First Race day was awesome!

Just got back From Trax70 in Browns Mills NJ, First I must say that the Track was immaculate, no rocks larger then an m3 Nut. If you can follow me- heres the layout of the track..

1. Front strait under the drivers stand
2. 180 degree Right turn
3. Single- tabletop with a lip- then single at the end of that set.
4. 180 degree Left turn
5. short strait with a double.
6. 90 degree right turn
7. Set of huge triples
8. 150 degree right turn
9. Set of 3 whoops
10. 30 degree left turn
11. Short strait away
12. 90 degree left turn
13. 150 degree right turn
15. Set of doubles
16. 150 degree left turn
17 90 degree right turn
18 Big right sweeper to the front strait...

Got there and set up shop out of the back of my car.

Then after about 15 minutes, Mike (eovnu87435ds) realized he left his batteries at home.:surprised: (EPIC FAILURE). So while he went with my dad to go get them, I went and drove a bit.

First time out in practice, I bent the wing mount on my truck pretty good being nervous.. Then i had a problem with my battery... One of the bullets was loose enough to make partial contact with the female bullet inside the battery. and it eventually got hot enough to melt the bottom case of the pack.. After i found out what the problem was I got a new One soldered on and viola.

Then back out to practice again, this time losing a pinion..

Got that out and set the batteries to charge for the first Heat race.. During this heat race I had a solder joint come undone on one of my batteries... That took me the entire race to diagnose the problem- it would cut out and in constantly. Finally found that then fixed the connection and set batteries to charge.

Then the second Main came along.. standing start and I was in the front row. Buzzer sounded and The matrix basically took a big steamy dump on all the nitro burners off the line (while pulling the front wheels). Then on the first set of jumps second place bobbled and stopped the rest of the pack. I led for another lap or two when Hotbodies team driver Fred Perkins and his d8t showed up.. We was wayy smoother then me and was the fastest guy out today. He would pass me over some of the larger jumps except the big triple(we were the only two capable of clearing it consistently) Then tradgedy stuck... my right rear wheel nut decided to dissapear and my wheel flew off... Had to run back to the pit and get another one... When i finally got back on track i was seventh.. and that is where I finished..

Ill let mike tell his side of the story... but his car just was being a PITA

eovnu87435ds 04.26.2009 09:03 PM

PITA is an understatement...

Did you guys meet Khaz? That's where I was drag racing for the first time. After the drag race I drove on the old layout they had of the off-road track. Later I schooled someone in the tri-oval. I'll let you guys know when I'll be there the next time and we car have a little race.

BL_RV0 04.26.2009 10:15 PM

Sounds like an eventful day. Seems like you need to make friends with loctite as welll.

E-Revonut 04.26.2009 11:29 PM

I've been doing shakedown runs for a couple weeks now....My first race is this Thursday. Really haven't had any issues with my RC8T so far, after about 8 packs haven't broke anything or lost anything. Took it out today and got 17 minutes out of my 4500mah 5s RC-M pack. Ambient was about 85 and after the run the motor was at 145*, esc 115*, and Lipo about 105* with a mixture of pavement and heavy grass. When I came in I had to pull all the grass off the axles. May need to stiffen up the center diff but I want a slipperential as soon as the 50t version is available. This truck flies straight and only takes small throttle/brake inputs to level it out. I hope my day goes smooth.

Good luck, its soo much fun! I need a faster charger though...

Finnster 04.27.2009 08:38 AM

Sounds fun, its actually not that far from my house. Maybe 45min. So they are pretty cool w. the BL? Lamo Roar rules?
How are the facilities? Power for chargers and what not?

The track is awesome, If we get another 2 or 3 cars in 8th scale BL we will have our own class. Homemade hot food forsale, along with drinks etc. Had a portapot there and yes there is Power to the track.

Finnster 04.27.2009 12:28 PM

Cool, I may have to try and get there sometime. Hard to find the time, but the other close track is Hobby Hut in Philly. Seems decent enough, but its just a track in the field, and almost no BL people. Dirtrunners is not too far, but I'm not going to go there w/ the lameass Roar lipo rules.

Arct1k 04.27.2009 12:34 PM

It is any hardcase lipo at DR now... There were 9 brushless buggies in their own class...

No one checked the lipos - If you "fully encased" a soft pack I'm sure it would get by.

Takedown 04.27.2009 12:38 PM

Sounds like you had a good time. :)

That may be worth a shot. I'm keeping my 5s packs for sure.

brushlessboy16 04.27.2009 02:57 PM

Trax70 did not check batteries either..

I think everyone is Running Checkerboard Raceway in hammonton this weekend. Ill be there.

Sweet track!

If I had a track near me like that, I would have a camper parked outside the gate for the summer!

What's_nitro? 04.30.2009 08:17 PM

^ Me too!!! :grrrrrr:

brushlessboy16 04.30.2009 08:25 PM

I will just have to live out of the back of my kia sportage

it was soo fun.. But i could really brin down my lap times if i can clear the single-tabletop-sigle in a single bound.. :)

What's_nitro? 04.30.2009 08:27 PM

Take that first turn as wide as possible to keep up your speed and you might have a chance!

squeeforever 04.30.2009 08:38 PM

I just don't get that track...Your supposed to go counter clockwise, and theres WAY to many jumps going away and towards you as well.

nitrostarter 04.30.2009 09:01 PM

I'd have to agree with squee here.... unless you can clear the triple...

Otherwise nice track!!

The track direction is not a standard thing, the the only jump that you cannot see is the one at an angle coming towards you the rest are fine.

Its not that bad, and yes i can clear the triple :)

BL_RV0 04.30.2009 10:52 PM

Got any pics of your truggy after race day?

BP-Revo 04.30.2009 11:05 PM

I think the track is OK. I've raced on a couple tracks where you kind of have to set up for a jump blind and as long as you make sure you aren't coming in super hot (like mid-drift) you can usually pull it off fine.

However, what I don't understand is why the jumps are so steep. You'd have to seriously nail the jumps at a perfect speed or else you are going to miss the (small) landing ramp.

brushlessboy16 05.03.2009 05:00 PM

High res pics... Unfortunately someone rutted the first set of jumps with a quad :( the track builders were pissed. Yesterday at the track we added about 7 or 8 whoops on the short strait before the front strait to slow cars down befor the final corner(the track was starting to get wavy from cars pulling up dirt), fixed the quad damage and just did some general maintenance. then had a bit of practice there were a total of about 5 of us there, so it was pretty fun- got to drive a couple different cars.... Ok ill stop blabbing, here are the pics

Any NJ/PA/DE racers- the official opening day is This upcoming sunday 5/10!

Come on out so we can get an electric 8th scale clas goin!

maxair45 05.03.2009 09:25 PM

Sounds like fun(although you might want to check your solder joints before you hit the track again). I wish I had a track like that near me(closest one is a state over).

The soldering itself is not the problem.. its the bad male bullets.. they keep frying on me. i will probably end up direct soldering into the female's

eovnu87435ds 05.04.2009 07:59 PM

here is a panoramic i took, its a little bit bigger than the other one thats up there. we were there just this past weekend to help with the track. it isnt in the pic, but by next week there will be 7 or 8 whoopdedoos along the last bend before the straightaway to help control the speed so the last corner before the straight doesnt get ripped up, so the starts of the races will be smoother. be paitient with the pic loading, its big

Well I had my first full day of racing. First qualifier I placed 7th, second 4th, qualified 7th for the main. Started out decent and worked my way to first when disaster x2 struck. First I thought I smoked something when it stopped running:gasp: Turned out my pinion came off, and yes it was loktited on. I ran back to the pits and was going to throw another pinion on, when I set it on my table the pinion rolled out ,SWEET, threw it back on and tightened the piss out of it and got back on the track. About two laps later as I approaced the triple I spun out:surprised: Had no idea what happen till I ran out and picked it up. My axle popped out of the drive cup and wedged between the cup and lower arm. That completely took me out of the race:diablo: I have some videos I will post once they load up on youtube.

Nice Track, where is that? :oh:

E-Revonut 05.08.2009 01:53 AM

Video quality sucks, as do my driving skills. I'm def getting better each time I go out on the track.

Round 1

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/d3DzmLnN0QA&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/d3DzmLnN0QA&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Round 2 - really sucked the first lap, after that I didn't do to horrible

sounds like you need to A. grind a flat spot on the shaft(or a bigger one) and B. get some red locktite:lol:

E-Revonut 05.08.2009 09:56 AM

Motoris a Tekno Neu, it came with a flat spot, and I'm not gonna make it bigger. I prefer blue over red loktite as I have stripped many heads on things using red, but mine is a couple years old so I'm just gonna try some new loktite.

brushlessboy16 05.08.2009 10:11 AM

I need to find the correct 2mm driver.. all my allen wrenches keep stripping..

nitrostarter 05.08.2009 10:12 AM

Looks like you had some fun out there!! Once you get some driving skills down, you'll have a strong truck out there! It definitely shines in the acceleration on some of those jumps you were taking!!

A couple basic things:
1. Rhythm on jumps is the key. More time in the air means less time putting power down on the track!
2. try taking turn tighter. focus on entering the corner and coming out as clean and fast as possible.
3. Focus on driving your truck, not what is coming behind you. I noticed a couple times that your driving went down the drain when someone was behind you. I know it sucks to be passed, but focus on making your lap times, especially in heat racing!

Work on just these 3 things will will drop seconds off your lap times! Otherwise looks good! Have fun!

brushlessboy16 05.10.2009 06:59 PM

Just got back from my second track day, it was even better then the first. I ran my Truggy and also eovnu87435ds's Hyper 7 Buggy. Throughout the heat i was plauged with a couple of problems.. most of which could have and should have been avoided.
Motor shifted in the motor mount of the hyper seven the first heat. then kept throwing the batteries from the car. and in the main a bad solder joint failed and ended my round with 1:30 left....:(

My truggy ran well, the first heat I had a kingpin screw come out on me- I continued with the one remaining screw.... I dont know what it was but it made the truck handle better then it would normally. I Put down my fastest lap which was a 35.5sec or so- The leaders were turning 32second laps. Second heat (after fixing the truck) a second king pin fell out and took the front left cvd out of the diff cup and thats what ended my second heat. Upon further inspection of said failure- i came to find that the incedent stressed my front diff to the point of breaking the front bearing holder of the diff case clean off. Luckily I had a spare diff case laying in my toolbox and all the internals swapped right over.. Alright now that the truck is fixed dont touch it untill the main!

Started the mains with my trusty Rcm 5200mah hardcased packs. ran flawlessly for the first 7 minutes of the 15 minute heat. then I noticed the packs were a going a bit flat- not hitting cutoff but i was not able to clear the jumps as easily as I had wanted. So I had My pit man swap packs to my smc 4100s to finish the race. They ran perfect until my truck started clicking and popping under acceleration- It got progressively worse thoughout the main and with 1 minute left in the main I decided to start tip-toeing the truck trying not to hurt anything. I placed 3rd out of 12 (WITH A BATTERY SWAP!) with a wounded truck. I sure had a blast! Anyone in the NJ/De/PA area needs to get out to trax 70!!

Did Khaz go? I told him that you would be going and for him to check out your set up. He wants to get something like my Mugen MBX5T, but I told him there are more affordable options out there. He already has a Savage XL that he might convert.

brushlessboy16 05.10.2009 07:35 PM

I saw someone driving a savage xl but not racing it... Khaz...khaz... the name doesnt ring a bell- what does he look like?

Black guy, knows the owners and I think he'll be the race or track director there. He came by my house Friday to get his ESC and I told him you were going to race and for him to check out your conversion.

In the first vid post 31 at like 2:00 did you use reverse? LOL is that legal?

EDIT: yeah I'm seeing alot of reverse.
