PiStix Adapters
The company that made these things is stopping production of them.
Anyone know where I can still get some or if there is an alternative? Offshore is out. They alow Airplane ESC to be used w/ pistol radios. |
Everywhere seems to be out. I just emailed the maker to see what they say. I also if they aren't going to make another batch, or new version, if we can get the schematic, part list, and code if it's a PIC.
|
They look very simple. I guess they'd easy to duplicate w/ parts .from the Shack.

I got a response from the maker (Andy). My questions are black, the response is red:
1) Why did you stop making the pistix adaptor? It comes in really handy for us car guys so we can use a pistol grip radio with HV ESCs. Read this thread, in particular my explanatory post. Perhaps you can convince somebody like Kershaw Design to team up with Offshore Electrics. http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...ead.php?t=4894 2) Are you going to make a new version? Perhaps, if there is demand. 3) If you do not plan on making another batch or another version, is there any way a schematic could be obtained so us DIYers can make our own? Or is it a PIC? If so, the code would be helpful too. It is a PIC10F20x. Nothing will be released until Dec at the earliest. Another company is considering making them. 4) If supplying the information from question 3 is not possible, can you provide an alternate device that does the same thing? There is no other product on the market that I know of. |
Nice bit of info...more than I knew yesterday and a little bit of hope on top of that. Thanks!!

Check out Kershaw Designs, the website says they're still in stock.

So, anyone want to take a stab at programming a PIC10F20x?
First, I would imagine one has to know what the pistix does. Someone with an oscilloscope can verify this, but I believe it translates the pistol grip radio's throttle pulse range of 1.5ms-2ms (neutral to WOT), to an air ESCs expected throttle input of the full 1ms to 2ms pulses. It probably ignores anything lower than 1.5ms, or just uses a floor of 1ms pulses. |
It doesnt look like you specifically asked him if he had any, I say this because 7-11-08 I sent him a direct paypal payment for 1 and he wrote me back that he was in Illinois now starting a new job and his stuff was in NJ and didnt have any with him. A week or so later he emailed me that he found a box of them with him in Illinois and could ship them out if I still wanted them, but I had already purchased from Impkatrc. Cant hurt to ask him Andy Kunz andy@montanadesign.com http://www.rc-hydros.com/order-online.html
|
Well, sheesh! I'd like to think he would've volunteered that info if he had some. Well, I don't need any right now, so I'll leave further inquiries to those who do.
|
lol I would think so too, but maybe hes a bit thick LOL
|
Yeah, some really smart people aren't too good with the whole common sense thing.

They were out when I posted...I looked everywhere first. Google, Ask, Yahoo, here, etc............. I e-mailed some of the places on eBay some of these plane controlers come from, its spelled H-o-n-g K-o-n-g, and they just keep sending beep schematics. I don't think they speeky-dee-english. |

I read you got one from Impaktcr? Search of their site ended in a spelling challenge. |

I actually don't have an o-scope. The one I used previously belonged to the bench tech dept of where I used to work (and they didn't even know how to use it!).
|
from what I have heard is the guy who was making them before is trying to work a deal with an unnamed outside company to start making them. he has said Dec. is the cutoff date and if it doesnt happen by then he just may release the info for anybody to take over...it seems to be more business cat and mouse BS...
|
This may be out there, but do any of the higher end car radios allow enough adjustment (epa and neutral, etc.) to accomplish this? I have an m11 and will try to get a hv85 to work on it without using a pistix. I have a few pistix hanging around, but am not sure if I want to sell them...
|
IIRC, the Spektrum was able to work without a pistix, but it was a PITA and still never worked perfectly.
|
Now I'm gonna have to try out my React and HV-110 without a PiStix. It should work fine, methinks.
