Here is a picture of the spur gear adapter plate that was made by Mike. http://rpm-photography.com/HIPPIEBUGGY/HIPPIEBUGGY9.jpg |
thats the nicest one i have seen yet. it think its because of the purple:Love:. hippie, didnt you get that for letting some guy drive your devo?
I like the purple aluminum diff holder. Did that come on the buggy or you pick that up extra? If extra where? That is a clean looking buggy. Make me want to finish mine up.
Nice looking buggy, Mike! Looks like it should work quite well! I particularly like the diff adapter. ;)
Thank's guys:D . That is a mugen MBX4, mike made the custom adapter plate to hold the ofna 51t plastic spur on the mugen diff. Yes squee that is the buggy i got for letting someone drive my DVO:L: . COOLHAND that is the stock diff holder . The radio box is a rpm box for the rc10gt, i cut it down a 1/2 inch for a better fit. With 14 cells it weighs as much as a nitro buggy.
I would persoally like to thank the following people for there help. JACK MILES for the pics MONSTER MIKE for the diff plate, & help DAFNI for advice on motor & gearing SERUM for advice on motor & gearing. |
Looks great! How does it hold up against the nitro buggies?
On 12 cells it holds it's own :L: . On 14 cells it should be INSANE :D .
what motor are you running? 9l?
Today it had a 9L in it. My 7XL will be here tommorow, so gearing will not be a problem any more.
hey hippie. Let me know what it does with the 7xl in it. I thought about the same. I just have to finish up to run.
Wow, very slick conversion, but the buggy as a whole looks great too! Makes me wish I had mine going, and also think about getting a 7xl to take the 2800xl's place, sooooo tempting.......:D
That's one GREAT conversion Hippie!
Mike, could you get me one of those adaptors as well? That diff has got the size of a HB lightning right? All the colors etc. combine perfectly. Top-Notch |
Thank's guys serum mike made the adapter plate, it's great.
I almost forgot thanks to STARSCREAM for the motor mount idea. |
Nice buggy, Hippie!! Good job.
Mine looks similar, just black instead of purple. You made me wanna make a thread about mine. And Jack also did an awesome job on those pics, btw. |
Thanks daf, the guy who took the picks is only 16 he is a fantastic photographer.
Awesome buggy, I really like the purple! Nice, clean layout too! It should scream with a 7xl on 14 cells, if that's what you were planning to do ;)
Hi,
Wow, this is very good ! Keep it coming. Regards, Joe Ling |
Nice buggy hippie
Wow nice buggy, its very purply
I think Mike may be on to something with that diff adapter  Very nice conversion, good job. Oh yes, I really like the motor mount, looks bulletproof. |
Yeah starscream.. I got some kind of idea what it is...
Here's a update, i poped the endbell off my 9L sunday. So i bought a 7XL from mike. I just did my first test run with the 7XL. I ran it up and down the street, gearing was 51t spur & 12t pinion & 12 cells. I must say i think im really going to like the new motor.
The acceleration was great temps were great. I also reprogramed my speedo after taking it out of my racebomb & putting it in my buggy. I noticed my brakes got better. |
So the 7xl runs great on just 12 cells? My Ofna 9.5's Lehner 2800xl runs pretty darn hot in my buggy, but was worried that the 7xl would be too slow on 12 cells.......what kind of top speed did you get?
Top speed obviously depends on gearing, and the 7XL can take a much higher gearing than a small fast-spinning motor.
Dabid, I thought your Lehner stays cool?! |
Um, quite the opposite, last time out it hit 160.
Hmm, not that bad after a full run! Only to be expected.
Well in the save range, no worries there. |
Dabid i'm not sure what the motor temp was i did'nt have my temp gun handy ,but after 10 min of running up and down the street. I was able to leave my hand on the motor for a long time if that helps.
Yeah, that means that it isn't much hotter than 125

That is a really nice looking buggy! I like you diff adapter too. I wish those were readily available. I just made an adapter out of my steel spur on my Hyper 7. It's kind of a hack job compared to what you've got.
btw it is very, very, very hard to drill through a spur gear. I found an easier way to dill afterwards (by heating up till it's glowing red and letting cool slowly). The 51t plastic gear fits the stock hyper 7 housing almost perfectly.
Yeah, drilling on hardened steel sucks big time, when i had to mount the batteries on my Ofna, the hard anodized alum. chassis was almost as bad..........or maybe my drill bits just suck.

Yes, I went through about 4 new carbide bits on 4 holes, it was quite an experience. :C:
I guess I should list these adapters for sale! Send me some e-mail of you are interested in one.
Guys if you order one of these adapters from MIKE you will not be disapointed i promise:D .

Your solution looks pretty good thou. I would grind the teeth down to be safe. |
I finally got to run my 7XL on 14 cells. I'm very very impressed with it. The motor performs much better on 14 cells.
Good to hear you happy with it. What kind of speed you getting with it? I am planning on running a 7xl on my buggy as well.
It's hard to say without a radar gun, but i'm sure it will hang with most nitro buggy's :L: . I would say 30 plus mph if i was guessing.
9xl
How fast were you going with the 9xl on 12 or 14 cells
14/51... Nice conversion man... |
