Dude, those 5 years were well lived for that motor.... how much would it be for a new rotor?... Bring it back to life!!!

killajb 07.31.2009 10:50 AM

Few come prettier that the Plett (or your truck for that matter), but I think Neu motors will put out more. I'mean, in the end isn't that what guys really want?

good point.

Would be kinda cool if Neu could make you a new rotor.

Candyman2 07.31.2009 12:03 PM

Yup, i paid $380 for that motor back in the day, good grief!

Right i need to find a 1515 1.5y or 2.5d

anyone got one let me know!

Fast5sRevo88 07.31.2009 12:34 PM

Just letting u know i have an almost new Neu 1515 2.5d. Its not for sale though:rofl:

eovnu87435ds 07.31.2009 01:23 PM

So what are you going to do with the plett?

bdebde 07.31.2009 01:41 PM

hmm....... i could get a medusa 36 80 1600kv for that, to be honest the plet was a bit high (2200kv) reving for my setup

mkrusedc 07.31.2009 02:48 PM

Sorry to hear...a sad day. One of the icons is dead.

It is?

Where can one find a new rotor for a Plett?

lincpimp 07.31.2009 04:34 PM

Contact bl-power, he offered to get me one since he is in Germany, and ship it over. Much cheaper than trying to buy directly from plett while you are in the US.

I hope my big maxx stays together, plan to run 5s with it in something...

plettenbergs 07.31.2009 09:21 PM

Mine are holding up fine"for now"...5s2p on one BiGMAXXImum is the shizzle...Candyman did you ever go lipo???

suicideneil 07.31.2009 09:29 PM

Candyman is oldschool, he'll be old and grey before he goes lipo :mdr:

If the magnet is shot, chances are the windings may be a little bit toasted too- open her up and take a peak inside (it'll smell like an ashtray if the insulation on the windings is done for).

If by some miracle the windings are still okay, then a new rotor would be worth while.

Curious as to the esc settings you were using that cooked the PLett- timing, punch and start power can make a big difference to the temps...

JERRY2KONE 07.31.2009 10:38 PM

If

If your thought is that the motor is toast, then why not send it back to Plettenberg and let them do an estimate of referbishing it for you. At least you can give it a try. If the cost is too much for you, then let em keep it.

Candyman2 08.01.2009 04:24 AM

you'll be ok as your running the schulze, I was running 18 cells, so equivalent of 6s, the speedo used to overheat and shutdown after 3/4 minutes if I was pushing it. I got the MMM which didnt shutdown, however I didnt notice the motor temperature, didnt occur to me really.......... i suck. Anyway, im trawling the internet for a 2nd hand Nue failing that i'll have to buy a new nue.

I remember, I downloaded all of your videos back in the days....

I would still say get a rotor... and then sell it or something...

x2 on both statements. MaxxBling is what got me into my maxx obsession

T-Bro 08.01.2009 08:50 AM

Darn that does suck! I just sold my Bigmaxximum for a new Neu motor and no complaints at all!

ANGRY-ALIEN 08.01.2009 10:47 AM

I think the truck deserves a new Bigmaxximum or the new rotor... I just can imagine it with another motor in there. Both the looks and the sound that thing made won't be the same with Neu...
I'm not dissing Neu, but that truck is an icon, which saw many changes and improvements that were made to it over the years and that pletts motor made it look even better.

suicideneil 08.01.2009 11:33 AM

If the windings are toasted too, a new rotor wont do much good on its own, but then the cost to replace both would probably be more than its worth.

I have a question though, what the inside diameter of the can, and the wall thickness (rear endbell area once the fan unit is removed)? It might be possible to bore out the PLett on a lathe and turn it into a heatsink for a 36mm motor, like a neu 1415, lehner or my medusa perhaps...

What a killer idea! Then you could maintain the look like Alien said.

LOL, I was thinking the same thing... :mdr:

Candyman2 08.02.2009 01:25 PM

To be honest with the bigmaxximum at 2150kv it was always a little over geared, I fitted a 56 spur with a 13 pinion but any lower and it tore the teeth off the spur. It will be good to go to a 1515 2.5D 1650kv and have a bit more scope to gear it.

Those would have to be very very poor lipos, and some miracle NiMHs.

Under load, 18 cells is like 5S, if you're lucky.

Candyman2 08.03.2009 04:09 AM

Some NIMH's are crap, i agree, I got some LRP 4600's recently and they didnt hold any sort of voltage under load, but the IB4200's are still the best by miles, they give out huge amps under load. My rule of thumb is, if it'll flip the truck on its roof, it has enough punch.

_paralyzed_ 08.03.2009 06:04 AM

lipos would flip it past the roof back onto its wheels

Candyman2 08.03.2009 08:20 AM

yeh yeh yah.... anyway, does anyone know if Mike is away? I need him to get back to me so he can exchange my hard earned for some New Nue Power :D

Kcaz25 08.03.2009 08:48 AM

Good luck getting up with him. Its seems real hard to this year.

Lipo

emaxxnitro 08.03.2009 09:35 AM

cough * lipo * cough

Candyman2 08.03.2009 02:12 PM

ok i ordered a 1515 smooth can, im thinking i'll turn the bigmaxximum into a heat sink for it :)

nitrostarter 08.03.2009 02:35 PM

I think you should let the monster rest.... But that would look super cool!

suicideneil 08.03.2009 03:15 PM

It will look sweet for sure. If the fan unit doesnt fit, I'll take it off your hands- 5mm shaft is the same as my medusa :yipi:
