jnev 12.09.2008 10:23 PM

Very nice crawler. Simple yet effective. Looking forward to hearing (and seeing ) how the dig works. What radio system do you plan to use with it? How many channels are required for dig?

hey
I would love to build a FLM Crawler
can you give me a list of what I need

Thanks

Arct1k 12.16.2008 11:50 PM

Bugger! Stripped the whole thing to replace diff lockers - add a set of traxxas steel drive outputs and install a dig....

Yeah get is all back to together and get the annoying CC bec bind issue - fix than and poof.... My HS 225 servo for the dig starts smoking... I hadn't even connected the arm...

Anyone else had one go like that?

Arct1k 12.21.2008 10:23 PM

All back together again with custom chromium steel hardened lockers and a HR Dig - Which seems to works great with the full size servo!

It is a bit dwarfed by its big brother though! LOL!

Nice rigs you got there!

lincpimp 12.22.2008 01:37 AM

Looks good Chris. Not sure but the front steering link looks a bit low... Maybe you need a set of clockable c hubs to increase the caster towards neg. Or just move the lower links forward on the chassis one hole to bring the pinion down and rotate the steering up a bit. May help with your approach angle. Or get the ckrc behind the axle steering kit, less than 20 bucks...

I do like the axial axles, I have them on the jkeeper truck I made. I run a lower pinion angle, so my steering is not really in the way. My ground clearance looks to be less than yours, so my driveshafts are almost level. They never bind, no matter what.

Arct1k 12.23.2008 11:56 PM

Hi Linc - Yeah I was having issues with the FLM chassis when I moved the links inside - As you can just tell from the last pic I drilled some extra holes in the chassis to move the lower links further forward and this brought everything back into line...

Cheers.

rchippie 02.27.2009 11:13 PM

What is with the bent link connecting the two FR wheels ?.

Arct1k 02.27.2009 11:25 PM

Supposed to be a high clearance steering link but worked like C**P...

This is it now... with CVDs, derelin trans mount, RRP gears and slipper kit.. Oh and some bling...

Ps I had to drill the extra holes for the top links in the the chassis...

rchippie 02.27.2009 11:28 PM

I see you went back to a straight link . The lights look pretty cool . Why did you have to drill more holes ?. Also if i get this chassis what tranny mount & skid plate combo do i get ?.

Arct1k 02.27.2009 11:35 PM

I went for this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...#ht_975wt_1165

I did the mod to move the top links inside and further back - without drilling the extra holes the front and rear axles were tilted too far forward

Whats different about that one versus the stock one ?. Is the mod really needed or just personal preference ?.

Arct1k 02.27.2009 11:54 PM

mod works well and derelin is slippy

I thought it said it was aluminum :lol:. Do you have to do the mod ,to get the truck to work right ?.

Chris everything for my FLM crawler has been orderd & should be here by friday . My skid plate showed up today & my shocks will be here friday. How do you like the lipo on the FR axel ?. I dont know if im comfortable doing thaat .

Arct1k 03.04.2009 11:41 PM

sweet - i'm still awaiting the links from mike but everything else is done...

I'm not sure i'd like to run lipos on the front which is why i opted for a123 for my crawler - that way i don't have to worry about it but still get the benefits.

I bought some vpx packs cheap - iirc 30 for 3 packs and make a 2x3s1p 1100 packs for a 3s2p 2200 setup... i also have a 1s2p 2300 setup from a couple of spare cells.

Arct1k 03.04.2009 11:43 PM

note if you decide to run a dig you may have to run some mods on the spc plate - i'll get some pics for you at the w/e or when mike gets me the links ;)

I have two trakpower 3s 1600 lipo's for power . I could make a nice cover for them out of kydex plastic to protect them if i decide to mount them on the FR axle at a latter date . I most likly wont get a dig unit for a little while . I just saw on tower that the low cg battery plate does not have the 4 link mod on it . So i guess i would have to get a plate to copy & put the 4 link mod in it . But it is a little pricy $26.00 for that plate is a lot .

Arct1k 03.05.2009 07:49 AM

check out tcscrawlers plates they are pretty cheap...

Chris did you use all seven braces ?. I cant figure out were they all go .

Arct1k 03.05.2009 07:06 PM

nah - i dropped at least 2...

rchippie 03.05.2009 07:26 PM

Im having issues with mounting my links & need help. . Is this the size of your upper link ?.

rchippie 03.12.2009 10:07 PM

Ride height

What ride hight at the bottom skid is good ?.

Arct1k 03.12.2009 10:14 PM

I believe I used one set of internal limiters.

I set it up to keep the links flat. Not sure how much clearance that is.

Note I'm new to this and not an expert by any means.

I used i thick & thin internal limiter per shock or just about 1/4 inch . With my links level i have 2 1/2 inch of clearence on the skid . One of my shock bodys is bad . so Horizon is sending me a new one . so i wont be able to use my truck for just a little longer . I also need two more 40mm screws to finish the stage 2 mod .

rchippie 03.18.2009 04:36 PM

Update

My replacement shock bodys came in today . I installed them & now my crawler is running . I noticed the wheel rubs the shock springs at full lock . Does anyone else have this issue ?.

Arct1k 03.18.2009 06:42 PM

yes... does the same...
