VXL+3s in a Slash?
How well does a Slash motivate with a VXL system on 3s? What speed could you gear it for? I assume that the battery tray is longer in a Slash than a Rustler?
|
Might want to watch the speeds tho. I know the guy's at the hobby shop showed me what a vxl on 3s did in his slash. It was fast as hell but that body acts like a kite and it just blew over everytime.
I'm sure others will say otherwise but thats my experience. |
lol, sounds like Traxxas's new vehicle; the "Traxxas Kite" (part # 9010).
|
i saw a guy get up to 60mph without the body lol. with the body, he could get to 40mph, add a little more throttle and....kite time!
|
im dunning a VXL motor on a MM ESC with a 3s NEU cell.
lets say.......10, 20, 30, 40, 45, AIRBORN. If done carefully, you can get it up in the low 50s....but unikely. Just tap the throttle and the thing is a bit uncontrollable. This is all at 40% punch control. Oyea....watch the tires rip from the wheels too:lol: |
I always thought 30-35 in a slash was more than plenty...anything more than that would seem useless to me...
|
I can see maybe going to a 36-60 if geared especially high for speed runs, but there are much better platforms than a Sail... I mean Slash.

There are ways of keeping a slash on the floor at 60+ even with the shell. Just requires a bit of work. |
If you're going for speed, the lower CG of the Rustler is way better. I agree with the kite statement, it seems 100% true from the vids i've seen. I'd just gear it as low as you can in 32P gears.. Should have tons of torque, great runtime, and decent temps. I'd personally go for a Mamba ESC if you can. They are only 115 new and shipped. IMO worth every penny more.
|
^ +1. Sure, you can mod a Slash to handle high speeds better, but why bother when a Rustler is designed that way from the start? They both are basically the same vehicle otherwise...

.......because this is RC monster and iv learned one thing...JUST DO IT ....hehe in all seriousnes, i just enjoy seeing peoples faces when i gun it |
I haven't set out to create a speed machine, just wanted to know what gearing would be suitabl ffor driveability. What is the length dimension of the batt tray on the slash?

Correct, the Slash will hold 6 cells with the spacer and 7 cells without the spacer; both in side-by-side configuration.
|
I bought the brand new Amsoil edition and ran it BL and hated it. I sold it 2 weeks later and bought a brand new VXL Rustler. I like the Rustler 100 times better!!! I am a basher though. To me the Rustler does everything much better. Jumps, high speed runs, wheelies, drifting. The slash with a BL setup was super unstable as well. I was on my lid a lot. I could of reworked the suspension to make it better but I just lost interest in it. JMO

+1...................
I really don't see the reason people are going crazy over the Slash. It is basically a cross between the Stampede and Rustler, and althought I really like the layout, the performance isn't that good. The VXL models were out for a long time, and no one really was jumping out of their seats for one. Then the Slash comes out, and all the sudden everyone and their mother was going out to buy one... I would love to widen a Rustler though, IMO it would be sweet. Handle similar to a t4 or E-firestorm. |

It would still run a bulky chassis which would need to be trimmed up and the magnum tranny is a brick. Its still going to be a rustler at heart.
|
I like the higher ground clearance of the pede, and the Flat chassis of the Rustler. The Slash combines the two which was kind of cool. there are times I regret selling the Rustler...
When i had it, it seemed like everyone was saying it was a POS. Now that i got rid of it for the Savage, it makes me want it back again... |

Ah, the simple days......
|
The slash is better than the Rustler for the same reason an extended FLM Rustler is better than a normal rustler. It's about an inch longer, which means more stability. A high speed slash requires either modding or removing the body, fitting different wheels and tires and fitting shorter shocks. That's all.

I know the VXL Rusty is good cause i have one:na:, but if i want to run my 3s i need to modify the batt tray to be longer.

My pack is a Neuenergy also, but 3s.
|
I ran an SPC 3s. Good price for the pack IMO. Had to dremmel out some of the chassis for it to fit. A FLM chassis should be able to fit just about any battery type since it's all adjustable. That might only be true with the extended version, don't know.
