so I can get more down travel to compensate for the 4 links suspension travel.

What do you guys think? should I run twin lipo's and get creative with the mounting of electronics? Or should I just run one lipo?

brushlessboy16 09.19.2008 07:32 AM

wow thats truly a work of art..

with a longer can motor will the can hit the upper links on the rear suspension?

MetalMan 09.19.2008 01:01 PM

The RCM CRT.5 motor mount threw me off for a minute, it just looks so good in there! Not to mention the carbon fiber really gives the truck its own personality.

If I may ask, what did you use to shape the carbon fiber?

Sure man, I cut a piece of 3003 aluminum into a the shape I needed and drilled it for everything. Then all I did was cut the carbon out and sanded it to shape using the template of aluminum.

Probably but im also planning to limit the suspension, I already have to much articulation.

JERRY2KONE 09.20.2008 04:16 AM

Options...

That motor and center diff setup is quite creative. Nice work. Just shows you how easily things can be done when you put your mind to work. I would surely setup for two Lipos just for the sake of veritility. That way you can run either way. Keep up the good work itsme. I hope to start doing stuff like that once I get all of my Maxx rigs up and runing. That should keep the boys busy while I do other things.

Wow, that's actually one of the primary pictures I used to help with designing the rear 4-link on my Corr truck project!

I'm sure your cage will turn out great :great:.

Thanks man, I still didnt get a chance to start the cage yet, racing has been kind of expensive this last week.

I use a jig saw for the ruff cut then sanding drum to finish it. :)

It's sure coming along! Your integration of the dirt guards is extremely clean, nice work! You're gonna have to let us know how much it weighs (mine will be about 6lbs RTR).

Those Axial posts are great .

BL_RV0 11.28.2008 02:10 PM

Very nice!
