"Castle Creations - Package shipped to you"

I got a Shipping notification from Castle at 5:00PM today.. I haven't ordered anything from them... Could it be.. Could it? The V3 is on it's way?:intello:

Anyone Else?

slimthelineman 10.17.2008 08:54 PM

i got the same e-mail. truly the r/c gods have smiled upon us or this is a sick joke, either way, YYYYEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

clowkoy 10.17.2008 09:03 PM

It could be.............. could be one of the 50 guinea pigs!:diablo:

e-mike 10.17.2008 09:03 PM

me too ive got this e-mail and i send a reply and ive got this

We have actually replaced it with a new one. Please let me know if you need anything else.

and i send another e-mail to cc just to ask if they ship me a v2 or v3??? im still waiting.....for the answer but i think it is the v3....castle hold my 4 v2 failed unit (close 2 month)and they never ship me some replacement unit...(until the issue was fixed)i think:whistle:

i just hope that is the v3

JaySki 10.17.2008 09:06 PM

I am pretty confident that it won;t be a V2 as they quit production of them.
I guess we'll find out Monday when the mail arrives! I may actually get some RC time before winter sets in! That's pretty darn cool. They still have three more of mine......

cembom 10.17.2008 09:08 PM

So If I have a v2 in my hands do I send it in for a trade?

I sent mine this morning. Hopefully I'll get a replacement before December.

just wait few days....or run it and if failed send it to cc...

cembom 10.17.2008 09:15 PM

But I Dont Want The Magimical Smoke Too Escape

JaySki 10.17.2008 09:15 PM

Yea.. Send it in if you want a V3 but I think they are replacing them as they came in from failure.. SO, if it works.. I'd use it as it may be a while for them to get through the queue.

RBMike 10.17.2008 10:00 PM

Wonder why the firmware is not ready for download from the site when it must be done & in the units they sent you guys???

e-mike 10.17.2008 10:01 PM

maybe next week for the firmware???

erevo15151y 10.17.2008 10:49 PM

i talked to castle today and she said they ran a very small run of v3's and are releasing them to 'test people' if they do good theyre gonna deal with the rest of us guinea pigs

erevo15151y 10.17.2008 10:55 PM

ive went thru two mmm's, been tryin since july, and it still sits collecting dust,, maybe the esc gods are gonna be with us for the V3,....

JaySki 10.17.2008 11:04 PM

well. I am pleased I will have another opportunity to drive my $2k toy before the snow flies... And I fully plan to do so.. However... The thought of being a beta tester again.. Isn;t to appetizing. I sincerely hope this goes well. If not.. I think I'll be wanting some money back and getting an MGM or something over the winter...

Well, it doesn't make too much sense that you are getting a V3 with the old firmware...afterall, Castle has admitted several times that one of the biggest changes for the V3 was software.

Siggghhh, looks like I'm running this weekend with the old software on my last new V2.

DRIFT_BUGGY 10.17.2008 11:16 PM

Great news

MTBikerTim 10.19.2008 06:45 AM

My V2 died today. Even running it with a bec didn't save it but it did make it last a lot longer. I just started playing with the esc settings. I cranked up the start power to medium and it was awesome. I was playing with the timing to see if I could see any difference between 0 an 10. It started glitching so I brought it in and switched it off and back on and then nothing.

Oh well it's a good thing the v3 is on its way, at least to some.

cwallis 10.20.2008 12:35 PM

As soon as you guys that posted, you have a MMM v3 comming, take some pictures of the case and let us all know if they have addressed all the issues. Thanks

I had planned on it.:intello:

lincpimp 10.20.2008 02:53 PM

Well I got a MMM in the mail today from castle. Might be a v3, but it still has the female bullet connectors on the board for motor and batt connections. Looking from the top the fan appears to have more clearance between the blades and the top grille. The brain board is different. The lower case is still not right, the fan plug still touches before the board contacts.

Brain board, note the difference in the Bec circuit, upper left area:

Lower case showing imprint of fan plug:

Upper case showing some clearance between the fan and the case?:

Inside of upper case:

In the next 2 pics note how there is a gap between the lower case and the board. i am pressing hard in this pic. Some foam suspension will be required, and I will clearance the case below the fan plug.

Here are some comparison pics between a v2 and the v3 I got today...

From what I can tell, the cases are identical, so I guess CC do not have the new cases yet. IIRC, Patrick did say that they were getting them next week (2 weeks last week).

Everything else seems to be identical other than the brain board, which has a few deleted components, and a few new ones. Mainly seems to be confined to the Bec area.

More pics showing both v2 and v3:

lincpimp 10.20.2008 03:03 PM

So here are a few thoughts...

The lower case needs to be different in a few ways. Patrick said that the new cases would have more clearance for the fan plug, and the fan. This should cure a few problems, and give the pcb added support. The fan wire still bothers me, as the ledge on the lower case can trap it between the case and the pcb. The cutout that clears the switch/signal wires need to be extended to clear the fan wires. Those fan wires also need some protection over them too, as they will rub thru under vibration.

My V3 also could do with added clearance between the motor plugs and the heatsink. I guess I will bend the fins a bit and add some heatshrink. And I still think that the switch/signal wires need some sort of protection as they exit the case. I opened up the slot and added some heatshrink on my other v2. I will most likely do that to this esc. I plan to swap this new esc into my lst and test it hard. Hope it keeps up!

RBMike 10.20.2008 03:13 PM

Hmmmmm, I think I'll just pot the whole bottom case half when mine comes.

Pdelcast 10.20.2008 03:23 PM

Additional comments:

The brain board is blue. This is so we can tell if the controller is a V2 or a V3 at a glance.

There will be some V3 controllers with 6.5mm plugs on the battery side.

We got the new cases in TODAY, so they are mailing out cases to people who got the 25 "early" MMM V3 controllers.

The controllers all shipped with V3 firmware. The V3 firmware just isn't available on the web yet, because we have to make sure it still works OK with all of the other controllers, not just the MMM.

Thanx!

Patrick

Sneaky Pete 10.20.2008 03:29 PM

Can you plug it into Castle Link and see if the firmware is anything other than version 1.19?

My guess is they are having you test the new hardware on the pcb and firmware (maybe) to see how it holds up in peoples' setups. Meanwhile, they are obviously waiting for the new cases.

Sneaky Pete 10.20.2008 03:30 PM

Well, Patrick beat me...

I sure hope that V3 firmware gets updated soon.

So, could you also comment, Patrick, on the clearance between the plugs on the motor side and the heat sink?

V3 software will be online either tonight or early tomorrow.

There is no issue with clearance between the plugs and the heat sink. We've tried every possible combination of short between the plugs and the heat sink, and it just doesn't cause any problems or issues. (usually it just ablates the aluminum and keeps right on going. -- in no case does an output short through the heat sink cause ESC failures.)

cembom 10.20.2008 03:56 PM

What I wanna know is when can I just order mine....:diablo::na:

TexasSP 10.20.2008 04:05 PM

Thanks for the updates Patrick.

Any word on the motors though? Just curious as I am contemplating some changes to my revo.

How does a short accross the motor ouputs or battery inputs effect the lipo battery itself. Even a momentary dead short for a lipo can mean a dramatically shortened life for the cells.
