MMM owners....something weird happened

I was running my MMM today on 4s (TRC 8000's) in my E-Revo. Just going up and down the street.

Out of nowhere it put the breaks on for half a second.
It jerked like it hit a wall. Looked like the front end squated down and bottomed out.
when it happened....I was rolling forward and had started to pull the throttle.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Almost seemed like a radio glitch.
Trying to think of any other info that may be important.....
um...I'm using a Ubec. Didnt do any warranty voiding mods to the MMM. Just some Case mods.

I'm stumped.

I tried, but I cant get it to happen again.

Maybe some 2.4G frequency glitch?

JaySki 09.24.2008 10:02 AM

That is usually the beginning of the end.

Dagger Thrasher 09.24.2008 10:22 AM

To me, that sounds like a radio glitch of some sort (though I guess the ESC can't be ruled out). Are you on Spektrum? They're not impervious to problems unfortunately (being on DSSS), and this sort of thing's happened before. Did the ESC run fine after that?

bl-is-future 09.24.2008 10:29 AM

go to the same exact spot and run again and see if it does it. If it does then go to a completely different spot and check there. If it only does it in one spot it is the radio. If not it is most likely the beginning of the end.

A guy at the track had an issue where his stopped on the back straight away for 30 secs or more and then started working again.. His looked to be a radio glitch he raced the next couple of times without a problem..

hoovhartid 09.24.2008 01:36 PM

Yup, its a Spektrum DX3.0

The ESC seemed to run fine afterwards, I tried but couldnt get it to do it again.

No problems running in the same spot...its in front of my house. lol

Do 2.4ghz cordless house phones mess with a spektrum signal? I'm pretty sure my neighbor has one. maybe she got a call? who knows...time will tell I guess...

beginning of the end? this has happened to someone else then?

JaySki 09.24.2008 02:01 PM

Mine would stop.. and stutter for a second.. Then run a bit.. then it gets worse... and then dies. Might be a radio glitch.. just sounds a lot like how mine died.

That would be me  Since then I have had one other time practicing where I just seemed to loose throttle or brakes and the car just coasted. After the first time at the track I wrapped the RX in tin foil thinking it might be the Spektrum. Still don't know for sure what the problem was. I had steering on the second time and I was only about 15 feet from the vehicle. After about 15 seconds it ran just fine. No temp issues either.

As good as 2.4 is they are still not impervious to glitching. I wouldn't raise great concern unless it happens more.

My B'in Laws stock Emaxx does this when we run with a buddy's rig, which is running a JR radio system. Dont know why or how, but that JR radio is periodically interferring with his stock radio system.

Could be a solder connection on the motor side...maybe? Like if something came loose then that third pole wouldnt be energized and it would kinda be trying to keep the rotor locked in one position. then if the joint was bumped back into place it would function normally again...

not likely, but worth checking i think

tc3_racer_001 09.24.2008 07:54 PM

from what ive read the spektrum dx2/3/.0 systems are the most glitchy of the lot. futaba seems pretty glitch free, but im looking at upgrading to a react - 2000ft range and usb connection - YES PLEASE! (and its pretty cheap too... )

Yes or it's shorting out with the heat sink. Mine seems to have all the three phase plugs contacting the heat sink.

auto2 09.24.2008 09:39 PM

is your fail safe on the radio set to neutral? maybe it got set to reverse? you set it when you bind the reciever to the radio.

mmazurek 09.24.2008 09:42 PM

Have you opened a beer with it?

hoovhartid 09.24.2008 10:01 PM

Checked the solder connections...all seem fine
I have shrinkwrap around the Bullets on the MMM blocking the heatsink ground issue
failsafe is neutral
and it wont be used to open a beer unless it burns out and takes my servos out like the last one

think it may have been the spektrum...but time will tell

e-mike 09.24.2008 10:57 PM

this thing happend to me....the truck seem to brake suddenly,,, its very tuff on the spur gear:lol:

curiously this issue come only with my mmmv1 and v2 and everything good with the mm....??!!

plettenbergs 09.24.2008 10:59 PM

you are flipping a subliminal BIRD!..i see that!

 I didn't notice it before :P

hoovhartid 09.25.2008 02:54 AM

I looked up and down this thread because I couldnt find what you were talking about...

...duh...I get it now...

I didnt even notice that...maybe it was my subconscious, passive-agressive way of dealing with my loss...lol

MTBikerTim 09.25.2008 03:09 AM

I had same thing happen to me. Nothing to do with the MMM or the radio. When crap goes onto the gears in the tranny the car comes to a grinding halt. It turned out an e-clip in the tranny broke for some strange reason and when it went into the gears the car stopped.

hoovhartid 09.25.2008 05:31 AM

this only happened for half a second. everything is running fine now.
I havent been able to get it to happen again.

Arct1k 09.25.2008 05:35 AM

Sounds like a RX glitch and the ESC popped into fail safe - It it happens a few times it might pay to look at a capacitor for the rx.

Arct1k 09.25.2008 05:47 AM

It could also have been 2.4ghz interference - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2.4ghz_Interference

It still does happen... If you were in the street it could have been a wireless phone, network or a microwave in the area...

i hadd one of these capacitor and nothing desapear my problem was still there:yes:

Arct1k 09.25.2008 06:19 AM

The capacitor only helps if the issue is due to voltage dipping - If it is interference then it won't do anything. Only eliminating the source, rx/antenna placement or upping the gain on the TX would help.

Sammus 09.25.2008 06:52 AM

I had glitching from voltage drops (could see the Rx reset), and added a 1000uf low esr cap to no avail. IT was really strange, with the CCBEC hooked up, the lowest voltage drop I would record stabbing the throttle with an unloaded motor was 13.2 down to 8V - still enormous but still higher than what the ccbec was set at.

Removed the ccbec and no more substantial voltage drops or rx cutouts *shrugs*

RBMike 09.25.2008 10:49 AM

I had a CCBEC used with my MM. I had all kinds of trouble with my Specktrums glitching & loosing their bind with the TX. I switched to a Novak hvbec & no more trouble.
