you definately do not want locked diffs. It will snap your axles and make it turn like a bus.(your inside wheels need to turn rotate slower than the outside in a turn.) The only tires I know of for monster trucks are pro-lines road rages, IMO they suck though. Maybe 17mm adapters and buggy wheels? We can't determine spur/pinion until we know what motor you'll use, what batteries you'll use, and how fast you want to go. Good Luck, and welcome to the forums!

oh , ok thanks. I thought that's what I would need for drifting and hard pack off-road rally driving , No?

if change to differential what weight of fluid should I put in diff ?

Thank you
oh the motor is Feigao 7xl 2382 kv
Looking for mostly power torque speed would be nice in the 40's
Found this AWESOME SPEED/Motor Calculator but it's hard to figure what gear set

Looking for a 5mm shaft pinion , not sure what size tooth pinion though, any suggestions.

Great looking project, :intello:I’ll be looking forward to watching it progress. A few Q &A for you??

1. Those front and rear drive lines are long.. How did you do that (It looks like to cut up a bunch of 3905 drivelines and made one long one ??) just and FYI If you ever need custom t – bones made up just PM Jordan.. He’ll hook you up with his guy who did his..

2. I think the 3905 Trans is rated @ 6s Max so at least you know your limitations there are

3. What diffs are you using ??? the stock 3905 ones or will you be installing these ?? http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...RO_DIFF&cat=17

4. I'm assuming that you want some large tires for it so here a link to some 23mm hubs. Or use 17 mm like Paralyzed motioned below. http://www.impaktrc.com/advanced_sea...0e44341af7ef3f

5. I have no idea on the type of tire sorry but Ryo-James will know!!! He’s building a killer 5th scale too here is his thread if you wanted to see how he’s doing it?? http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16158

6. Two 3s 5000 lipo’s should work great, but you will need a MMM V3 or a MGM controller / ESC try here: http://www.rc-monster.com/brushlesscontrollers.php

7. lipo’s here: http://www.rc-monster.com/batteries.php or here: https://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/...idProduct=6350

8. You’ll need a good strong servo so I’d go with JR 8711 440 oz or the Airtronics @ 423 oz both digital, metal gear ect..

That’s about all I can think of now sorry!.. OOo 7k in the front diffs and 3-5k in the rear is what oil i use in my trucks..

Hope that helps and have a great weekend

Shaun.

Welcome to the forum! :intello:

You are an Ace
Thank you ! and HUGE Thanks to your Awesome Feedback and the links, that is really great.

1. they are Revo's cut and used 2 to get the length. outer, innner, outer inner outer to trans
Thank you for the name of where to get stronger ones . I saw those in jordans build.
2. the trans is an old emaxx not 3905, but I like the Laydown option of the Xray b808 diff.
3. diffs are stock with spools. should I go back to Diffs? maybe use Ofna Diffs. cant afford the Hotboddies right now, I was laid off my 10yr job a few months ago and finding another job has been tough.
4.5. I'll check that out.
6. Cant afford a new ESC right now, but thank you for your input.
7. my Mamba max can only handle two 2s lipo, but I will look into those as I will Always Progress in this build as money will allow.
8.Servo will be a Airtronics 400oz or a Hitec 5955 that I have

Thank so much again . You are the man !
like to read your builds

TDC57 12.06.2008 12:54 AM

You’re more than welcome we all help out each other whenever we can..

your MM will do great on 4s no worries, you might want to think about adding a fan and doing mods to it later.. Just a thought..

Jordan is you man on the Center diffs too.. here's link to them if you want or watch Ebay they have some XT8 and 808 center on there now of sale
http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...oducts_id/8633
You will also need some of these..
http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...oducts_id/8629 or Ebay for a better buy..

Best of luck again should be a fun build..

Bye the way thanks for the compliments..:intello:

Arct1k 12.06.2008 12:59 AM

For 4s I would recommend adding an extra Cap either the Novak HV 2700uf or similar.

You should also get an Ubec and the 5v fan is not a bad idea...

What do you recommend for 6 volt fans ? ?
going to use a Deminsion engineering BEC. I have Castle becs but I am using them in my Crawlers.
Humm , not sure just yet how to fit-add a Cap on the mamba, Castle tech said it will do well because they are so over built.
I'm stealing the MM out of my Latest Creation Full Throttle custom Super Crawler, build thread just added to my sig, it's got 6 watt 4 speaker MP3 stereo loaded in it complete with Real V8 engine sound.
Here's a sneak peek

My latest creation below
Console shifter turns car on
twin stick turns on stereo Amplifier
Sony MP3 with Tunes and Real V8 engine sound
18" wheel base 14" wide
Axial trans
Revo drive shafts
Losi aftershock Diffs, custom lockers
Hyper 8 shafts
Xtm hubs
custom SS axle tubes and Knuckles
1/4 Tube steel MIG welded Chassis
2wd, 4wd and DIG by Remote
HiTec 7955 front rear steering servos
Castle bec
Mamba max
Climbs great when tires are working, Moabs stink

TDC57 12.06.2008 02:13 AM

Those / that supper crawlers are way too cool.. You need to post it up in our crawling section and let the team see it there.. Why you are there you might also like to see Lincpimps 6x6 it's really cool.. and check out MetalMan's COR build there as well and many, many other great builds

I'm glad we can help!, :yipi: we all help out eachother when we can that what makes this place GREAT! :intello: we are all one big happy famely.. Kinda of :lol:

Hey Speed Assault i've been working on a similar 1/5 scale emaxx based sedan, and i found a way to use legit 5th scale tires without making wheel adapters. We should start getting people psyched on large scales!

Dude that's Sweet ! where's your build ?
Without adaptors, what's your idea ?
From what I have read the 1/5 wheels are about 18mm square. those tiresare super expensive and those guys have races in my area which is where I picked up that Yellow Sedan for free. Tony from Rc tech said that the best time to pick up used tires is end of the season. What places, ideas do you have on getting wheels to fit?

Rian

I Trust Tyler 12.06.2008 09:04 PM

I wish i finished my build, i was planning on changing out my e-maxx tranny for a lower profile style transmission. i have to get back into it, i found some 5th scale part hook ups via http://www.fgsupply.com/cart.cgi?gro...9&movetopage=1 I bought a new body, 5th scale shocks and a few other random things for less than what regular 10th and 8th scale parts cost! the tires i bought were the most expensive part..100 bucks and i don't wanna divulge the wheels i used just yet because i do plan on finishing and having a build thread for it. You'll be the first to know.
Main reason i stopped building is that i got into building my 240sx and went totally nuts with it.

I Trust Tyler 12.06.2008 09:17 PM

I also really wanna build a 5th scale Baja truck, Ahhhh so many ideas, so little time and money!

lydiasdad 12.07.2008 07:59 PM

Here is e-maxx to 1/5 scale baja. I LOVE it. http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10363

Arct1k 12.07.2008 08:19 PM

Here is a link to the cap you need - Just solder it on a couple of short leads close to the battery connections on the MM. I have 3 MM burn up before I started adding these - Since I did I've never had an issue...

http://search.digikey.com/scripts/Dk...name=P10286-ND

As for the fans - these should be ok.

dude! i love that crawler. thats what i want to build soon. i will hit you up with many questions when i do i am sure. it looks great. here is my most recent build. http://www.maximizerproducts.com/max...mm_Hex_C35.cfm

as for 1/5 scale wheels and tires check here.

its in german but you can usually tell what it is saying by deciphering from the pics. or you can translate using this site.

and for more 1/5 build info contact Mohanjude here on the forum. he has built more 1/5 stuff than anyone i know and has lots of resources as he lives in europe where 1/5 is more dominant.

Wow Thank you very much Arct1k and RYU thatnks for the compliments
that's a big help.
I recently found large scale.
When I get a job and have some money I will be upgrading this project or start a bran new one.

Well Tyler Christmas is upon us so hopefully Santa will help us with some parts :mdr:
Had a tough time with that site, poorly done, lacks pics big time.

I have been searching for tires for awhile and narrowed it to the least expensive
What do you guys think ?
Both sets of 4 are the same size other than the Proline being barely wider
The New Slicks 110mm tall X 43mm more likely to Drift on these than the proline and only $24. to my door by Ebay
Or the Proline Road Rage tires slightly used and could be ok on street hopefully still allow some drift action and be cool on hard pack dirt
I could go with the slicks do to street driving and worry later about dirt tires unless I could accomplish some drift action and dirt action on the same tires. I can't wait to Drift it and drive it at the BMX park !

bruce750i 12.08.2008 11:59 AM

I like the crawler with sound system sweet! Now we need to find a way to get a Bass booming system in a pimped out low rider Rc on Duce Deuces(2.2"). I've thought about running a walkie talkie in a rc vehicle and say things over it to people close to it at the park.

Jabe 12.08.2008 02:43 PM

If you want to drift, you will need locked rear diff and tight front diff or even locked.
For tyres, i wouldnt go for any pipe, as you have so much power, so try taping tyres for first run, as with pipe you wont have any traction.
I drive 1/10 drift car, and my setup is soft springs and absorders, and locked rear and tight front diffs.
But you cant race and drift with same setups, it makes other one much harder.
And solid center diff, if you have any.

SpeedAssault 12.08.2008 07:40 PM

thanks Jabe
Since I already have locked Front & rear and parts to swap to a diff
What problems will there be for offroad?

Basically I am NOT looking to make a All out Drift car but a Rally car with the motor, power and tires to Allow some slide action when on street

and for future upgrades should I run a Diff in front or front and rear and then what Weight of oil ?

Anybody know what Tire great for Hard pack ?

Just got back from hobby shop, picked up a 13t pinion for the Feigao motor, I was not sure where to start on size but it was all they had for 32 pitch

Eventually I'll go with Neu 1515 or something motor
Thanks every body

Wow Shoe goo works great

ordered some onroad tires from Hobby shop, should be here any day

I'm back ! I got wheels

Help me with suggestions on an ESC !!

I dropped in my Mamba max and 12 nimh cells !
I'd say it maybe goes 22 mph with locked 4wd

so Shopping for a ESC
Mamba monster = only 6s lipo , possible 50 mph with Two 3s lipo 5000
MGM = 10 S lipo max , speeds over 70 mph maybe 80+

Car Weight
7.5 lbs
with Motor no battery 9 lbs
Loaded with 12 Nimh cells 12 lbs

Work To Do:
Motor needs to be lowered onto chassis
Bigger Shocks
Neu motor, not sure which one, maybe 1515
Needs Front Differential or a Xray Trans diff

ESC options:
MMonster
or
MGM 9032 Car/Boat controller 90 Amp

Latest Firmware installed! Future updates via computer download.
New "traditional" style construction with dual heatsinks!
Perhaps the ultimate "big truck" brushless controller! Dual Heatsinks, direct soldered battery and motor leads, 150000 rpm capability( with 2 pole motors), a 90amp capability with up to 32 cells or 10s LIPO packs!Programmable Lipo voltage cutoff, small size. This is among the best controllers available for high voltage brushless applications!

other high power ESC's 100-250 amp

Man thats a very neat conversion. I really am considering to extend my warhead evo into a 1/5 but it would have to be a "trophy truck" look or I wouldnt do it. I figure it would cost me $75 shipped for an fs-racing 1/5 mt body and another $80 shipped for an fs-racing 6061 milled 1/5 flat chassis.

hey thanks, it's just a low budget start. it will be car in progress when money comes. first time in my life I am out of a job.

Sounds good.
Where is this $75 mt body and chassis ?

emaxxnitro 03.17.2009 04:55 PM

if you have no limit on power system $
good motor http://www.castlecreations.com/produ...1515-3_5d.html
good esc
http://mgm-compro.com/index.php?tid=...-boat-z-series
good lipos http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...3150sp255s4500
high gearing

SpeedAssault 03.22.2009 09:56 PM

hey Thanks emaxxn

yea the MGM can do 10S but it is lacking the programing functions, like Tekin RX8 or MMM

5S isn't bad
but 6S or 8S or even 10S would be Sick !

I did some gear changing
58 Spur 32 pitch
21 pinion
3S lipo 2250 30C, took from my crawler
The wheels burn out and has tons of Torque ! :surprised:
I think speed was 25mph

I think I drop in a 25 pinion or a 21 with 48 spur
but cant wait to have 6S lipo

Sorry for so many questions, I am a newb but reading and trying to learn

Before I break the emaxx diffs I'm going to throw in LST Diff in the rear
Is there a Spool / locker for the LST LST2 diffs ?

I heard that a rear Diff with front spool would help the sliding and progression of forward movement
So I am wondering what a Center Diff would do, any advice on this ?

I'm looking for ways to clean up and Lighten the the drivetrain
Does anyone have a Center diff ? like a Xray808 setup ??

I have been searching all over, it looks easy to build but now there is mechanical brakes which sound really cool, that would really make drifting easy with applying front brakes :yipi:

Sorry I dont know how to import it but there's a thread in brushless titled 'Is there a rule of thumb to work out motor amp draw' or something to that affect. B4maz posted a calc sheet for working out motor and power questions. It might help you, it helped me.

A little help here
Need a battery, doing lots of reading, but there never seems to be enough details, like in the setup thread, lacks aprox speed, tranny setups, amperage.

On the Tutorials by suicideden
1900-2700kv = 4s lipo
1700-2000kv = 5s lipo
1500-1900kv = 6s lipo

So does that mean I cant run 6S on a 2200 ?
can someone point to where you get these Nue motors at ? need to talk to a tech.

Castle said he did not recommend the MM combo with my setup.

I can only buy so much at one time, so battery is next, even though my 2383 Feigao is temp at least I have it.

Also read that "AM radios and BL dont mix" But I have no Problem with my 20yr old Airtronics 27mhz.
