What are your space limitations? Distance between chassis braces, distance between front and back of chassis hole for tranny, distance between driveshafts, etc...

well, it will be going into this chassis....http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...chassis&cat=47

I suggest a search through threads by Linc and Sike- they are the outrunner conversion gurus, and have converted both maxxes and revos- both platforms requiring near identical setups...

Thanks Neil...I will do a bit of research...pm-ing

Something like this motor would be good for a maxx with stock diffs.

Now, stock diffs will most likely not hold up to the power... But the 3905 will be the best bet. That chassis you list will have to be cut wider in the center to accomodate the width of the utrunner. Anything smaller in diameter will lack the torque to startup under the load.

If you need cheaper, check out the 4130 equivelant motors on HC.

Get what you pay for... If you want to do some searching try rcgroups for sale section... Often have axi for sale there used.

Linc...I am using the 1/8 HB diffs and the Fastlane hybrid bulks, if it makes a difference

I figured some mods will need to be done to the chassis. I am looking for about 35-40 on 5s with this set up.
I know zip about this set up...just something different to try.

Buggy or truggy gears? If you are using the buggy gears something around 400kv will get you 40mph on 5s... Only way to alter the speed is tire height and kv, so choose wisely.

Truggy gears...don't remember the gears exactly as I bought them a year ago

magman 11.16.2008 11:21 PM

Is there a brand that is better than another?

In that case 500-550 kv would be the window for 5s and 40mph...

magman 11.17.2008 12:55 PM

Thanks linc! I will look into it a bit more.

magman 11.17.2008 07:22 PM

Am I to understand that this one is a 385 kv motor?...http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXPPY0&P=7
I am looking for a 500kv motor to run on 5s..

I am unclear as to what to look for in the specs..
