What is your favorite upgrade for crt.5

Well i was wondering what is the single best upgrade you guys can think of.

As i have some extra cash laying around to do something to my crt.5.

I do have rc8 front shocks coming in for the rear of the car.

What else do you guys suggest.

I was thinking of the titanium turnbuckles or something.
Or the cnc knuckles or rear uprights.

I keep breaking the factory plastic shock caps where the mount is.

And rear lower arms. Dont think i am ready for the aluiminum conversion just yet.

Metallover 04.07.2009 10:24 PM

What is your setup? A good lipo is a great upgrade...

boostedg60rado 04.07.2009 10:28 PM

Got the lipo alreqdy I run a maxamps pack and a smc pack I run a mamba max 5700 combo. I am thinking more on the lines of a upgrade for strengh

Arct1k 04.07.2009 10:29 PM

It is an extended chassis with RCBros conversion with a 2s SS Maxamps 4200 battery...

Get the medusa 50mm as the 5700 won't last long... You'll be fine...

boostedg60rado 04.07.2009 10:32 PM

Already ordered that Chris what else should I do.

Arct1k 04.07.2009 10:33 PM

Drive it! When the tires are busted look at some 2.2 truck or proline 30's...

I just upgraded all the turnbuckles to titanium - cost only 20 or so...

Finnster 04.07.2009 10:44 PM

The only real upgrade I did was the cnc chassis braces. I actually bent the chassis once hard enough that it bent the plastic brace and the rear driveshaft.

The BB shocks are a must tho for so many reasons.

Arct1k 04.07.2009 10:51 PM

nitrohouse.com has crt.5 parts cheap

Metallover 04.07.2009 11:02 PM

The proline gladiator 2.2 truck tires are a good choice for the crt .5. The m2 compound is harder... Plan on gearing down a couple teeth due to the larger diameter. But with the addition of the medusa motor, you may not have to gear down any more.

boostedg60rado 04.08.2009 06:13 AM

thanks guys.

As of right now i am running a street setup to learn the car.

Which are proline dirt hawgs, On stock wheels. Handles great and sticks like glue.

Arct1k 04.08.2009 08:02 AM

Get the revo shocks with Jato Springs and pistons for the front...

I saw you had front buggy shocks for rear

boostedg60rado 04.08.2009 08:07 AM

Yea I remember you saying that will have to look into it.

BrianG 04.08.2009 10:17 AM

IMO, a Medusa 36-50-3300 and 3s lipo would be the best upgrade. Then, just upgrade the parts that break or under lots of stress.

snellemin 04.08.2009 10:22 AM

For onroad use and parkinglot races, I made some foam tires.

boostedg60rado 04.08.2009 04:41 PM

Well most of its time will be spent on the dirt track but for learning the car i like messing around on ashpalt. To learn what it can and cant do.

Arct1k 04.08.2009 04:47 PM

Either 2.8 anacondas or buggy anacondas worked ok onroad...

My favorite upgrade for the crt.5 was to replace it with an 1/8 buggy. My hyper8 does everything the .5 did better, and does not weigh that much more. I always thought the .5 was a bit weak in the arm areas. Not going to take a beating like an 1/8 buggy will. Plus if you plan to run a 50mm medusa a 3s with a MM you can go up to a 60mm and a 4s lipo for less than 100 bucks more, and 1/8 buggies are cheaper than the .5 (300 for the kit plus 150 for the rcm chassis and more $$ for 2.2 wheels and tires, etc). Plus 1/8 buggy has stronger everything...

I had the rcm chassis and ran 2.2 gladiators on it. Just my $.02...

boostedg60rado 04.08.2009 06:30 PM

Well i already own a 1/8 buggy and that is not the topic here. I love my crt.5 for its small size and the fact it hauls butt.

Plus there is alot the crt.5 can do that the 1/8 buggy cant like be so nimble and handle the way the .5 does.

boostedg60rado 04.08.2009 06:31 PM

also who would take a 1/8 buggy and run 2.2 wheels that is about the stupidest thing i have ever heard you are better off running the 17mm 1/8 wheels stonger and higher top speeds.

Just my view point man... I mentioned the 2.2 wheels for the crt.5, not the 1/8 buggy. I personally fell that the hyper8 handles better than the crt.5. Mine had a decent 3s setup (hacker c50 8l with a mm and 3s 5000 neu lipo) and was geared for about 45mph. I broke a few things on it that should not have, and I never really drove it hard after that. My hyper (actually had a few 7s and an 8) takes abuse much better and handles the variety of terrain I run on much better than the crt.5 ever did.

But that is just me... My suggestions for the .5 are the rcm chassis, alloy hubs and knuckles, jato front shocks, 1/8 buggy shocks for the rear, and some traxxas 2.2 dish wheels with gladiators. This seemed to be the best setup I found.

Nothing in the RC car world is as strong as a 1/8 buggy. My Losi 8ight takes horendous abuse and just doesn’t break. However, I really like driving my CRT.5 on smaller tracks a lot more than the 8ight. The 8ight is just not as fun or challenging on a 1/10 track. With that in mind I’ve owned 2 completely different CRT.5s.
If you are going to run a lighter 2S system like a Mamba Max and 4600 or a Novak GTB and a 6.5 then keep your car light and use the stock buggy wheels. I’ve run both of those exact systems and they work very well in a stock wheel setup crt.5. Running something like this will require very few if any upgrades for strength. With this setup I run a stock car with spring, piston and oil changes only.
If you are going to run a heavier 3S system like a Mamba Max and Medusa 50x3300 then you might want to go all out in upgrades. My crt.5 setup like this uses 2.2 truck wheels, and RCM extended chassis, lots of aluminum parts upgrades (most important is the servo saver), and 1/8 scale shocks. For additional strength I boil the front and rear arms for 10 – 15 min and use a 4mm upper turnbuckle on the front.

boostedg60rado 04.09.2009 12:00 PM

thanks for the info i messed up ordering the medusa motor. So i got to get that on order again. I will be running a 2s setup while on the track in due time i will be getting a 3s for street use.

Metallover 04.09.2009 04:47 PM

For the track, a good motor like the medusa on 2s will probably be enough. It will be a little lighter and you can have the ability to have more mah available.
