Details on buggy here

Artur

coolhandcountry 11.07.2005 08:31 PM

Hey will this work on a ofna mbx

GriffinRU 11.07.2005 08:42 PM

I don't know.

If you tell me dimensions, then I can check.

Artur

coolhandcountry 11.07.2005 08:46 PM

well accually don't worry about it. I don't want to mount my motor to the side. Get in way of my batteries. I like to have a top mount though. It would look good on buggy and truck. What kind of measurement do you need

Dafni 11.08.2005 03:20 AM

Nice product! And nice timing, too!!
This thing will put my motor closer to the spur.

One of those things has my name on it! Yay! Can't wait to get it!

camel_rc 11.10.2005 08:52 PM

Will it work in a MBX4?

Papa 11.10.2005 09:06 PM

Can some one explain to me the brake situation with these buggys that have a center dIff. I do not understand. besides the MOtor mount etc... what do you need to do to the gear/diff?

coolhandcountry 11.10.2005 09:41 PM

I not quite sure on the question papa. You need to get the metal gear off and a plastic one on. As far as brakes. Just use the motor.

Papa 11.10.2005 09:44 PM

Maybe I am crazy! I was under the impression that the mechanical brake was still needed. It came to mind when I saw the pic above with the brakes in it? I switching out the gear a challenge?

coolhandcountry 11.10.2005 10:03 PM

not on the ofna buggies where the ofna 51 tooth is a direct bolt. Others are a little more. Like making the adapter. I have not ran my buggy yet papa. I not sure what to expect as far as brakes. The center diff has oil in it so may have to get that right for braking to.

Papa 11.10.2005 10:05 PM

Sounds Like My CRT Conversion should work out. Now if I could just find a quality motor mount?

GriffinRU 11.10.2005 10:22 PM

I do not know about MBX4, but if you can compare diff. housing from MBX5 then you will get an answer.

As for brakes, with center diff, you need to use original disk brakes or combo. In my case, due to the fact that motor is too close to the diff, I am utilizing front disk barke and rear electric motor brake. Just electric wont do the job, unless you make your center diff. very tight.

Artur

P.S. I make this pinion from original mugen pinion

Thank you, we will see how it works.

That is how it looks with Shultze 18.97 / Feigao 9L / 12 I3800

Artur

P.S. Only 5 adapters left...

MetalMan 11.11.2005 10:45 PM

That's an interesting way to mount the batteries. How's the COG of it? The motor looks pretty low, which is good. Which motor is that?

Well, I was playing around a lot and didn't find better way.
Also I was trying to keep everything on metal and as close to the center as possible. And be able to remove them quickly and be able to use cell equalizer as well.
So overall rear end is pretty balanced, front has 0.2lbs offset to the left. Total weight 8.2lbs. As for COG, I think it is not as good as with motor, but should be Ok, due to the fact that batteries mounted closer to the center.

Motor Feigao 9L (Optional 7L/8L/7XL)

Artur

P.S. My friend is going to have the same setup with LiPo. I will try to publish picture here later.

GriffinRU 11.14.2005 09:43 PM

Another MBX5 conversion...

Artur

Sneeck 11.21.2005 03:04 PM

Very nice set-up.

Thunderbruiser 12.05.2005 04:59 AM

yeah that one has a very clean setup

GriffinRU 12.27.2006 11:47 AM

With Plettenberg and MGM
-13t pinion 46Spur and 4LiPo
-13t pinion was too hot for the ESC
-12t was good for short tracks, but not enough traction

Run-time 8-10min

Sensored 6XL and Novak (servos side)
- 14t pinion 46Spur and 4LiPo works great

Buggy weight 3.420g without body
Run-time 10-15min

Artur

Serum 12.27.2006 12:30 PM

I am interested in your sensored 6XL and the upgrading (in terms of power) of the novak speedo.

What made it possible to use the 46T spur? i see you are using an aluminum diffcup with that spur. What upgrades did you need to make it work?

Thanks for the input Artur.

coolhandcountry 12.27.2006 04:55 PM

Did you like the novak 6xl setup more than other?

I am not ready yet to offer sensored setups, but if you need one shoot me e-mail.

It is torsen differential from Carolina R/C
It requires only custom hardened pinion gears.

Yes and no, it was a little bit on heavy side. I think sensored 9-10L with 4LiPo would be great.

Artur

BrianG 12.27.2006 06:54 PM

Why would you want a Torsen diff in the center? I can see in the front and rear axles to prevent tire unloading, but the center diff helps tame wheelies. Since the Torsen sends power to the loaded wheels, it wouldn't stop wheelies at all.

coolhandcountry 12.27.2006 07:05 PM

Accually brian. by looking at the pic. It works off of friction.
If the diff has no pressure on one side it will accually unload.
So it won't wheelie or shouldn't. If you have a diff like that in a full size.
You have to ride the brake a little if one tire gets off ground to get the locked
feel and go. Different angle of the teeth on gears make it lock on more or less pressure.

I had 2 torsens Front and Center. But after front one ring gear broke I am back to all 3 open. Plettenberg picture was taken with 2 torsen diffs installed.

When it was working it was great on sand dunes, but hard on ESC.

Yes, torsens only transfer torque with the ratio preset inside differential, but if there is no torque (resistance) on spinning side then there will be no torque on opposite side either (0*X=0).

That is why true lockers (like ARB in Full size world) are preffered for rock crawling and serious mud :)

Artur

coolhandcountry 12.27.2006 07:38 PM

I liked the detriot locker. I ran that in rear with a true trac front. It was
designed like the torsen. It worked great together.

BrianG 12.27.2006 08:46 PM

Thanks for setting me straight CHC and Griffin. I was under the impression it sent all power to the loaded side, but apparently it is "some", bit not all torque...

JEFFRO503 01.01.2007 06:13 PM

hey griffin............this is my first post here as i just registerd today. I was wondering on your custom mounts you have , if you have any left for sale , and if you might be possibly making any more?

I actually have a mount that looks EXACTLY like yours , and i could have bought this from you around a year ago off ebay , if that was you selling them?

I never did finish (or even start) the project on my MBX yet. but looking at the photo's you have of your buggy has totally got me going again on wanting to do the conversion.

I am going to convert an MBX-4 XR works buggy , instead of the MBX 5. The center diff mounts are exactly the same as far as bolt holes on the chassis. I had also been thinking of maybe coverting one of my Kyosho kanai's over to an electric also , and was wondering if there was anyway possible of getting a hold of a couple of your mounts , without the two bottom and two top mounting holes drilled in , so i could do them myself and make a mount for the Kyosho as well? Crap , as far as that goes , that mount i beleive would work on any 1/8th scale buggy if the holes we're left un-drilled and left to be done by the owner...............wouldn't it?.

anyways...........glad to be a memeber here , and your MBX looks friggin awesome!!

Hi Jeff,
Welcome to RC-Monster!

As for adapter if it was from ValleyLee - then yes.
I am working on new batch, and will post update later this week.

Looks like Feigao 9L and yes it is a very interesting way of mounting the batts. I don't like it so much for myself but it's cool when people go outside the box.

JEFFRO503 01.04.2007 12:11 AM

hey griffin........just had a quick question for you. Have you had any thoughts on possibly making one of these braces that would fit a larger type motor like a Lehner 1940? Or possibly making any that might fit a Kyosho mp 7.5 / 777 ? I would be willing to buy a couple from you for sure , as i'm trying to get a Mugen MBX and a kyosho going at the same time , and i really dig your braces. Thanks man!
