NIce nick, what speed is that geared for?
|
Oh man that truck deserves LiPo. Does it have a mix of 1/8th buggy shocks AND PowerStrokes?
|
What the hell??? Is that beer or nitro fuel in the background on picture 3? We'll give you the break on this one and say it's beer. Looks nice how about a better picture of the custom chassis you made?

Here's the CAD drawings I did. This was just for a rough proto so it only has the essentials milled out. I have been meaning to cut another chassis and make it look nicer and reduce the weight. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3.../underside.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...gs/topside.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...DSCF2465sm.jpg My first chassis mock ups http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...DSCF2513sm.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...DSCF2515sm.jpg |
That's great. That is one of the parts of this hobby I really enjoy. There's a lot that can be done on your own if you have the desire to try and make it. First time's usually the prototype and doesn't always work out for me. Oh by the way I got a bottle like that around my place too. I try to keep it out of the pictures though. Keep up the good work. I like the build you got.

Top work, one of the best Emaxx's i have seen
|
I really like those CAD drawings, can I ask what you do to pay for your hobby?
I am hoping that we end up getting a CNC at work soon, so I can have a play at making some custom parts. Nice work with the machining. |

As for the CAD and machining. I don't do the machining myself. I have a guy that owns a machine shop local to me that I've worked with for a while now. I do all the CAD work and then just give him drawings and he can cut right from them. If I have a CNC machine and figured out how to use it I don't think I'd EVER leave that thing. |
I design displays for companies.

(for personal use only!) |

I had an interesting thought, what about chopping up that prototype chassis and making a lower battery tray for it, much like the old RaceBomb chassis. That would lower the CoG alot, though battery layout would have to alter maybe. A123 or lipo, its all good though aint it...
|
I did start designing a chassis that did what you're talking about Neil. replaced the bottom skids with a chassis plate and used an upper deck where the chassis originally mounted and used a center diff. I just never really proceeded with it because I already have a truggy.

Ooh, thats pretty gnarly, I like.
|
have you thought about getting the 3905 tranny and putting it in there with the revo cast mount the put the motor down low and toward the front up by the servo.... just something i was thinking while looking at your pics..... good to see people rocking the emaxx in a world of revos.
nice video also, what kinda runtime you getting out of 6s 1p A123 cells on the 10xl |

I use about 1500mah in a 5 minute qualifier. Luckily we only have 10 minute mains so I can get through them with a 6S2P |
Yeah, the 3905 tranny comes locked into 2nd gear as standard, but it wont work with the RR slipper setup saddly- uses a round input shaft and a pin to hold the slipper plates in place, rather than a hex shaped shaft.
|
That is a beautiful E-Maxx, mine is still in progress.
|
Thanks Crazy,
I picked up a Zippy 6S 5000mah 20C-30C pack to replace my 6S1P A123. I liked the A123 but wasn't a fan of the run time, especially for racing. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...y/DSCF5332.jpg First initial test run was good. Motor warmed up but nothing bad. Second run didn't go so well. Had a light dusting of snow so after about 8-9 minutes of wheel spin and drifting I got a lot of glitching and no go. Tore the motor down to find this. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...r/DSCF5425.jpg Looks like the magnet let loose and was flopping around in inside http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...r/DSCF5424.jpg I think I'm going to give one of those 70mm or 80mm medusas a try and definitely gear down a bit. It was EXTREMELY fast geared 22/66 and obviously over worked the motor  |
80mm medusa FTW!!!
|
Those make for good science project magnets, Or they can hold a small child to the refrigerator.
|
Lol, indeed- even my de-magged hobbycity 9XL is pretty dang strong, makes a beautiful fridge magnet.
|
Nick, nice E-Maxx man. I am still waiting for my 70mm Medusa for my eLSP-R and bashing with my maxx for the time being. Very nice work you do.

Seen some of the 70mm Medusas running and I'm impressed. As soon as I can get a hold of an 80mm and figure out how to get a center diff in this truck I'll be back to running.
|
I am with mine! I am running a 36-70-2000 on 5S and it's a beast! I might end up stuffing that on my E-Maxx with 4S and get a 36-70-1600 for the eLSP-R to be run on 6S... IDK. The choices are driving me nuts.
|
Yeh lots of options out there for sure!
|
Man that is a awesome looking truck! I love the custom chassis. Someday I would like to convert my old t-maxx to a emaxx. Would it be possible to get that .dwg from you? Keep up the great work!
|
Hey Nick
I like that custom chassis and the chassis braces :intello: What is the WB with that chassis and did you extend the chassis equally front and rear ?? |
I haven't been on the site for a while. Was just lured back while searching for beefing up a maxx trans. Thought I'd update this thread to say this E-maxx was sold......
I have a baby on the way next month and thinned out a lot of my RC collection. Still have a few left but I never got around to getting a new motor to keep this E-maxx alive. |
