I got enough money to buy a Medusa motor for my buggy, 70 or 80mm. For some strange reason it is stuck in my head that an 80mm would be a great idea, the thing is it will be used for some racing, maybe i like to live life on the edge?:oops:

If I were in your position I would do the same thing.

even the 70mm is too much for a buggy...

A 60mm will do well in a Buggy, a 70mm will be very powerful (possibly too much). IMO a 70mm wouldn't do very well in a race, you've got more power than the tires can handle and you'll unload the front wheels WHILE pulling a wheelie. I've got an 80mm in my Muggy and despite it's immense size, weight, as well as the big heavy tires it pushes it around like a bath toy. My Hyper 7 TQ has a 70mm in it but it's strictly for street use and easily overpowers my onroad tires despite the soft start on my MGM.

What kind of racing?? For a buggy, I would be more concerned with run times and amp draw. If you can run a smaller motor and achieve the speed you want...as long as its within reason, the amp draw will be less. Mains are sometimes stupid long.

Well, the racing i do is more for fun than it is anything, i'm agreeing that 80mm is most likely too much, but i don't see myself going for anything less than the 70mm.:eyes:

If it was me....1527 1.5D from NEU....hehe. 1500KV...perfect!!! More torque then a tractor!! :gasp:

I run my 1527's...and absolutely LOVE them. Gear it however you want....never get hot...lol

Something wrong with the Medusa?

Not that I know of. Just I've been beating the hell out of the NEU's for a long time....heck I run my 1521 1.5D at almost 100K rpms.....constantly...never had a problem. I have tried many different makes.....none have really impressed me except the NEU's.

I would go the 70mm or 1515. I know that's what I would put in a buggy. I hear people running the 60mm and 1512s and getting some fairly high temps even with fairly cool ambient temps. I would want to be able to run in 100f ambient temps with out the risk of overheating.

I agree. If you have the cash, go for the next size up. If you gear for the same speed and get a comparable kv motor, amp draws will be about the same. I too would rather have a larger can to dissipate the heat than worry about temps when it gets hot outside.

Medusa 60mm motors have been succesfully run in a MT. They are more than adequate for a buggy. Gear for no more than 40 and you should be perfectly fine. Even if a Nitro can achieve more than 40 you'll still smoke'em! Brushless will pull so hard from every corner the nitros don't stand a chance. IMO a 70mm is overkill for a buggy and an 80mm would just be a waste!

The 60mm will even run truggies. Jammin' X1-CRT with 36-60-1600 geared 14/46 (buggy diffs) and 5s 5000mah Lipo. The motor doesn't exceed 160 deg. and tops out near 45mph with excellent performance.
