mm vs mmm why does one make more power?
ok i dont know if anyone has noticed , or if anyone could explain why and how. but i have multiple trucks with similar setups , and time and time again its very clear that the old mamba max makes more power , more punch than a mamba monster.
the setup is losi 8ight-t #1 has mamba max (ext bec and fan only mods) neu tekno1515 1y geared 48/14 on 4s flightpower 4900 #2 has MMM and neu tekno 1515 1y geared 48/14 on same cells. esc settings are the same timing 10deg , punch control off , start power low . throttle curve linear. it doesnt matter what packs i use and if i swap packs . the MM makes more punch and power. (you can even hear it by the tone of the motor screaming) yet drag racing each truck they have the same top end. and its is noticable that the MMM is smoother controller. can any castle techs explain ? or has anyone else noticed this as well? |
Do they have the same firmware?
|
Weird. In theory the MMM should be the more powerful setup as the FETS used in that esc are lower resistance than the ones used in the MM, allowing for greater current draw.
Could it be one motor is more worn than the other of a bad connection- try swapping them over and re-comparing them to see if its motor related or not... |
Also there may be a weak solder joint
|
Do you have any EagleTree confirmation?
Try to swap motors. |
Chances are that the MMM is not receiving the the full throttle signal from the receiver or it is not set up right. Try recalibrating it and make sure your endpoints are at their maximum value while doing so and also running the car. The LED on the MMM should be solid green when full thottle is applied.

none of the above is explaining why
yes all running 1.20 firmware no eagletree and no its not a dead solder joint , as i have 3xMM and 2xMMM's 4x tekno 1515 1y neus it also had the same result in my hyper st pro truggies as well .. the MMM just seemed and bit more mellow. so conclusion .. 4 different trucks , 5 different esc's, 4x motors all the same result .. MM seems to have more punch , power. ive been messing and testing with all these setups the last 6 months or so .. ( pretty much since the v2 MMM was released ) so its not something thats has just happened to me , and its doesnt worry me one bit .. just i perfer the power that MM makes in my trucks |
That's weird. Just comparing the power boards, there's no obvious reason as to why the MMM would have less punch than the MM (it has less on-resistance than the MM so should be even punchier, as others have reported). Maybe Castle refined or altered the back-EMF detection hardware so that the Monster would be smoother than the MM even with the same firmware...and maybe that's what you're perceiving as "less punch"?
If it's not your setup, then perhaps it's just a preference of yours...but many others have reported the Monster as being punchier than the Max when used in the same setup. |
has no one else got a old mamba max they can go back to , just to compare ?
|
+1 here for the MMM having more punch.
Seen it in different setups. As soon as the MMs were replaced with MMMs, the cars seem to have more power. Tested and confirmed by others as well. Maybe it acts different on Tekno Neus (I don't have one of them) but I really can not see how... Daf |
A theory why this might be true in some cases.
The MMM has a lower resistance and allows the motor to pull more current - In situations where the battery can support this you would have more "punch" however if the batteries can't keep up then the voltage could drop and perhaps feel like it has less punch - The MM might not pull so hard from the batteries in which case might feel better. Its a theory anyway... |

Probably firmware MMM has internal set-up for limiting current or similar..... for reducing flames.....
|
I noticed that my MMM is smoother than my MMs as well. I figure they use a very similar firmware (or possibly the same with a few little tweaks), but the MMM has a faster CPU in it. The best explanation I could think of was that the faster CPU could read back-EMF and calculate rotor position more precisely. That's all complete speculation though, just something I came up with while wondering what could make it smoother.

i can say. the new mamba maxes are less powerful. but the old one was very compairable to a mmm. but the mmm is more powerful
