dude that sucks, i hope they cover it
|
I like the flat black of that savage :P
|
My only thought is the fan didn't come on for some reason and it cooked?
I'm noticing 99% of failures are on 6s though, yet to see on on 4s, I think if you're going to 6s, common sense says you go to a smaller pinion. |
Looks like a fet break down - The MMM has thermal protection...
6s, big tires, high gearing, backflips a few are going to smoke - a 1% failure rate means that 1 in a 100 will go pop... |
Sorry to hear and see the devestation, HPI will refer you to Castle take up your ESC issues . If the ESC had a breakdown due to it's own accord they'll replace it free, If they discover it's something user error they should replace it for $70.00.
Good luck. |
Yep lets face it bog stock on 6s it's geared for around 55mph, that's pushing any system to it's limit especially on 6s. Note how most ppl running 6s buggies run 1500-1800kv motors, not 2200!
|
Its not even his controller its just a guy on another forum...
|
Been running mine on 6s with a V2 for a year now with no issues. I don't think 6s is the culprit. I think trying to run 6s on 4s gearing will cause issues though.
|
me too i use only 6 GOOD< cell lipo and no issue at all 9mmmv3 and 1 rx8:whistle:only 3 mmmv3 melt but i really suspect my one years old maxamps pack that ive stop to use after the third meltdown...since ive stop to use it everything goes fine:whip:
sorry for the lost...maybe something wrong in is set-up or is very unlucky....castle will take care for sure:yes: on about 28000 units made(v1+v2+v3)only 540 was returned for faulty bec or meltdown... |

Just read a couple of pages of that thread. So the guy gets a new truck and does not check to see if the screws are tight? Plus he cannot even get the pinion screw tight enough for it to stay on. I guess he is using integy tools, or has weak little accountant hands.
Some of those guys are whiners. That one guy who just throws in the bit about how great his erevo is and that it never breaks. What a tool. I guess I should be happy that I am on this forum and most of us have half a clue about electric. |
Added my thoughts to that thread.
And FreezeByte, you should make it a little clearer that it isnt your truck/esc thats dided when you post a thread like this. No reason for you to be beside yourself really, when noobs & BL mix, bad things often happen- we've been blowing up escs on RCM for years and years and we're far from noobs... :mdr: |

The pinion screw not being tight could also be a major issue as linc stated. I guess I am different from most people. When I have a product fail I look first at everything I may have done wrong or not done and evaluate myself first. I also give the company a chance to help me as well. When my original V1 failed the first time out, I still went over the setup with CC to makes sure there was nothing I could have done differently. I talked with Joe Ford directly via email to verify everything. I also was patient for with them to address the problem since they were in fact addressing it. This all even I after I knew the issue was in fact with the product and not me. |

same here...compared to you guys i'm still a noobie but seems like everyone who has learned a bit on here dont have MMM probs! where as the whiners on the idiot forums (traxxas) and HPI forums (only the whiners...i'm sure they arnt all like that:wink:) always bich about how it' s castles fault that they were stupid and tryed to gear a big truck to the moon and back to get 6000000mph!! anoys me that castle has to sit there and just take it :( shaun |
Now peeps are telling us Flux owners to not even use the stock 20/44 setting for 4S and gear down? Jesus, I might as well have gotten a Stampede if I wanted to go that slow.
|
"First off is there a need to call people names here? I have been in this hobby for probably longer than you have been born. I am far from a noob. Second there is nothing on HPI's web site that says the system in the Savage Flux is a mamba system. Just because they look the same doesn't mean they are. There are plenty of systems out there that have similar motors. Please show where you get your proof they are the same? Third, the truck should not have done this under any circumstances. It should be able to push what ever the manufacturer says. As a matter of fact this guy may in fact have a law suite here if you ask me. My eRevo flips many times top on and off and never has this happened. Also I have never seen anyone on any forum say anything like this has happened to any eRevo. You make so many assumptions in your whole post. Where exactly did you see abusive driving? I will go out on a limb and say that anyone that builds a RC with an esc like these and a motor that pushes 2200 kv would expect nothing less than abuse. What hobby have you been in? That truck should be able to take anything you can toss at it. So my best bet is that when you choose to call us noobs and idiots you were probably looking in a mirror and was referring to yourself NOOB. How about getting that post count up too before you start calling people noobs."
Not condoning you callin him an idiot but I will say he is in trouble now... Get em Neil! LOL |
Drama.

Yeah, more cross forum drama. Seems like we need some rules stating that we are not required to deal with or want any problems from other forums.
So his flux esc died, it happens. Any number or reasons could cause this, from bad esc assembly, 1 bad component, or user error. Posting pics of it here is pretty pointless, if you want castle's input send them an email with the pics. We do not have the whole story, and have no idea how this guy was running the truck so anything we come up with is purely conjecture and completely worthless. As far as the dude not knowing he has a Castle creations product in his flux, well it indicates to me that user error may be cause here. He has apparently no idea what he is using, and no brushless experience (you must be living under a rock if you are unaware that the flux and erbe electronics are CC products). Plus he seems to think that post count has some sort of relationship to knowledge... What a dumb assumption to make. |
I think some responsibility also sits with HPI, the Savage Flux manual and all the advertising literature pretty much invites you to throw a 25t pinion on it and run 6s. Even on the stock 20t pinion, that's a horribly overgeared combination for the Savage Flux.
20/44 is fine, even optimal for 4s, but 6s? I'd be running 15/44 and watching my temps like a hawk! |
Thats a pretty severe meltdown, was he watching smoke roll out from under the body while still driving it ? That kind of damage doesn't happen in just a couple seconds ? Did it stop moving a block down the road and had to give chase ?
|
Yes MM do the same- I've done that with 3 MM's in the past
