Scammed!

I sold a RTR losi 8ight buggy on ebay for $430. They guy used the buy it now and paid the same day. The payment went through and was in my paypal. So I ship the buggy. A few days after I shipped the payment was reversed. It said it was a bank reversal. I e-mailed him and he said he would get the money to me. It never happend and now he wont respond to me. I don't know how the payment was reversed, but he got the buggy and even left me positive feedback. Paypal wont do anything! I don't know what to do? What should I do?

I think his ebay is not active anymore.

Here is his info:

Buyer's ID: smoore3338

Buyer's Email: 1badgsxr@bellsouth.net

His address:
STACEY MOORE
2022 EAST ARBOR DR
HUNTSVILLE, AL 35811

lincpimp 03.03.2009 04:08 PM

contact paypal about this. Do you have proof of shipping?

jacobsjo87 03.03.2009 04:14 PM

I did contact them and they said to bad nothing we can do? Even though he left feedback. I don't have the shipping info anymore.

kulangflow 03.03.2009 04:16 PM

Call PayPal again and talk to somebody else. They should be able to do something about this.

suicideneil 03.03.2009 04:20 PM

Shipping info (adress) should be in your paypal account attached to the original transaction. If gaypal wont help, contact the bank- assuming it says where the payment was reversed from/to whatever. Failing that, is there anything like a citizens advice bureau in the states?

jacobsjo87 03.03.2009 04:26 PM

I will call them in a few minutes and see what they have to say this time.

lucias 03.03.2009 05:06 PM

Will paypal do anything if you don't ship it through them?

Jeremy1976 03.03.2009 05:11 PM

What a bad situation sorry to hear man. Hope you get it resolved.

Just today I had a guy cancel a paypal payment on me. It turned out that the item arrived at his door an hour later and so he restored the payment and apologized. Point is..... I'm really not comfortable using Paypal anymore. It's just too easy for a scammer to take your stuff and make you fight for the money. I'd rather just not do the deal at all knowing that there's literally zero security for anyone. I know there are bad buyers as well as bad sellers, so really how can anyone be expected to enforce the rules in a fair way? It really sucks but even computers can't stop a**holes from being a**holes!!!!:diablo:

JThiessen 03.03.2009 06:04 PM

I wasnt even aware that it was possible to pull back a payment.

phildogg 03.03.2009 06:22 PM

I've never heard of this before either.. something to think about..

Creditcard funded paypal account; the payment goes from the card > paypal > other person. If the buyer decided to cancel/reverse, he does it through his bank/creditcard company, so paypal are pretty much powerless to stop him it seems. Thats why people always say to use a credit card to fund purchases, so that if you get ripped off/ item not sent, you can reclaim the money via the credit card if gaypal wont help.

Or some't like that anyway...

jacobsjo87 03.03.2009 08:31 PM

So I called paypal. they said they won't do anything because the buyer claimed that his financial information had been stolen and this purchase was made. So the bank took the money out of my paypal. They said it means nothing that he left positive feedback because the person who stole his info could have created the account. Even though the account had been there for 2 years. So basically he gets his money and I get nothing.

OZ-RUSTLER 03.03.2009 08:43 PM

I just had a look at the buyers feedback and it seem he also scammed someone for $840 a year ago by the same way. How can ebay and paypal allow this? Rethinking about selling on ebay now. Sorry dude.

Find his County of Residence, then find the Courthouse at the County Seat.

Call that Courthouse and ask for the person who takes care of Internet Crimes.

Explain to him what happened and see what they will do for you. They have access to his "records". They can also pay him a visit and do some questioning.

What he has done is a crime and should be treated as such.

You have him where you want him, nailed! But Paypal isn't going to help you. You have to go at this a different way.

It's fraud! No matter how you look at it. He stole from you.

He says someone stole his information? Ummm......how does someone get your credit card AND mysteriously discover the password to your Ebay account? Then put it all together?

Let's be for real!

You have his address yes? Is it the same the guy had on the paypal acct, and what the "stolen from" guy has? You have to get your paypal acct verified, so the "thief" stole this guys info, stole his bank passwords and ebay acct on a 2yr conspiracy to steal a buggy from you? This sounds like complete BS.

I would continue badgering paypal until you get someone who knows what they are talking about (as well as pursue other ave's) and hopefully they can help.

I have a completely seperate checking acct I leave barely no money in just for paypal, and I move any money out of paypal accts and the check acct as soon as possible. Its not perfect, but hopefully if they tried to steal/reverse something, there would be nothing to get. Ebay really sucks sometimes, and they wonder why they are losing revenue.

sikeston34m 03.03.2009 09:41 PM

One other piece of advice. Email the seller that he screwed out of $840 bucks. Get his testimony.

I would bet that he was fed the same story as you.

He got by with it that time, this is why he decided to do it again.

I hope you Stop him and get your money back.

Metallover 03.03.2009 10:09 PM

You should always make sure to keep shipping proof and all the buyers information including your conversations on email. Heck, I even take a picture of the package before I send it. You can never be too safe...

This really sucks. Its a new low. I have been scammed 4 times out of 200 transactions and I'm pretty fed up. I dont use ebay anymore because of this and I only buy from them if its a large hobby store with an incredibly good price and I have a paypal coupon and the deal is that good. Otherwise buyer or seller beware. Even the used stuff I have bought is usually misrepresented by the sellers to get more money. My last RC truck I bought from there had more mudd than truck and they let it sit so long the insides were rusted solid. It cost them 45 bucks to ship that much mudd to me. Unbelievable.

jacobsjo87 03.03.2009 10:32 PM

Thanks for all of the input everyone. I will look up the info for the court sytem in his town and give them a call tomorrow. Hopefully they will help, but I can't help but feel I'm just SOL on this thing.

Yeah, no doubt the scammers are out there. I just hope I can get this thing worked out. I will never sell on ebay again. Like others have stated I only normally buy from power sellers. This is the first time I have ever been burned.

rabosi 03.03.2009 11:25 PM

You could also contact the shipper for their tracking info to check what address it was delivered to.

KaztheMinotaur 03.04.2009 09:30 AM

You need to call the police that serve your area. They can get in touch with the police that serve his area.

feistyacorn 03.04.2009 11:05 AM

What I have done in the past is take a photo of the box before I ship it with the ups tracking number on it. You dont need to ship thru paypal to have them back you. You can enter the tracking number on paypal and they watch it. Once paypal realizes that it has been delivered they release the money to you. I recently sold something on ebay and thought for a second that I was getting screwed, but paypal just put a hold on the money. If the package is delivered, you recieve positive feedback, or it is past 45 days the hold is released and you can get the money. It sucks for sellers, and same with those dam seller fees!

Takedown 03.04.2009 12:25 PM

This is why i trust using money orders more because you cant reverse the payment like on paypal. Plus you can track and insure it.
