Anyone use a lipo after a swelling incident and still alive to talk about it?
 

Curious if it came out okay. I've been able to revive some that were below the LVC but have not tried a lipo after it came down with the mumps.

I had a TrueRC 4s 8000mah pack that puffed on me. I waited a couple days for the swelling to go down, and afterward it worked fine. I sold the pack, so not sure how its still doing, but for the first run after it puffed it did fine with as much power as it did before. :yes:

Yes.. My 5s swelled up big time!.. I actually buried it just because I thought it was going to blow.. After a week of it sitting, I stuck it my lipo charging bag and charged it up a 1amp, works great ever since..

Scared the pop out of me!..

You might want to recharge it in the Lipo bag, so if it blow's you don’t lose your house.

LOL man did you really bury it. At most you'd get some 3rd degree burns from a flame out. Lipo sack says it will protect us from that, like throwing a flaming muffin out of the oven.

Hell YES I DID..:yes: it Scared the pop out of me :whip: it went 18" in the ground in the back yard in the lipos sack!.. :oops:

Thanks for the replies. It swelled up over a week ago and it has been in solitary confinement since. In a ammo can, didn't have a shovel handy with me :whistle:. I checked the voltage it is isn't below. I'll give it a go and mark it. Anyone want to buy a lipo? You don't have to have it shipped directly to your house? I could ship it somewhere more "convienent" for you.

I had a trash amps 5000 3s that would puff on every run, and after a few hours it would almost be back to normal. I used it this way for a month (roughly 100 cycles, I drive a lot so what :lol:) and it finally died a week ago. After that I got 2 True RC 2s 8000's and they have WAY more punch and almost the same top speed! (around 50mph)

i have a craps-amps 4s 5000mah pack as well that puffed on me pretty big but i at teh end of the day the swelling went down and i charged/balanced it and it has worked fine since...about 30 more cycles in an 8ight

Yep, I bought the pack on the cheap knowing that it had been puffed. Half of the cells were still good, so now I have a 2s 8k pack that works fine and for a great price.

i had a MM short my batteries out and it puffeed a little...i think. but after a few days in the ammo box, its back and the only thing that "seems" different is shorter run time:tongue:

I actually puffed a FlightPower Evo30 4500mah 2S 30C Lipo. I set it aside for about 10 days and then I stuck it on a charger and at .25 amps brought it (slowly) back up to about 3.1v. I let it sit for another week to let it stabilize and make sure it took it ok and then charged it at 1 amp all the way up to 3.7v nominal.

Left it like that for about 3 weeks and then topped it off and ran it. Seemed to run fine and didn't get any warmer than the 3S equivilant of the pack that it ran in series with (which has only 2 runs on it so its virtually brand new).

After that I charged it up as normal at a full 4.5A (1C) and it took it just fine.

I puffed a Venom 5400mAh 3s in a wicked crash with the under carriage of a Jeep. I used the pack another 3 months until I intentionally shorted it. I got no flames, was very disappointed.

I wanted to get the flames you see on YouTube. But all it did was hiss and melt the solder on the terminal.

My maxamps 3s 5000s puff everytime I use them. In all fairness I used them in a vtwin for 6-7 months trying to see how fast it would go. I let them take a nap for about 8-24 hours and cool down they get back to about 95% of normal shape and charge them up again and repuff them, work fine. I roll them in a rustler and 'pede and speed-T though, no more MT action. I think if my enerlands or neus puffed id be freaked to try it again.

Well instead of waiting for the ones that didn't survive to reply to this thread. Reading the acts of bravery and not so brave acts. I decided to followed the lead of the many brave and foolish that have thrown the love for life in to the wind......

I too chose to play in the freeway at rush hour and attempt to recharge the lipo now know as Ball Park Frank. Although burying the problem may not have been the bravest act, it did show probably the wisest choice in protecting life and limb. I broke out the old broken down FlavMaster 5000 gas grill. Put on the fire suite I had left over from stunt man school (some people just can't tuck and roll, that's all there is too it.). By setting the lipo on the rusted grill, I was offering the fire gods a sacrafice. In hopes that yes, someday it may actually save my life. Time will only tell. Dripping with sweat from the unbreathable, tight, and extremly itchy black fire suit. I made a mental note to wear underware next time I don this suit. The intense heat of the sun beating down on me didn't help matters. I pulled over and over on the pull chord trying to start the vibrator. I put out my cigarette and handed the lady back her boyfriend. Feeling less of a man now I turned the key and pushed the start button on my generator. Gave her that "You that you should of bought a Honda look." Couldn't hear what she said but don't matter I had a task to finish. I shrugged her off like a towl that's to small. High noon and hot as hell out. The sweat burned my eyes as if I just looked straight into a forbidden hole of a nitro rc pipe. I welcomed the pain as it remined me I needed to get toilet paper next time at the store. I can handle it told myself. Be a man and stop yelling. When my vision returned I continued grappling with the jumper cables trying to untangled them and get this fire stand moving forward. God I had to piss bad. No time now though. For the love of God they finally realease their grips on each other. Those clamps can leave a serious bruise on a person and should never repeat never be used on a persons nipples. Hooking the charger up deemed a more difficult task then I first thought. Can't stop now, I already mailed out the letters incase I loose this epic battle. Knowing I was sending the charger on a suicideneil misson I pushed the RED button as if I was the president of the US and didn't really give damn. I made my way through what seemed to be miles of dark hallways to the observation room where I had my stale chips, three packs of smokes, empty Folgers coffee can, and (now) a warm six pack waiting. There filling the screen was the FlavMaster 5000 and charger ticking away. Through the smoke stained glass in the 5000's lid. Ball park was getting the currents of life pumped back into it. Safe now behind the walls of my bunker, I nestled in for the explosion that was going to rock my world. I stared at the screen as if the killer on General Hospital was about to exposed. As the clock ticked by the charger was slowly but surely pumping the energy into this global killer. It wouldn't be long now I kept thinking. Any time now... When I woke up the battery was done charging. I balanced it but haven't used it. Thanks for the help guys.

Yeah, a little bit of a warped sense of humor at times. Your lucky you don't have to take care of him. They expect a full recovery but it sure has been a long road since the accident. Sometime I just want to lock the basement and run as far away as I can. Let someone else deal with it. Responsibility is not easy.

Sorry to dig up such an old thread, but....

I let my Turnigy packs sit for a few weeks and they had about 3/4 charge, went to charge them back up and one of the packs had a puffed cell and was at 2.14 volts. I brought it back up to 3 volts and then let it sit for a couple hours and the cell went back to normal. Now the problem is charging it without overcharging the other two cells in the pack (its a 3S), since those two cells are now pretty much up to a full charge even though I was balance charging to bring that cell back up to a normal voltage. How the hell to I get this one cell up to 4.2 volts or at least to 4 volts so that it will actually balance charge it (It currently thinks that the pack is almost charged so it does the amperage ramping, but it pretty much stays at 0 amps for about a minute, does absolutely nothing and then says the pack is full).

Is there some kind of way to charge just 1 cell? If I could everything would be fine and dandy.

Nah man, I don't think these R/C packs makes much flames anymore, I have seen some Lithium testing vids and the lipos got stabbed and burnt... nothin. I think over-charging is really what makes them active, that is, if they do decide to be a fire starter.

Yes, charge the cell at low current (say 1 amp max) through the balance plug. I've done it - it works fine.

What charger do you have? I could swear that if I put mine (a Duo) on Balance (not balance charge), it doesn't actually charge any of the cells, it pulls the high cells down to match the low cells. Its just been an observation from watching the levels....might try that to bring those other two cells down, then do a balance charge.

I have a Turnigy Accucell-6 and I also have an old OFNA DigiPeak3 and an Equinox balancer to use with it.

I think this one might have gone too far...
