My revo conversion
Well, I decided to convert my 2.5R revo into brushless. It will be powered by a Neu 1515 1Y and MMM combo. However, while waiting for the motor to arrive (though I can transfer the TeknoRC Neu 1515 1Y from the gmaxx), I decided to start assembling the truck.
Installed the Tekno RC conversion kit I bought from James (lincpimp): http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...on/Picture.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture001.jpg MMM V3: http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture002.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture003.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture004.jpg The TeknoRC conversion kit elektri-clutch uses a 2-shoe clutch system. I don't want to run this 2-shoe clutch with a 1515 1Y. Instead, I took out the stock clutch and installed my UE 4-shoe clutch from my supermaxx (retired from bashing and racing duties). TeknoRC elektri-clutch: http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture005.jpg Diameter of the flywheel mounting hole (elektir-clutch): http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture006.jpg UE 4-shoe mounting hole diameter: http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture007.jpg That's only a difference of .02mm. The lip itself is about 2mm so after grinding it off, it will be about the same with the stocker. The UE 4-shoe clutch also used the e-clip just like the stock clutch. My assortment of clutches/flywheels etc next to the assembled 4-shoe elektri-clutch: http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture015.jpg Feedback is greatly appreciated. |

Nice set up. Thinking of same set up for my Muggy. Have 1515-1y & MMM. Talked to R C Monster Mike about Motor mount & Bat tray. He also suggested 1515-3d. Running E-REVO w/ 1515-1y, MMM, 2-7.4 8000 Max Amps lipo, plus other racing mods.

Will try to send more pics. This is all new to me sorry.

nice setup, i am in the process of doing the same to my revo 2.5r, just recieved my conversion today :D
|
I still have to test-fit the motor mount/clutch after I grind off the lip at the back of the flywheel. I might have to yank off the 1515 from my gmaxx for test-fitting.
I'll be running 4S on this truck once I receive my new lipos from neumotors. |
Nice Lito another conversion. Is that MMM the replace you got from CC or you bought a new one. Mine still hasnt reached CC  ...
We'll be watching this.... |
Jeff, it's the replacement MMM. Right now, I'll just leave Luciano's ESC on the Emaxx and just transfer the motor until I receive another motor.
|
Looking good Lito, i still really like those conversions, more so than the actual E-revos, seems sturdier with the metal chassis. Can't wait for updates :great:

I also have a REVO 3.3 w/21 OS that i race when Electric is not allowed. I am in the Sportmans class and by far the best driver but i can cartwheel, back flip, front flip, and tumble and twist with the best of them. My point is that its a REVO plastic or metal nothing twist or broke. What really attracted me to the E was the battery compartments which i wish were a little bigger. Biggest bat that i could fit are Max Amps 2s 2p 7.4 8000mil which I am sure will not last for 30min mains or longer. I still think that it still easyer to change out batteries then to restart nitros IMO.

Here are some pictures of the tranny I modified for the brushless revo. I converted the revo 2 speed to a single speed locked in 2nd gear using an adapter plate I bought from Oomp(one of the guys over at traxxas forum).
Single speed adapter plate: http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture025.jpg It was designed for the plastic 2nd gear so I have to dremel the RRP 2nd gear to make it fit. http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture026.jpg I also drilled the shaft to 2.5mm so I can use a bigger pin(stub axle pin) for added strength: http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture028.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture029.jpg Side by side with stock RRP: http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture032.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture033.jpg |
Some more pictures:
1st gear removed: http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture034.jpg The assembly: http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture037.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture035.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture039.jpg The top shaft hole was also enlarged to 2.5mm in order for me to use a bigger diameter pin. I used the revo yoke setscrew custom-cut to size. http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture021.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture022.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture023.jpg The flywheel after grinding the lip: http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture018.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture019.jpg |
looks good so far

I'm impressed Lito.... I'm craving brushless after I drove my new supervee 27 brushless boat... :mdr:

Here's some pictures of the build progress. Rear extended arms installed: http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture042.jpg Suspension installed: http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture043.jpg TeknoRC motor mount installed: http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture045.jpg 1515 1Y/F installed along with the UE 4-shoe clutch and Kyosho 17T narrow clutch bell. The finned version was almost a tight fit. I had to push it in a little bit. I used 4 8mm caphead screws to mount the motor. http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture047.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture048.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture049.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture050.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture051.jpg I'll be installing the MMM tomorrow night after I finish soldering all the connections. My target is to do the test run this coming weekend. |
Cant wait for the video Lito :yipi:
|
I hope my son will go to the track with me or else....... :whip::whip::mdr:.
I almost forgot I still need the 2S packs I ordered so I can run 4 and 5S on this truck. Right now, I start with a 36T spur and 17T pinion and go from there. If I don't like the temps, I'll go down to 16 or 15T clutch bell. |
Wow that looks great can't wait to see it run... BTW Lito what charger are you using?
|
Looks great.
|
Thanks guys.
Chris, I'm using a Hyperion 0610Duo for my charging needs. It's powered by a 25A Pro-peak power supply. I need to sell my Super brain 977 on fleabay so I can buy more batteries :party:. Edit-We'll see how long this 4-shoe clutch will last. |
Looks GREAT!!!!!!!! I appreciate the play by play action of your pics and your walk through process. Good information. Thank you for sharing and keep up the good work.
Sorry for interfearing with my dum pictures that did not apply to your post. |

Any reason you chose the 2.5 chassis over the 3.3??

well done Lito. 17 days from chassis with almost nothing on it to nearly completed.
i must say though, is there any substantial benefit from using the elecktri-clutch? to me it just looks like extra weight. |

I'm not really sure how the elektri-clutch is going to work to be honest with you. Since it came with the conversion kit, I might as well try it :intello:. I do have some pinions I can use if I don't like the elektri-clutch. |
More update:
I installed the MMM today. I don't like the TeknoRC mounting position so I fabricated my own mount using 3mm aluminum. Stock on right side, my creation on the left side: http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture052.jpg After it was painted. http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture053.jpg The holes line up with the rear shock mounts. I used 25mm spacers and 2 40mm caphead screws to mount it in place. http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture054.jpg With industrial velcro: http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture056.jpg I also lengthened the MMM switch wire: http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture057.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture058.jpg My biggest concern. The positive bullet connector is too close or either touching the heat sink. I can't install a heat shrink around it. http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture060.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture062.jpg The MMM temporarily mounted on the truck. The ESC sits lower now instead of being on top of the tranny. http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture064.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture065.jpg |
Here's a video on stand. It's running on 3S since I have not received my 2S packs yet. I still have to install the brakes.
