Thanks for sharing the details of this mod. I am burned out on changing and charging AA batteries.

That's great. I hate to keep asking questions but I am getting ready to buy one and I wanted to know what kind of balancer tabs it has (I have hyperion and flight/thunder power for my charger).

Looks to have an align style tap. Those are quite popular for the chinese lipos. They are the next best tap, after the hyperion, IMO.

IIRC Align/E-Flite compatible same as my protek packs..

There is an adapter that will plug into a 6s tp lead and allow 2-6s align taps to plug in. I think align make it...

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I have a quick question for you guys who have done this mod:

Do you unplug your lipo every time you're done using your controller, or do they hold up well enough that you can just check it once a week or so?

I know the safest route is to unplug it when not in use, but I'm wondering if I could get away with a bit of risk since the "off" current draw is so low and I use it fairly often.

Thoughts?

When the switch is off, there is no current flow/drain, so it should be fine. The only other mod I personally would do would be to cut in a balance tap so you don't have to open it every time.

Sometimes I wish the DX3R/S would have stayed with the 8AA cell theme. Using a lipo for ~6v is too much work. :no:

No I leave mine in - Forgot to turn it off once and drained the battery to zero.

It bounced back ok though...

My battery is a 3s Dualsky 2500 mAh with a built-in balancer. I wonder if there are any drawbacks to a built-in balancer?

Well there is the weight :)

If it balances when not charging if cells get out of balance I've seen a balancer get confused and basically balance to cutoff as the cells kept boucing around and the balancer was too sensitive...

Also it might not bleed off that fast so charge slow.

Thats all i can think of...

that radio looks a bit familiar... i wonder where it is now? :lol: That lipo is still holding up great! I can use my radio for almost a month before needing to charge
