E-Slayer Build
Well, I had to take the plunge.
Was so close to buying a Slash but was not impressed with the 2wd aspect of it. When I saw that the slayer was based off the Revo chassis...I just had to have it...there is no better suspension geometry out there... http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/CIMG3266.jpg http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/CIMG3267.jpg Under the hood is a beautiful thing...yes a 3.3 Nitro Motor on this thing... http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/CIMG3268.jpg http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/CIMG3269.jpg |
OK, enough of that non-sense...
Out with the old power... http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/CIMG3270.jpg http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/CIMG3271.jpg IN WITH THE NEW POWER!!!! http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/CIMG3315.jpg I would like to introduce you to....... E-SLAYER!!!!!!!! http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/CIMG3345.jpg |
Now for the build...
Doing some research on here it came down to two options with this conversion; 1 Build it from scratch like I did my savage or 2 find a conversion kit to help with some of the modifying. Going with number 1 on my Savage created a lot of headaches, wasted funds and foolish purchases. I opted for number 2. Now came the research time...I found out that the Slayer Chassis is the Revo Platinum Chassis so any of the Revo conversions should work. I opt'd for Tekno due to the known quality and the use of the clutch bell set up. Plus a cool t-shirt http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/CIMG3315.jpg This kit includes a 5mm flywheel/clutchbell adapter; adjustable motor mount; battery tray; radio box; ESC mount and detailed instructions. So to start you need to remove all the Nitro stuff from the the chassis which includes: Fuel Tank, Tubing and Mounting Post EZ Start and Wires Exhaust Pipe and Hanger Engine and Mount Left Radio Box Throttle Linkage and Return Spring Receiver, Switch, Receiver Battery Right Radio Box |
Looks great, and thanks for the info on the platinum chassis, i wanted one of those for my revo, (when ever i get one)
|
Now you need to remove the flywheel off the engine.
The kit comes with an adapter that puts the whole clutch assembly onto a 5mm shaft of a BL Motor... http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/CIMG3316.jpg You can then assemble the motor mount. This thing lays right in where the Nitro Engine mount set. It also gives you full adjustability for most popular BL Motors up to the length of and XL (what I am using) http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/CIMG3317.jpg http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/CIMG3331.jpg It also gives you full adjustability for perfect mesh setting http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/CIMG3332.jpg Once you have that set...you are home free Install the ESC Mount http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/CIMG3318.jpg http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/CIMG3319.jpg Install the battery Tray and straps http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/CIMG3330.jpg You are pretty much done with the conversion... |
Looks great did you stay with the 2 channel traxxas transmitter and split the signal for the brake/esc?I will receive my Slayer this week with conversion parts etc.

Now comes the electronics...
When you are running a nitro tranny you must use the mechanical brake and disable the ESC brake. Wiring is easy by using a "Y" Connector where the ESC and Brake Servo go in the two sides and you plug it into the Receiver Throttle Slot. So I had this small ESC laying around so I figured I would use it on this project... :o It is a little thing called a Mamba Monster Maxx (MMM)...check out these specs: http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/CIMG3336.jpg The only way to appreciate the size is to compare it. The first pic is the motor wire next to a servo wire. The second is a stock bullet plug and the one's that come with the MMM. These things are huge!!!! http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/CIMG3335.jpg http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/CIMG3338.jpg It comes with a built in fan that when it is spooling up sounds like a turbine... http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/CIMG3334.jpg So she is all ready to go...just waiting on a 5s LiPo to get this puppy going... |
Here is the combo that I am leaning to...Anything more than that will be uncontrollable with this rig... (Thanks BrianG)
The key to remember versus Nitro is that with BL it is instant speed... Differential Ratio: 2.8461538461538463 Transmission Ratio: 1.5294117647058822 Spur Tooth Count: 36 Pinion Tooth Count: 17 Total Voltage: 18.5 Motor KV: 1668 Tire Diameter (inches): 4.6 Tire Ballooning (inches): .5 Motor coil Ω: 0.0114 Spur/Pinion Ratio: 2.12 : 1 Total Ratio: 9.21799 : 1 Tire Circumference (inches): 17.59 inches (446.86 mm) Total Motor Speed: 30858 RPM Vehicle Speed: 55.77 mph (89.59 km/h) Estimated Adjusted Speed: 52 mph (83 km/h) - 8% loss Effective KV Value: 1668 KT constant: 0.81 oz-in/A Motor Torque: Amperage not specified... Looks good, trying to finish up my slayer conversion. Could you tell me what color springs it uses front and rear? Can't seem to find that info...
|
Well...bit the bullet and ordered the juice...
Thanks for the input Jason... http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/CIMG3393.jpg MaxAmps Lipo 5000HV 5S 18.5V Pack Check out these specs: # 5000mah Capacity # 18.5 Volts # 45mm X 138mm X 42mm # 20C Constant(100 amps) # 30C Sustained(150 amps) # 50C Burst(250 amps) # 565 grams # Battery Pack comes with Hyperion Taps # Highest performance in the industry # Twice the capacity of NiMH for the same weight # Plug and Play for any charger/balancer/vehicle # We add the connectors and balancing taps for you # Money Back Guarantee # Normally ships within 24-48 hours # Exceeds safety standards of the IATA # Factory Fresh Cells within 3 weeks # Can be recharged unlimited times per day # Copper Tab Cells for lower resistance |
OK..the kit does not allow for mounting the side bumper and I really want to keep it on. I notched the battery tray and Shoo Goo'd the side bumper to the battery tray. I hope that it holds.
http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/IMG00014.jpg Next thing was to cover that huge hole in the windshield to avoid material flying through. So I did what I used to with my Nitros. I used some mesh that is uses for repairing lexan and Shoo Goo'd it in place. To make it look better, I painted it red... http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/IMG00018.jpg http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/IMG00017.jpg Now I just need to get out and test it... http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/IMG00020.jpg |
I was able, with my daughter's help, give the E-Slayer a test run...
OMG...this thing is sick and I didn't even change the gearing... Didn't lock out first gear and may not...in the video, when you see the front come up... that was second gear... :gum: Also, realized at top speed the brakes needed adjusted... http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...erFirstRun.jpg Cannot wait to get on a dirt track... |

I think stock setup was silver up front and green in rear. I may be mistaken.

The pictures show red springs, bit i wonder if I can use the white springs with the same rates? |

Very nice, how is the V1 MMM holding up?
|
Not a problem at all...but really haven't pushed it yet
|
How’s it do in the corners? I’m having a terrible time with mine. It looks to be of similar speed as yours, but as soon as you touch the steering input at that kind of speed, over it goes. I have to slow down and scrub a significant amount of speed way before entering a corner just so I can steer around it without rolling over.

On asphalt, it is going to...with the smaller wheels and tires you don't get the forgiveness as you would with big revo wheels. also there is less contact. Sway bars may help plant the tires better. I haven't ran mine on dirt yet...I would think that it will slide before flipping based on what I have seen so far... |
Nice video. Who's looking out for cars? I'm running red springs white dot in front and red springs orange dot in back on 30wt, High speed turns still blows. My stock red springs were like two colors pink/white on front and something eles for the back.

Since the Slayer is built on the Revo platform, the CoG is a bit higher than ideal. The Revo even rolls unless you make it sit fairly low and/or use offset tires, and the Revo is quite a bit wider. I would lower it and use sway bars if cornering stability is your concern.

I am not sure of swaybars for the dirt though...I will have to test it. |

I wouldn't even think of running a Revo type suspension on any surface without some kind of sway bar. There is a ton of body roll regardless of it being a Slayer or Revo, dirt or pavement. The sway bar kit one of the biggest performance upgrades you can add to the truck. |
