LST2 Brushless Conversion

Hi Guys!

I'm thinking about converting a Losi LST2 to Brushless, with the following setup:
- Losi LST2 1/8
- NEU 1521/1.5D 1900Kv
- Mamba Monster Max
- NeuEnergy 5S 5000mAh 30C Constant 60C Burst
- RC-Monster 2 Speed pinion adapter 5mm bore
- Acoms 2,4GHz
- Self-made motor mount

Will this work? Did I forget something?

Thanks!

I think that motor is too "hot" you should be looking at something sub 2000k for 5s... A 1521 1.5D 1900kv would be a better choice.

Byte 09.10.2008 02:16 PM

But I still want a bit speed, like 50 mph or something, do you think I will get 50 mph with the 1900kv and 5s?

lincpimp 09.10.2008 02:19 PM

I am running a 1500kv motor on 6s, and with 24/59 gearing it does 42mph. The 1900kv motor on 5s will spin faster, so 50mph should be attainable. Not sure if I would go much over 45mph with the stock tires though.

Ok, so I will get the 1900kv.

PS you forgot a battery tray - Mikes are very nice...

I was planning to get the next kv down from the 1900kv model for my lst to use on 6s lipo. I think it is around 1550kv. The 1521 neu looks to be the best bet for these heavier trucks, although I will say that the hacker c50 11xl is quite potent. I got a good deal on it used ($120), would never buy one new though, close to $400!!!!! Neu are the best bet for a high qual motor and their service is excellent! I may still buy the 1521 and use the hacker in my hyper st...

Or if castle bring out the 1518 size 1800kv motor soon I may give that a try...

Oops, idd, I will look..

Ok, he has a 45mm x 168mm battery tray, but that NEU battery is 45.5mm x 166mm. So he won't fit.. :whip: ( Maybe I'm stupid but L means Length, W means Width and T height? Or am I wrong? )

Byte 09.11.2008 11:00 AM

I'm still searching for a good battery tray..

The dimensions off the battery are:
T50 W45 L158
or, I can buy the other 5s from NEU that has these dimensions:
T44 W45.5 L166

Btw, will the 25C-50C 5s 4900mAh from NEU be also good enough for this setup?

bdebde 09.11.2008 01:03 PM

THESE will work for the first batt you listed.

I have found the 25c Neu batts to be very good (I use 4300 and 4900).

Ok, so I will get that Battery tray, and the NEU 5s 4900mAh 25C-50C  Now I have to search a LST

Byte 09.13.2008 04:06 AM

Another question, how long would be the runtime do you guys think? With the 4900mAh 5s?

Byte 09.16.2008 11:15 AM

Hmm just a question, bdebde said the Kyosho battery trays will be fine, but would the high of the LiPo not be a problem, it's 5 cm high?

http://e-savage.com/gallery/data/500...t_holder_1.jpg

And if I see this, the length is good, but the hight of the LiPo?

Byte 10.11.2008 05:00 PM

Finally, I bought a LST2 on eBay a few hours ago! :D

And I thought, and thought, and now I think the best setup for me would be:
- NEU 1521/1D 2900Kv
- NEU Energy 25C-50C 4900mAh 4s LiPo
- Mamba Monster Max
- RC-Monster 2 Speed pinion adapter 5mm bore
- Self made motor mount

So what about this?

lincpimp 10.11.2008 05:14 PM

Stick with 5 or 6s. I have found that my 4500 30c 6s lipos are close to maxed out with the hacker 11xl. I am not sure if the 1521 will draw less amps, really do not think it will. I would stick with the 4900 5s pack and a lower kv motor.

Ok, what about 2x3s? NEU Energy 4900mAh 3s 25-50C? And a NEU 1521 with 1900Kv?
That would be good I think?

Step down to the 1521 1y and you should be fine, just gear it for the speed you want. The motor has so much torque there is no need to rev it any higher.

BL_RV0 10.12.2008 12:34 PM

Sounds like a great conversion. If you don't have the dough for the 1521, check out the Mega 22/45/2 for 6s.

Ok, thank you for all your advises Lincpimp! Thanks for all the great help! Now I just need to get the money  ok, I have it, but I want to work for the money. So next month or something I will buy the motor. 1 month later the LiPo's, and finally the ESC.

All other guys also thank you for helping me!

Just a little list:
- Losi LST2
- NEU 1521 1Y
- NEU Energy 25-50C 2x3S 4900mAh
- Mamba Monster Max
- RC-Monster 2 Speed pinion adapter 5mm bore
- Self made motor mount
- Self made Battery tray

Again: Thank you for helping me!

EDIT: Another thing, I forgot the name for connecting those 2 LiPo's together. Something like: ...-Kabel
I want one with Deans, does somebody know one here on rc-monster?

Byte 10.29.2008 02:18 PM

Ok, finally, I got my LST! :D

But, I had a discussion with a friend of me.. He said that I will lose speed if I have a 2 speed gearbox, but he wasn't sure.. So, what do you guys think? And another question, I'm a noob at nitro, but could someone say me what the 2nd servo does? ( The one above on the picture )

http://i424.photobucket.com/albums/p...ct/Losi005.jpg

Thanks!

brushlessboy16 10.29.2008 07:36 PM

Pretty sure the second servo is either Hi/low range or reverse

Byte 10.31.2008 06:24 PM

Already got it, its idd reverse!

Ok, a new problem!

I saw a topic with a guy, that already killed 5 MMM's! I DON'T want that happen to me! So, I'm searching a good ESC. What do you guys recommend? The motor will be a NEU 1521 with 1900Kv, and 2 x 3's 4900mAh LiPo, so 22,2V!

I saw some MGM's, I thought this wouldn't be a bad ESC: http://mgm-compro.com/index.php?tid=...-boat-e-series
Or are the continious/peak amps to less?
And another question, do you think I could better buy a MGM or MMM? (Or maybe a other ESC)

Please tell me! I'm really confused! :S

Joram 11.01.2008 12:31 PM

Hoi Patrick ook hier aan het posten? Kom eens op msn, kunnen we elkaar helpen, zijn toch met bijna hetzelfde bezig.

We are dutch so just a joke:wink:

Well, there is now the MM V3, i'm gonna use that one because the MGM'S are tricky too. So i just decided too choose for the CC service IF there's something wrong with the ECS. (i was very positive about the MM so..)

Greetz,
Joram

Mozzy 11.02.2008 10:18 AM

That's definitely reverse & if you get hold of a "Forward only" conversion from Losi you'll be shedding weight from the truck. Mainly, that servo you asked about & alot of metal weight in your trans. I think it sheds about 300gm when you go forward only.:great:

I'm sending 6 MM's back tomorrow. 3 failed after they refused to update the new software to fix the problems CC techs found, go figure. The other 3 basically failed in my truggy, all just went offline permanently.
Now I have none.

Steering servo & receiver works though.
