team associated tc3

Can you put BL in these things. if nto what would be a really good motor for it so i can push up to 40-50 MPH

Nick 12.30.2005 11:50 AM

They will take a Brushless motor, although not a very big one as the chassis tub would need to be modified, the motor is very close to the central drive shaft.

nbcaznmaster 12.30.2005 11:58 AM

ohhh, i was th8inking about getting a tc3, and dropping a 9L in it for just a lil while. Then i woudl probably get a S motor.

boss 302 12.30.2005 05:38 PM

a brushless motor can fit in a tc3 without to many modifications. a friend of mine put a brushless setup in his and it was like rocket

Nick 12.30.2005 06:41 PM

Yes but only a "s" motor I would imagine, the Ls/XLs are too big.

I had an 11t brushed motor in mine on 7 cells and it was more than enough, just couldn't get any grip at top speeds so was useless having such a fast motor.

Batfish 12.30.2005 06:43 PM

I ran the Novak SS5800 in my TC4 when I had it. No modifications are required for that standard setup.
Going sensorless, however, would require that you measure the space you have in the vehicle and compare to ESC sizes for sensorless ESCs to make sure the one you buy will fit.
Geared conservatively, my TC4 hit 30 easily.

Good luck with it. :)

SpEEdyBL 12.30.2005 08:57 PM

The fastest setup on 6 cells would be a feigao 380c 6t. DO NOT go with the 540 motors. They are slower in 1/10 touring cars and take too long to spool up and draw too many amps. I myself have a 380c 9t on 3s lipo in a xxx4, which cannot be run safely in the street right outside my house. :D

captain harlock 12.30.2005 09:35 PM

I just bolted a lehner 1930/5t in my touring car without any modifications. I'll post pictures as soon as I can. I'll be calling it: Project Bazooka.

Nabors 12.31.2005 10:15 AM

With my old ss5800 on 6 cells my tc3 would go 38mph. So far with my 380c 6t and uforce 75 it has gone 49.6mph on 6 cells I think I can get 55 out of it tho.

My Traxxas bandit with a lehner 5300 hit over 60 mph on 8 cells and was still pulling wheelies. I went 53mph with my Novak SS on 7 cells in the same car. No wheelies with the SS lol.

It is not a touring car but I had it setup like one. I can't imagine a c size motor pushing it much faster but then again I have never tried one. I should be able to get near 60 on just 6 cells if that's the case.

Can you run a c size motor with a warrior 9918? Is 6 cells the max for a c size motor? I may have to try it:) It would certainly lighten the car quite a bit and that is one big key to speed runs.

pcnutz 01.01.2006 11:13 AM

I ran a 1930/5 in my tc3 it fit perfect

It is not about which is faster. Its the time a motor takes to spool up. The C type motors accelerates much faster in a touring car than a 540 size motor when 6 cells pack is used, but the 540 brushless will easily outperform a 380 brushless at higher cell counts, but still, you will feel the smaller accelerates a bit faster than its big bully, though they are incomparable when you take speed as a term of measure.

And how did it perform? how many cells did you use?

pcnutz 01.01.2006 01:55 PM

I ran 6 cells it was too much for TC, so I set it up for oval, I did better but still proved to be to much, also when you put smaller motrs on, you have balance issues. But when it was all said and done, I ragged the tc3 out outside and sold it, it was fast, never clocked it, but it was tons of fun

RC-Monster Mike 01.01.2006 02:12 PM

I run a basic 4200 on 11.1 Lipos in my tc3. It is pretty damn quick and fast! I haven't run against a faster car, actually. No speed measurments, but it needs some leg room or it is a bit tricky to keep in one piece!

captain harlock 01.01.2006 02:32 PM

The 14 cells I got from you Mike will be all used in my Tamiya TB EVO IV MS with the 1930/5. I just sold my T4 to help me cover the costs of my future maxx. My Evo will surely need alot of modifications to tolerate the 1930.

nbcaznmaster 01.01.2006 03:52 PM

i just foudna nice deal on a tc3! i think ima buy it :).

CrazyPhantom 01.01.2006 03:54 PM

Hey, I am currently doing a BL TC3 Project as well. I am running Mtroniks Pro Controller, 2 3100N mah Lipoly packs, and a Feigao 380C 13t motor, I have the project under the Electric forum on this site if you wana check out the progress

Sylvester 01.01.2006 03:54 PM

Nbcaz how much? Any mods on it? :)

captain harlock 01.02.2006 05:29 AM

If I had a TC3 I would have definately modify it using Hardcore racing hybrid chassis, shaft cups, shafts, shock towers, etc....they're no longer in production, though.

Re~Mix 01.02.2006 12:12 PM

If you want to strengthen the diff, run aluminum cases, ti outdrives, nice cvd's and maybe even find some stronger gears.

Rtsbasic 01.03.2006 04:50 PM

With a TC3 you can modify them as much as you want. But you don't need to. As long as you have hardened steel outdrives (most people run them at least in the back, they cost about $8 or so a pair so not exactly expensive), the alloy 4WD shaft & alloy cvds (standard on team/factory team ones) your pretty much set. Once my car had these I never actually broken or damaged anything due to brushless. And the diffs are still silky smooth.

I used to run a Basic 5300 in my TC3, but switched to a 380 9s. This was on 6/7 cell NIMH packs, and the occational 4 cell race (4 cell on a 380 9s is similar to a 27t brushed on 6 cells so this allowed me to race in that class). I've always used Mtroniks controllers.

High speed like 50+mph can make the center shaft start to wobble and possibly snap if your tc3 has the old carbon shaft. My old one never snapped but it was wobbling so much that it has marks on it from the mounting ears on the servo. The AL shafts don’t have this problem afaik

Rtsbasic 01.04.2006 10:16 AM

Thats why I recommended the alloy one. I've actually damaged an alloy one before but I'm not sure if it was accident damage or due to the motor (380 9s on 12 cells, was doing some speed runs). You can also run with plastic diff outdrives, but even on 6 cells I ate these fairly quick.

dunky, nice car. Are those the GPM CF shock towers?

Nabors 01.04.2006 10:44 AM

:o I see where you said that now I read right past that I guess.

Rtsbasic 01.04.2006 10:52 AM

No worries, I guess I could have worded it a bit better :)
