Advice on 1st buggy - Found some rollers but unsure about $ etc
I am looking for a buggy roller to get. It will be my first buggy but so I'm a little inexperienced with the buggies. I was searching ebay and this fellow has serveral listed and they seem to be in my price range for the most part. I was hoping to get some input on what you think of the prices and the ones he has listed. I have an axial .28 I will put in it for a while (still have a 1 1/2 gallons left to use) and will later convert it to electric. Here's a link to what he has listed on ebay.
http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZrcpilot12 He doesn't provide much in the way of description but gives some decent pictures up close. He has a lot of stuff listed and feedback is good and seems to provide fast shipping. I have not seen his listings before but I've not searched for buggy stuff either. I like the 4wd style. I have a Kyosho inferno truggy so don't know if it would be best to go with a Kyosho inferno buggy for part interchanging or not. Once I convert to electric I will probably go with a mm - ubec - 4s - 2200KV motor. If you think that would do the job. Thanks again. For some reason I am leaning towards a Mugen. Don't know why. I'm not even sure how it is pronounced. http://cgi.ebay.com/Mugen-mbx5-mbx-5...QQcmdZViewItem |
Contact coolhandcountry on here . He has a very nice jammin x1cr buggy. He is also held in very high regard here . The jammin in your link is your better bet. but it looks like the chassis has a fair amount of wear on it .
EDIT i just saw the mugen link at the bottom . From the pics it looks good . but you want to see what the bottom of the chassis looks like before you buy it . That will tell you who much use the car has had . |
Get a Mugen. You won't be disappointed. :mdr:
|
Nice ride Gee...
My two cents.. get a X-Ray.. here are some of my XRay buggy builds, I also have the truggy and love it!.. Go Xray.. http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13341 http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12556 http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12322 |
my friend bought a mugen buggy from the guy on ebay well for 200 dollars later it was finally race wortht the chassis was shot and everything had so much slop in it.
|
I own a mbx-5, pictured in my sig. It is a bit heavier than some others, but nearly bomb proof. I don't think you will be disapointed w/any of the top buggies on the market today.
|
$375 will buy you the new Hot Bodies D8 buggy brand new , Ty from HB is currently qualified 2nd with one at the off road world championships running the stock buggy , and Travis is qualified 7th . Can't argue with the price and performance and the RCM lightning stadium motor mount will fit the D8 .
My D8 is on the way :yipi: For that price you would only get a used buggy from other manufacturers. |
Thanks for all the advice. The xray isn't in the budget right now. The vet says my dogs gonna need braces as soon as I get him to stop chasing parked cars. Seems when I ask for pictures of the bottom of the buggies on ebay the buggies isn't available at that time to take any. Huh? The D8 does look like a good buy. I'm thinking I might want to go with a new one vs a used buggy. A Main has the Lightning Pro 2 evo on sale for 249. Seems a pretty good buy. Anyone seen one in action?
http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...ducts_id/14351 |
save for the d8 its going to be one hot buggy for the money
|
For an extra $130 go the D8
|
i have 3 xb8s
one is a rolling chassis and i would sell it if your interested. also have enough spare parts to last a life time. thinking about getting another 808 and maybe selling both xb8's with the parts. one is RTR with a werks ceo mod p3 and a novarossi hot mods p5 futabas best servos. |
get the mbx5. i just got one and omg its a really durable buggy and its easy to drive.
|
Second or third the XB8..
Just get some 808 shocks on it and you will be very (very) happy!.. Guaranteed!.. http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12556 |
hey TDC57 do you know how long the front and rear shocks are on the 808
SORRY TO THREAD JACK lol |
give me minute I'll pull one of each off and shoot you back..
|
front
113.69mm rear: 123.13mm Both measurements are with the shock fully extended ready to be installed.. Hope that's helps (?).. Sorry Gee.... |
No problem TDC57.
I wanted to thank everyone for the advice and the offers also. I was looking into the xb8 to see what it was like. Not having any experience with any of the buggies it tooks some time to find out about the differernt makes and model. Sure a lot of them out there. I ended up buying a Losi Eight roller from a RCM member. It showed up at the right time and well I think everyone has heard of the Losi Eight so I didn't have much research to do. I visited one of the LHS over the weekend. None of them had any 1/8 buggies in stock except one Cen Matrix. But at one of the shops that has an indoor track a guy had the new D8 there. He seems to like it a lot. Got rid of his eight and got it. He said it's taking a little time to get use to it but really likes it. Looks like a nice buggy. And honestly that was the first time I've really actually looked at a buggy very close. I'm looking forward to the package showing up. Thanks again you all.... It's a Pacific Northwest thing "You all" |

Mike.L if your asking about the rcpilot seller on e-bay. I never bought from him but may try some of the parts he has listed. He responds to email pretty fast. All though the one request for a picture of the bottom of a buggy got a response that it was unavailable at the moment. The auction was close to being over so I never followed up on the picture. |

In your research, what did you find out about Kyosho buggies? There's one over here that I might go pick up tonight. He's asking 100 bucks (supposedly a 777 inferno). |
I didn't look into them very far before I found the one for sale here. I did look at the infernos due to having a kyosho truggy. Thought some part might be interchangable. I seemed more focused on the Mugens when I was searching. From the little I read most every that had the 777 were happy with it. Thought it was a good solid performer. Might have been just a bit older then all the new buggies that have been hitting the market lately. I don't thing you could go too wrong for 100 buck unless it's beat to hell. I'd jump on it for 100.
|
u can find some 5r's for really cheap now since the 6 has came out. last thursday at the track there was some guy selling 5 - 5r's for 150 each and they were really clean. all with custom chassis that were lightened.

Hate to release a video knowing the Battle Tank video could be out anytime now. There goes any chance for an Oscar. Oh well.
I talked my friend into running the camera for me. He did a real good job keeping it on the buggy as it zigged and zagged around. First time he said. Even kept filming after he backed into a rake I had laying against a garage. I put a picture in right before he gets hit so you can’t miss it. The video lost some quality after that. We might have pushed a wrong button on it. Neither of us knows too much about the camera. This may be one of the best chase scenes since Steve McQueen in Bullet. Some of the younger crowd may not recognize the name or movie so Nicholas Cage (Elenor) in Gone in 60 seconds. Here we have the Losi 8ight vs Lil John. My labs are crazy, especially Lil John. Check out the smiles on them when they run through holding the same stick. Crazy! The small one is his mom Amber. He’s a mommas boy that’s for sure. Anyway welcome to. Petey Memorial Raceway (RC ORV). Losi 8ight – MM - 1515 1y /s – 4s – 48/18 (I think) If anyone is on the fence about jumping into a 1/8th buggy. All I can say is. “Just do it!” These things are tough and a blast to run. I found myself saying the same thing that I said after I found Lipo. What took me so long? Hope you enjoy the low budget video. It’s fun just to watch the dog chase it around and stay long enough to see the camera get shaken by Mr. Rake Handle. http://picasaweb.google.com/guyjor67...50293775243330 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=weqnoYrlLaA Photobucket would let me upload the video. Gave me a copyright error. I opened accounts on picasaweb and youtube. Looks like you loose a lot of quality not matter which you use. |
Looks like a blast! Great place to run, too! Wish my dog was as gently with the RC's as yours. Heck, I wish we could let her off the leash....
|
Yeah pretty lucky with the dogs. They chase it but don't bite it. Amber has tried the sneak attack by jumping out of the brush at them. She has misjudge it a couple time and has ended up in a barrel roll after hitting them. She doesn't do it as often anymore. The track is out behind the house. I've been working on it here and there for the last couple of years. Just expanded to the section at the far right with the wood ramps. Thanks for the comments Jeff.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=weqnoYrlLaA Throwing in a couple pics of the ESC mount I made out of lexan. Got the idea from how Drift_buggy had his setup. This was the second one first one still didn't give me the clearence. Also, made a battery tray out of lexan. It holding up for now. Wasn't the greatest job. Need to have more patience when heating up lexan up. If it gets too hot to fast it will bubble up. Going to make one from clear lexan next time around. http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...f/DSCF6513.jpg http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...f/DSCF6512.jpg http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...f/DSCF6496.jpg |
:gasp: WOW.. that was way cool to watch.. :intello:
It handles great and is very sturdy in the air.. The Dogs cracked me UP!.. That was great. :yipi: Thank you for posting Gee... YOur such a GIVER!.. :na: P.S. Is that your back yard  if so you suck.. LOL.LOL :wink: |
Thanks Shaun. Part of it is my property. Some of it belongs to the City. I've been squatting on if for some time now. Cleaning it up. Wish I had some before pictures. It was a mess and full of brush and garbage from when they put the road in. I've run out of places to get dirt from. Some strange dirt too. If you pour water on it it beads up like an oil spill. If you spray it with a mist it okay though. Clay maybe. If I dig down any farther I run it to junk and rocks. I need to get some dirt delivered next spring to build up the jumps and add more to Monte Carlo ridge. The name seemed to fit becaue there is a Monte Carlo frame buried under there. It's just left of the two wood ramps. The tires still show a bit and you can feel them squish when you step on them. Had a few people that said they wanted it but never could get them to come and get the damn thing. So started buring it with yard waste and stuff.
Dogs are a blast. They give me hell until I take them and a rc out after work. Spoiled. I love the way the buggy handles. So different from my other rcs. Seems like it can turn on a dime. I'll have to try and shoot anothe video at night. Got the track surronded with halogens and street lights I've found at thrift stores. People drive by on the road above it and get blinded. Must look like a ball park with all the lights on. blah, blah, blah, just cant stop the fingers from typing tonight. R&R maybe. |
Cool video. and awesome bash spot. I'm very jealous. Wish I had something like that around here.
|
The Jammins are a great buggy. Personally tho, I love my Hyper 7 PBS for both bashing and racing.
|
That video was great! Best back yard ever, said with much jealousy...
|
Thanks for the GREAT thread Gee. Looks like you have been doing well so no need to ask. :mdr: I stumbled upon your thread when researching for my own buggy build. Looks like I will be getting an 8ight-b as well.
Good to know it can be so much fun. Especially coming from the MT background as we both did. Dont be surprised with a few pm's from me just like the ole MT days. Loved the video & story of "Monte Carlo Ridge". Very entertaining  |
Thanks guys. It was a lot of work with shovels and rakes to make it back there. I enjoyed almost every minute of it though. Was fun trying to find ways to expand it. Started out as a circle around a an old wood deck a friend dismantled and dropped the wood off. The Nikkos at the time couldn't even make it up a slope so I dragged all the dirt down the hill so they could make it up them. Neighbors must thought I was a nut. Out there a 1am in the morning watering and stamping the dirt on the jumps. Too damn hot in the summer days to work so I would fire up the staduim lights and stereo. Put in a semi hanging water sprinkle system. Gets a bit dusty out there and found I was spending ro much time ater work just spraying it down. The time wasn't totally wasted I did have a beer in the other hand. It's nice to that it is away from anyones home. No worries about waking them up when running the electrics.
I put some videos on rcbunker.com including the losi chase. It doesn't seem to loose the quality like you do when you upload to the others. http://www.rcbunker.com/Guyjor DickyT what's you trick to get the camera person to lay down for you. Couldn't get mine to trust me. Thought I was going to pull some trick like beer down the pant leg or something. Doug, what happended to the aviatar. Is that what JR looks like when you piss him off? I think you will really like the buggy. Finding the Losi 8ight parts are pretty plentiful on ebay also. Nice to have spare parts on hand. I suppose the other buggies parts could be also. Just don't look for them. Thought I blew a diff but it was a loose screw. Other then that it's been a good experience. Been using a 1515 1y in it and it's been great. Got a 1512 1.5 d on the way. Need the 1515 in the maxx. Didn't think I would do it but I let my Novak HV setup go. You got a thread going yet with your build? |

I've got a buddy locally that has the 8ight roller so I consider it a go. Here she is: http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...r/P1070802.jpg I have not started a thread yet. I'm at the tale end of the "build-part" with a new crawler so the 8ight will be the next build/project hittin' the rack. Hopefully it will be the one that get's me to the track. I have been considering going with the Losi Xcelorin BL system just to do things a little different. But it's still a little early for all that. |
Hey man, I was curious. Do you think your MM esc would run hot w/o the fan? Or was just precautionary? Oh yeah, one more thing.......
You ready to make that "clear" lexan esc tray yet? Then you can get rid of the one your are using now.... |
Nice back yard! hopefully this winter I can still turn my wooded are into a track for my crt.5 to run on. With my daughter into the trucks w/me, it should be fun!

That's great your daughters into it. It will make playing in the snow all the more fun. Last year was the first in a long time that I actually enjoyed going out in the snow. It was all becuase of the hobby too. Doug, It's been a while since my fan has worked on the buggy. I haven't really checked the temp in a while since we've been hanging right around 40 degrees. I've alway put a fan on what ever mm I had running just to have a little buffer zone for temps. I am sure it would be running pretty hot now. I have the buggy gear up to 20/47 right now. That looks like a nice clean roller. Glad to hear your getting one. I can bend you an esc tray like mine if you want. It may not come out perfect but the more I try the better I get at it. PM me with your address and I will send something your way next week. |
Doug, I made you a tray for your new buggy. One of the few creations I've tried that didn't turn out all bubbles. It's a little narrow. Didn't have much material to work with. It's made out of Lexan so it should hold up for you. It if doesn't let me know I should have more scraps from my friends shop by then to work with.
