Reciever Boxes?

Does anyone know where to get a reciever box? Not the huge ones like you see on nitro vehicles - something for the reciever only. I want some kind of plastic box that I can also attach the antennae to. Any ideas? Thanks!

wallot 11.14.2008 01:55 PM

have a look at this one

Sower 11.14.2008 01:57 PM

Wow, that one looks pretty good actually - thanks!

You can use all sorts of things for a box. RadioShack project enclosures work ok, but need a bit of modding usually. Or, you can mod the nitro receiver box to suit your needs. For instance, I cut out part of a Mugen MBX5 rx box and it's the prefect size for a Spektrum rx and a little bit of excess servo wire.

I like the slash box, waterproof, you can get them on ebay for about $5

I was going to suggest the E-revo baox but the slash's is prolly the same one

Sower 11.15.2008 03:23 PM

Well, I bought the Slash box at the LHS and it's just too big to fit the area I'm looking to put it. I'm trying to put it on the right hand side mud guard in front of my motor. Kind of in between the motor and the servo.

It's turning out to be a tough fit. I might have to try Radio Shack as suggested. If I could find out the dimensions of the GT2 box that might work too, but I can't find that info anywhere. Thanks for all the help so far guys. Any other ideas?

I have an original t-maxx Rx box thats going spare- never used it as my old FM rx was too large to fit inside & mount on my Gmaxx. I dont have dimensions, but can measure it up if you're interested- just pay S&H..

Try looking at other manufactures. I know OFNA and HPI had some smaller boxes than Traxxas typically does. RPM also used to sell a radio box.

Ok, I actually have a couple of those laying around. I'll go to the lhs to see if they have a small RX box.

Sower 11.17.2008 11:00 AM

You guys are all awesome - thanks for the great info. I found a great box at the LHS this weekend made by RPM - basically a replacement for the Associated GT2. I'll post some photos of the install after I finish a couple things. It ended up working really well.

Sower 11.18.2008 11:29 AM

Ok, here's a couple pictures of how it turned out - let me know what you think.

Well . . . I guess I don't know yet! I've been working on these revisions to my XT8 and haven't gotten them all set up yet so I haven't driven with it yet. I will say it's an amazing controller from what I've studied so far, and I really like the feel of it in my hand. The quality is awesome - can't even tell you the difference in feel over my Spektrum.

bdebde 11.18.2008 04:19 PM

Looks good. One question; why an external fan with the heli version neu? No matter what gears or tires I run in my heavy Muggy, I can't seem to get the finned neu (1515 2.5D) much over 160F.

Sower 11.18.2008 04:32 PM

True - however I dont' even like my motor over 150. I guess you could call me overly cautious. Besides, the fan doesn't use much energy so I figured what the heck. I might try running it without the fan though and see what kind of temps I get.

George16 11.18.2008 06:01 PM

Looks nice and clean.

I would think the heli model would stay below 150 no problem, unless you have ridiculous gearing.

It's not too bad, but I do have to gear it up since it's 1100kv. Right now I'm running a 15t pinion and a 44t spur. I'll check the temps the next time I get it running. Although I'm sure it will stay nice and cool w/o a fan right now since it's below 60 degrees here.

Thanks Scott! Well, I actually just pulled the box off the shelf at my LHS. It was apparently RPM's version of the Associated GT2 reciever box. Ok, I just went to Tower and found it - here's the link:
