Look what happened to my motor

I bought a TeknoRC Neu 1515 1Y/F motor on June 3, 2008. This afternoon, I was out in the track running my ST RR when suddenly on the second battery pack, my truck just stopped. I ran to it thinking the MMM ESC gave up on me but I was surprised to see that it wasn't the case. The lights were still on and the ESC was still beeping. When I pickup my truck, I noticed that the tires had some resistance and wasn't free-wheeling when I tried to roll them. I gave it a thorough check and I found out that the motor's rear bearing balls are gone.

Anyway, it sucks being overseas during these times when something breaks. I didn't even attempt to open it up or anything. I just took it out of the truck. I already emailed Tekno so will see what they'll say.

that sucks, hope u get sorted soon.

Dagger Thrasher 02.16.2009 10:14 AM

Ouch, that really sucks. Why not just replace the bearing yourself? Just find out its dimensions, and a new one should just be a press-fit (assuming the endbell screws aren't too tight to undo). It's just a suggestion, but would save a lot of time. An ABEC-3 or above metal-shielded bearing should do the job nicely.

lincpimp 02.16.2009 11:23 AM

Or you can send it to neu, and if it is less than 1 yr old they will fix it for free and mail it back to you. You have an APO addy, IIRC, so there should not be a problem, only time....which sucks. You could pull the rear endbell off and make sure that the rotor has not damaged the windings.

wow trippy, the bawlz just bailed =X

mkrusedc 02.16.2009 12:31 PM

Dang Lito sometimes you have the worst luck. Betcha glad you have other trucks! Good luck.

cembom 02.16.2009 12:41 PM

Wow that sucks. Did you see any of the balls in the truck or hear them rattling in the can?

BrianG 02.16.2009 01:10 PM

The only way anyone will warranty that is if you include all the parts. That means you have to go out and hunt down all the balls.

lol, just kidding!

Takedown 02.16.2009 01:42 PM

Bearing fail. Haha.

suicideneil 02.16.2009 02:11 PM

His balls have finally dropped... out... ouchy.... :mdr:

Takedown 02.16.2009 04:15 PM

Wow, Neil you just took this conversation to far...

George16 02.16.2009 05:09 PM

You guys are hilarious. Yeah, I will have my whole division out in the track today to help me locate my balls :lol:.

Anyway, I was able to contact ImpaktRC and Neu motors this morning since I couldn't sleep after an earthquake struck at 0500 Tuesday morning (an hour ago). The Neu rep told me to send it in and they'll check and repair it as needed. She also told me that they will let me know if it's warranted or not (not warranted for abuse etc). The shaft won't even rotate at all.

I will be down without a Neu motor for at least a month :no:. This is one of the things I don't like being stationed overseas. Oh well. I think I will order the Castle combo :intello::whistle:.

Not a fan of having to chase warranty from afar either. Hope it all gets sorted, but this shouldn't happen on such a high end motor!

Thanks. Unfortunately, it happened.

coolhandcountry 02.17.2009 10:40 AM

Ouch.
I hate when bearings go bad.
I hope the warranty covers it cause from my experience the windings get damaged from this some times :S

bruce750i 02.17.2009 12:17 PM

Bummer!
Your balls are most likely in the motor on the magnet?

Serum 02.19.2009 04:57 PM

Not the place you want them hangin' out..

bruce750i 02.19.2009 05:20 PM

I don't know what is holding the shaft in the center without a bearing holding it? I just can't tell if the rotor is sitting on the windings from these pictures?

To be honest, I don't know. I didn't even bother opening it up. I just boxed it and sent to Neumotor. I ordered a CC 2200Kv combo and I'm hoping to receive it by Friday next week.

George16 03.22.2009 09:15 AM

Update. I received my repaired TeknoRC Neu last Tuesday. It took longer than expected because of the shipping error. The bearings were replaced and a rubber thingy(can't remember the name) was installed on the wires to prevent them chaffing.

I will be installing it either on the Gmaxx or the revo conversion. I'm leaning more towards the Gmaxx.

That sucks Lito....I recently had the same thing happen to my 1512...sent it in to Neu and they fixed it no prob....they are very good w/customer service.

Still being w/out sucks....as you said, you could always buy the castle combo:yes:

And that was exactly what I did, buy a CC combo. I was able to run the CC Neu and so far everything was okay. Too bad today (Sunday) wasrained out. It was okay though since it enabled me to finish up my last research paper :intello::party:.

magman 03.22.2009 10:43 AM

I like the grommets for the wires...slick...I wonder if they will start doing this will all of their motors...hope so

suicideneil 03.23.2009 06:46 PM

I like the grommets too, makes it look much more clean- better than a bit of extra heatshrink tube around the base of the wires.

killajb 03.23.2009 08:40 PM

Lito,

I'm heading to Japan next week and will be there until the 15th of April. I'll be in Tokyo, but don't mind heading to Yokosuka if you guys have some good tracks there.

The good tracks are at least about 3 hours from Yokosuka. The Futaba track in Chiba is nice but it's a pain to go there because of traffic. The track we built onbase needs some attention and I'm hoping people will show up this Saturday so we can fix it.

Let me know if want to visit the base here.
