Lehner owes me a Tire !!!!

Today I was testing my one E-maxx trying to work some bugs out of it. Really wasn't going that fast just running in the driveway. When the front tire just EXPLODED. It made a loud pop and the tire piece flow at least 20 feet in the air.
The combo was a 2240 running 9s kokams. This was the first time I tried these tires on this truck. Looks like they will not work:eek:

Thank you,
Promod

let me guess. those are responses? i almost did the same thing. the responses wont hold up to brushless. obviously.

Yeah, looks like it.;)

Hi Promod!

Nice truck you have there! Hella big motor. Some serious power and voltage. But the weak link shouldn't be the tires, though.:)

Were they wet or damaged?

DAF

Promod 11.06.2005 01:27 PM

No they weren't wet or damaged at all. They were used on another truck a little bit with no problems. But this was the first run on this truck.
I've never seen a tire just explode like this one did. Wish I had got a movie of it.

Thank you,
Promod

Just a thought: if you want one less thing to worry on your truck, replace the RX pack with an UBEC.

Promod 11.06.2005 01:50 PM

I've never had a problem with the receiver pack and its very easy to switch between all my trucks.

Thank you,
Promod

Dafni 11.06.2005 01:53 PM

One less thing to charge, then :)

Nevermind, was just an idea.

You should get a replacement tire and do it again lol.

coolhandcountry 11.06.2005 07:04 PM

I had the same problem with different tire. I have exploded 3 of them. The first was just like you described. I got mine on video but you can't see it. Oh well. What kind of run time you get promod? 2240 10 turn and with what batts

Here is link to my tire problems. http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/show...5&pagenumber=1

squeeforever 11.06.2005 07:11 PM

he said hes running 9s kokams. i would image 3200s though i have heard of people taking 2 and making a 6400

Promod 11.06.2005 09:23 PM

Yes they are Kokam 3200s. The motor used for the 9s cells is a 2240/12. Never checked the run time with that combo. But the 2240/10 on 6s 3200 kokams geared to run 55 mph have a run time of over 15 miniutes.
The power this truck makes is just CRAZY. I've ran some wild setups(single motor 32 cells, dual 1940 18 cells each) but this is a new world. The light weight of the kokams is what makes the difference. This truck is almost 3 pounds lighter than it was with 28 cells(70 mph setup).
The guys that know me will be shocked by this statement. But it is almost to much power now that the truck is so light :D .

Thank you,
Promod

Its good to see you around.

Bad luck on that tire though. Sounds like Traxxas didnt have high powered brushless motors in mind while creating those light-weight race tires.

coolhandcountry 11.06.2005 10:03 PM

I think that traxxas tries to make the tires to light. The rubber is to thin. I blew the sport traxx version. It is nice to see you around the promod. Thanks for your input.

What setup for the 70 mph run. I have enough cells for a 70 mph run. I like to see 70 mph gmaxx.

dabid 11.07.2005 01:53 AM

I think I see another speed record by Promod for some reason........

That motor looks as fat as the DeWalt 820 I tried to use in my Twin Force, probably a bit lighter and better though. ;)

Serum 11.07.2005 02:16 AM

My guess is that a little bit of duct tape could prevent this tires from blowing..

Nice experiment Promod... (like usual..)

JOHNNYMAXXIMA 11.08.2005 03:35 AM

Nice truck Promod. Have you weighed that thing RTR?
Thanks.

That works great. I duct taped the inside of the crimefighter MT's before I mounted them up and it works awsome. No more Pizza cutters when you rev it to the moon. I can hold my truck up in the air now and rev it till it grabs second gear and all the tires do is shake a little, the outside diamater never changes!

Promod 11.08.2005 08:32 AM

The truck with the 9s kokams RTR is less than 10 pounds. I will have to give the tape thing a try.

Thank you,
Promod

Serum 11.08.2005 01:34 PM

It does work Promod..
Look;

without tape and with tape..

giftacrylic 02.27.2006 09:15 AM

Where can I find the battery holders like on Promods truck?

coolhandcountry 02.27.2006 09:22 AM

They look like ae cups. I think mike has some around here. Drop him an email or check the store.

Dafni 02.27.2006 09:24 AM

I heard the AE cups got discontinued. Maybe Mike still has a couple!?
If you use 7 or less cells, the Kyosho TwinForce trays are a nice alternative. Mike has them, too.

MetalMan 02.27.2006 09:27 AM

I don't know about discontinued, but maybe delayed:

Thanks for the help. I found them at a local hobby shop.
