Kyosho Blizzard Brushless
|
Sweet! Someday I will get one!
|
i gotta get one of them...
|
That's a lot of speed for caterpillar tracks. Looks like fun, except pointless in Houston as we get little snow if any......
It's said the M1A2 Abrams tank can get to 90 mph but the tracks won't stay on. |
I wonder how the rest of the drivetrain holds up to brushless power. I was thinking about buying a nitro version and doing a conversion.

Far out, surprised at the speed it had.
|
Don't bother with the nitro version. It has the same axle as the elec version. The whole thing is super light too. Almost everything is plastic. The only upgrade I've done is to add full ball bearings.

Looks nice desmo.

Your Blizzard looks good, Desmo. Was that full throttle in the video? It looked like about 12 mph; not bad for tracks! I'll be using a Holmes Hobbies Crawlmaster outrunner (1000kV) in my Blizzard, running on 4s LiPo. It's gonna move whether it wants to, or not! I hope nothing breaks... Speaking of which, how long have you been running your setup, and have you noticed any areas in particular that are showing wear? How do the drive chains hold up? The plastic drive cogs are the only thing I'm really worried about. |
Thats not mine in that video. I'd have to say mine looks faster than that one but its hard to tell. The neo one is supposed to be 4800kv i think. I'll try it this winter on 3s and see how it goes. Nothing has shown much wear. The chains rust after a few runs, the chrome comes off the idlers(wheels) and you have to run the tracks tighter than you think they should be. I don't really have that much run time on it with the brushless set up. It doesn't snow much here. Have you installed ball bearings? it really helps it out. Its so light i think it will hold up just fine.

Oops! Must be Jason's? Or is it something he found on the website? Meh.
Yes, I do have the bearing kit installed. |
my specs :
MOTOR : 4370KV ESC : MAMBA MAX 1/10 ( ALL SETTINGS LOWERED ) PINION : 27T SPUR : STOCK ( 86T ) BATTERY : 6C 7.2V 3800MAH TOP SPEED : AROUND 8 TO 9MPH |
Do any of you know the difference between the Blizzard EV and the Blizzard DF-300? They appear to be quite similar. I've done a bit of searching. It looks like the DF-300 is newer, but I can't find the actual differences.
Thanks. |
Funny I just traded a 1/18 i pieces (to small to work on IMO) for a Blizzard EV.
Any thoughts if a Sidewinder paired with a 4600 on 3S would work ok or not ? |

No problem!

Are there any durability upgrades for these things? I can't find any pictures of the "internals" for ideas. The only pics I can find are the obvious ones on Kyosho's site. I'm still thinking of picking one up just to build a damn kit. Besides, with all of the snow here it could be put to use.

Aside from the bearing kit, I haven't been able to find any upgrades either. The gears inside are of a grayish cast metal (it isn't steel and I doubt it's aluminum (?)). The axles are all hardened steel.

Nice , i was going to build one of these a couple of years back but put a tank body on it , forgot all about it until now . Might have to re kindle that project
I remember even finding a dedicated forum for these things back then . |
There are AFAIK one difference between the EV and DF-300, a brace in front to keep the chassis from bending.
http://www.making-trax.com/articles/...-10-31,051.jpg Can be ordered as a separate item from Kyosho, just ordered mine.. For more info about the Blizzards see http://www.making-trax.org/ I plan on running mine on 3S with either a Mamba 4600 or a Feigao/KB36 |
Wait a second- Is that a 2-speed??!! Is that only because it's a nitro? That whole transmission looks different from mine.

Here's a little something I cooked up. The wife doesn't care, so I thought I'd share with you guys.

I like it:lol: Was that was a nitro version? When I bulit my EV blizzard i put a fast high tq servo in it for steering. WAY to much power. Now it has a standard futaba servo. I like the simple stock power train of the EV version. |

Questions for you Blizzard owners:
Seems silly, but how are you guys keeping the cab part of the body attached to the rest of the body? I put extra strength Velcro on both sides and even the front, and it still won't stay on. It's driving me nuts. The stock Velcro just wasn't strong enough. This new Velcro's adhesive won't stick well enough to the lexan. Are you super-gluing or shoe-gooing or something? Also, are the bearings on eBay really worth the $22 or is there another source you're aware of? Thanks! |

The bearings made a huge difference on mine. |
Thank you, Desmo, for the response!
I ended up CA gluing the velcro to the lexan and it appears to be holding now. I'll have to splurge for the bearing set for Christmas. Do you find yourself getting a ton of snow in the truck still or have you done additional mods to keep the snow out? |

The Blizzard is hard to find in Utah. The only shop that carries them is Hobby Habbit in Orem. That's where I picked up mine. If you tell them you're a crawler, they'll give you a discount. |

I need some advice on what TX to use for a Blizzard with a plow.
I have no experience on anything else than 2 channel radios. The plow can be tilted and lifted/lowered so I guess I need a four channel radio. But from what I understand most stick radios "spring back to center position" when letting go of the stick. How can I tilt my blade and the servo keeps it position without me having to constantly force a stick in a certain position ? I found this budget radio, can it be used ? http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...x_&_Rx_(Mode_1) And also I want to have throttle on the left stick and steering on the right, should I go for a mode 1 or mode 2 radio ? Would be very greatful for any hints to get a working four channel setup. |
