RC8 vs Losi8 vs Xray vs Xb808

I have decided I want to add a buggy to the garage...is one just as good as another?....is Xray superior?.........i'm leaning towards losi because of the offset center diff.....but xray has this also?........is offcenter a big deal?

anyone hear own these three?

rootar 11.19.2008 07:02 PM

some say the RC8 has a fragile front end and it doesnt have big bores and you need to do the shock mod to make them work good, the losi is a great buggy but everyone ive talked to said the parts wear fast (arm and hubs and driveline gets slop and play), the xray is solid a pleasure to build, ULTRA tough, and the fit and finish is second to none, some people complain about parts support for the Xrays but i havent ever needed a part yet.

you cant go wrong with any of them, all handle well, it really depends on what kind of flavor you want. and plus the xray is metric and the losi and standard and i think the RC8 is standard too? migth be wrong but i wouldnt have any of those but an xray simply because it uses metric hardware and the qaulity of their parts and kits.

love my 8ight buggy conversion (used the tekno v3 conversion) and HIGHLY recommend!! This thing hasn't had a broken part in 2 months of racing.

jhautz 11.19.2008 08:11 PM

I'd say you would be happy with any of the 3. I persoanlly like Xray, but the Losi and RC8 are both great buggies as well. All have minor plus and minus IMO, so just so some reading up on the 3 and make your pick. I dont think you can make a wrong one with those 3 as your choice.

If you are looking to go budget... I saw a bunch of the 8ight race rollers going brand new for REALLY cheap all over the place because Losi just released the 2.0 version so you might be able to snag a deal if you arent worried about the minor changes they made to the new version.

stum 11.19.2008 10:30 PM

it's on amains home page... JJDPPTEN8

rootar 11.19.2008 10:58 PM

yea thats a hell of deal actually cheaper than the D8....

the Eights are NICE and excellent handling buggies i personally just have a grudge agianist anything that doesnt use metric hardware. but id take the losi over the RC8 if your leaving them pretty much stock (chassis wise.)

<---- Xray Lover! lol

Id say pay the extra bux and get an Xray! After a full season the XB808 is still like new, no slop, nothing broken and drives alot better then the Rc8 and 8ight.
You get what you pay for IMO... I ran the Losi all last season and was never comfortable driving it. Was always very loose and sloppy (plastics). Broke arms, shocks, spent a ton of money on clutch bearings and shoes not to mention 4 throttle servos but if you're converting you wont need to worry about that... my vote still stands with Xray though!! :mdr:

Comparing the losi 8 I had to my ofna hyper8 I was disappointed with the losi... Sold the losi and kept the hyper. I would go with the xray, their stuff is very nice.

excellant info guys just what I was looking for

fkadir 11.20.2008 01:30 AM

Another vote for the X-Rays. Best quality IMHO.

bdebde 11.20.2008 01:55 AM

If I was getting a new buggy (thinking about it), I would get a D8. But I do like the xray quality, just not the price.

cheesecake 11.20.2008 03:51 AM

i like my rc8 but its all how you set it up i drove jhautz 808 that thing turned so smooth but to me my rc8 just feels right to jhautz its to twitch it just depends on what you like and what your willing to spend but either way you cant go wrong

DRIFT_BUGGY 11.20.2008 04:23 AM

If I was getting a new buggy it would either be the Xray or Kyosho or maybe the new 8ight 2.0. Only thing I have broken on the 8ight after much abuse is a bent shock shaft (my fault) and a antenna tube from landing on the roof to much

Semi Pro 11.20.2008 06:24 AM

great info guys

thats a hell of a deal on amain, i may have to buy one

It really is.. but the only issue w/ the RTR's is you don't get any of the upgraded parts.. shafts throughout (shocks and pins), aluminum shock caps, the upgraded chassis (unless you repalce w/ the tekno v3 chassis), the ugpraded shock towers, and I forget exactly but I think there are a few other things like the hubs for example. After somewhat recently doing on of these projects... I wouldn't buy any kits or rtr's, I would simply buy the tekno v3 combo (I like the 8ight but they have all versions) then go on ebay and buy up the rest from folks who are parting brand new race rollers. That is just me though... really of the three, I would get the one that has parts at your LHS so if you need something you don't have to wait for mailorder, and you don't have to have a load of spare parts w/ lots of money tied up as none of these break that often if you are a decent driver. Some of those guys breaking a-arms on one type vs the other is a bunch of crap as they are all just as durable in that area as the other one; breakage will occur if you wreck hard enough with any, but they are all super durable.

My vote would go to xray for all the reasons already stated. I run an XB8 EC and XT8 and am in love with them. I shelved my Jammin X1-CR in favor of the XB8 and am very glad I did.

I haven't known anyone to purchase that buggy yet, haven't seen to many people interested

Mister-T 11.20.2008 05:58 PM

Why I do not recommend RC8

http://capelle.freebox.free.fr/target25.html

From what i have seen, Handling is ok but overall durability vs other brands is in the lower range
