drkros3 12.28.2008 10:59 PM

u ran a 30min main on a 6cell 3250mah battery?

how did you do that lol.

e-mike 12.28.2008 11:05 PM

even with one battery change.....that why he could run 30 min.....and on 6 cell your amps draw is better than 4 cell:yes:

lincpimp 12.28.2008 11:19 PM

How many pits did the nitros take? Maybe 3? Did you do this with maxamps packs? If so good job...

jayjay283 12.28.2008 11:20 PM

Yay for Houston, (pfffart) quite a day for you @$%%#*&&^%$, RC wins & beating the crap out of the Chicago Bears..... Guess my dads happy Houston man, maybe a few more game with his season Texan tickets... bastids

DiFabio42 12.28.2008 11:33 PM

Congrats bro!

E-Revonut 12.28.2008 11:37 PM

Good job! I'm also curios how many stops the nitros made. I'm guessing a couple chanced with 3 and some went safe with 4. From what I've seen they generally pit at about 7 minute intervals. Did you infact do this with MA packs?

Sparky 12.29.2008 01:17 AM

Yes, I use Maxamps 6s 3250mah batteries. With 6s the current is low and it does not take as much punch. My batteries never get over 100F. I always get a solid 15min race level performance out of this system. I change my batteries every 15min. Keep in mind the heats are only 5min. If you run larger batteries, you are just caring around extra wight. The car actually corners and performs better.

Congrats, maybe electric does have the upper hand over nitro on certain length races. Only having to pit once compared to 3-4 times is better, even if it takes longer. I have an idea for a quick change lipo tray, maybe I should do more work on it. Good thing Mike is sending me some more kydex...

Nice work, and congrats from a fellow Houstonian!

wallot 12.29.2008 09:26 AM

very nice. really like your rules as they take into acount what people actually run.

TexasSP 12.29.2008 10:00 AM

Go Houston! I am sure the nitro heads were shocked when your rolling flashlight put it on them!

finfin 12.29.2008 10:24 AM

congratulations to you...

MetalMan 12.29.2008 01:54 PM

This is good for electrics! Great job, sparky.

A while back Serum came up with a quick-change battery tray system, but to my knowledge it was never produced. I have the PDF on my other computer, I can upload it here.

Congrats. How long is your battery swap? What do you do about the ESC Arming?

The battery swap was about 25 seconds. We left the swith on the ESC and just pulled the battery and plugged in the new one. By the time you get the strap on and the body on the arming process is over.

That's why I use a single battery with one velcro strap and my body is also velcroed on the car with no body clips.

Earl, I had no idea you had this thread on here. I was his pitman! :) It was definitely awesome to watch him win against all the other nitros.

slimthelineman 01.04.2009 07:11 PM

hey sparky, do you run on a tight track with your rc8? your geared for around 30mph. just wondering, ive got a 3d in my rc8 on 6s at 15/46 and its got tons of bottom end as well as decent top end too. also after your 15 min runs how much are your batteries taking on a charge? thanks in advance

magman 01.04.2009 08:19 PM

Well done Sparky!

Yes this track was a little tight. I change my gearing based on condition. During this race it was geared for 36mph. Your gearing is 38mph which is really good. I like from 40mph to 33mph.

I now have switched to the Losi 1300kv motor with 46/17 or 18 gear. The lower gears help with heat to make the 30min mains. The solder post on the Losi motors are better then loose Neu motor wires. I have damaged the motor wires on 3 Neu motors over the last year. That gets expensive. We will see if I'm still using the Losi motors a year from now? So far I'm really happy with them.

My batteries take about 2400mha charge after a hard 15min run. The timer on my radio is set to 15min and I always just stop. This makes my batteries last for a long time and they never get hot, maybe 100F..

slimthelineman 01.07.2009 12:29 AM

cool! thanks for the reply! im not in love with the soft drawn wires on the neu's either, but the power they make is worth it to me. when you say damaged your talking vibration=breakage right? just curious, just moved back to so cal from sf so i can actually run my car here now. our layouts are very close on our rc8's and im hoping to do well with it. unfortunately my last race was over a year ago and 1/10 scale 4wd so hopefully i can get some time off to see how bad i am at driving lol
