Losi 8IGHT 2.0

Neobuggy.net have already snapped up pics of the new parts coming out for the 8IGHT 2.0. Still no news if it will be a conversion kit or whole new kit

Black chassis and black shock towers... mmmm  Thats going to be sweet!

MetalMan 09.15.2008 01:08 AM

Is it just me, or does that chassis not look like aluminum? Perhaps some composite?

DRIFT_BUGGY 09.15.2008 02:06 AM

Speculated viciously last week, here is some evidence of the 'new parts' which most Losi cars will feature at the Farm II from tomorrow. You can see below the new chassis, a couple of mm longer at the rear, and new shock towers. All the parts we saw are all made in effort to lighten the car, they include caster blocks, bulkhead, brake discs.

It's definitely aluminum in the middle.. but it looks like there's.... 3 distinct layers?! crazy!

its aluminum.... anyone pick up the counter sunk holes where the droop screw touches the chassis... pretty trick, a small hardened steel flat head screw goes there so you won't get holes on your chassis where the droop screw touches...

JeffEmbracedDC 09.15.2008 04:24 PM

Interesting!

Definitely a good idea.

man I LOVE the 8ight. I wouldn't trade mine for any other 1/8th buggy.

JeffEmbracedDC 09.16.2008 04:26 AM

Interesting though.. that's not the original BowTie design either. Must be a new tire? Here's the bow-tie I'm familiar with... On the new tire the center ribs are not spied and the outer knobs are.

Also, what's up with the antenna tube? Looks huge! Is that just the angle? It looks normal in the first photo... I wonder if it's the new Ultimate Racing antenna..

Also interesting is the choice of plastic chassis stiffeners. It seems the only notable upgrades (aside from the 2.0 kit) are the caster blocks and hinge pin braces.

Edit - Just noticed the photos were taken at different times. Notice the silver nuts on the shock mounting posts in the first few photos and then blue in the latter. The antenna looks different too. This must be Truhe's or Drake's. They recently announced they were testing some new products for Ultimate racing including antenna tubes and other hardware.

JeffEmbracedDC 09.16.2008 09:50 PM

There's a bunch of other changes too...

- The turnbuckles are lighter.
- All of the hardware is now black.
- The new fuel tank (still clunk style) is IFMAR and EFRA legal.
- New front caster blocks with additional adjustment holes.
- New rear hubs.
- New rear outer hingepins now 3-millimeters thick (original 8IGHT= 2.5mm)
- New brake discs.
- Machined slots in the chassis help align the engine mounts, so you know your engine is perfectly straight. This ensures proper gear mesh.
- Swaybars are now etched for quick identification.
- New servo tray places the throttle servo 7-millimeters further from the engine. This allows room for additional bracing to prevent the throttle servo from flexing under load.
- New body is smaller and the engine's cooling head is completely exposed for better cooling.

And the ones we already mentioned..

- It's even lighter!
- The chassis is longer.
- The chassis, shock towers and rest of the aluminum components are all now anodized black.
- The shock towers are 25% lighter.

So it's a new chassis, new shock towers, new turnbuckles, new caster blocks, new rear hubs, new sway bars, new disc brakes, new fuel tank, new outer rear hingepins which must mean new rear arms to fit the hingepins, new body, and a new servo tray. Either that's a heck of an expensive conversion kit, or that's a whole new buggy! Makes me wonder if there will be an 8ight-E 2.0 not after too long...

DRIFT_BUGGY 09.16.2008 11:07 PM

Yeah, im happy with my 8IGHT anyway. Don't really like the black. Won't stay black for long going around a offroad track

I pretty much feel the same. I don't like the look of the black stuff..

Though on the other hand... hmm.. I don't know. Might look cool all black with electric stuff in it :)

DRIFT_BUGGY 09.16.2008 11:50 PM

Don't think there will be a conversion kit though. They wanted $99 for the Flex Chassis. They would want alot for new towers, chassis, turnbuckles etc.

Yeah definitely. It's clearly a whole new car. I wonder what other goodies they'll add before it goes in to full production...

DRIFT_BUGGY 09.17.2008 12:00 AM

Probably be a while before it goes into production. They got alot of kits/goodies coming out in the next two months (8ight-e, brushless kits, l8ight, slider, 1/18 desert truck etc.)

Have to say it looks very nice for you Losi guys .

My hot bodies D8 is on it's way , but i do like the Mugen MBX6 and the Losi 2.0.

I can't remember were i read it but i do believe the 2.0 will be available as a roller after the worlds .

gixxer 09.18.2008 09:42 AM

I have no way to confirm a date but my lhs told me 10/10/08 for the version 2. I was asking him about getting the 8ight race roller and he recommended waiting till then for the new one.

It surely can't be out that soon. That is before other kits waiting to come out - High Roller - L8ight - 8ight-E - Desert Truck 1/18 and whatever is also on its way

Electric Dave 09.18.2008 09:02 PM

There is a mysterious ad in one of the RC Magazines from Losi about how something changed the "Worlds" and is coming on 9/25/08...If I were betting I'd say this is the announce day of the 8ight 2.0. Kind of a gamble, they are hoping it wins the worlds. Good thing Truhe is on fire.

DRIFT_BUGGY 09.19.2008 12:49 AM

Really wanted the 8ight 1.0 to win the Worlds but 8IGHT 2.0 will be alright

DRIFT_BUGGY 09.22.2008 05:33 PM

Now posted on Losi's website

http://www.losi.com/Content/Images/Home/Bdgworlds.gif

jnev 09.22.2008 06:10 PM

I bet they really wish they could have wrote that it won the worlds... not just TQ'D...

SpEEdyBL 09.25.2008 06:54 PM

The 8ight 2.0 is now up on Losi's website. It says the shock towers are lighter, but they don't say anything about the chassis being lighter.

jnev 09.25.2008 10:34 PM

Also on A-Main Hobbies now...

Okay so I was a little off on the release date but not really that bad. I saw told 10/10 and they have it listed as 11/1. Still very great since it was only a few weeks ago that we even saw good pictures of the v2.

DRIFT_BUGGY 10.01.2008 01:37 AM

Here is a little video explaining the changes

The Losi Brushless Kit will also work on this buggy

DRIFT_BUGGY 10.23.2008 11:26 PM
