Is it possible?

hey,guys

Is it possible to make a savage xl go 60+mph?If so what do i need?

brushlessboy16 08.08.2009 10:46 PM

MMM,

1521 1y or 1527 1.5d

some 6s batteries probably 5000mah 30c or better

some very well balanced tires

Some balls. and a lots of diff parts.

Metallover 08.08.2009 10:52 PM

With money. Lots of it.

aznnboiy 08.08.2009 11:56 PM

so if i had that stuff it would go 60mph+ also ill be using kewshawdiesigns dd

brushlessboy16 08.09.2009 12:02 AM

Geared correctly yes

aznnboiy 08.09.2009 12:50 AM

what kind of gearing should i use?

brushlessboy16 08.09.2009 01:01 AM

with which setup.

there are many out there. theres no real reason why you need a savage xl to go 60.. just a money pit that will suck up more money everytime it gets a little unsettled at 60

david lamontagn 08.09.2009 01:46 AM

With a well moded Picco .28 and the good gearing, you can do that

aznnboiy 08.09.2009 12:01 PM

i would be using kewshawdeisigns direct drive,mmm,1527 1.5d,and MaxAmps Green Series Life 4500 6S2P 19.8V Battery Pack

Finnster 08.09.2009 01:17 PM

That KD DD unit uses plastic gears... I can't imagine it would hold up to what you are proposing. Not sure if its enough batt either..

aznnboiy 08.09.2009 01:44 PM

if i use kewshawdeisigns direct drive,mmm,1527 1.5d,and MaxAmps Green Series Life 4500 6S2P 19.8V Battery Pack will it go 50mph?

it will go faster than you can drive it...

aznnboiy 08.09.2009 02:46 PM

how fast i nedd to know asap:mdr:

brushlessboy16 08.09.2009 03:46 PM

stay away from maxamps

jayjay283 08.09.2009 04:06 PM

maxamps is like going to houstons. Looks good but you can make the same thing at home even better for 1/2 the price. Fat waitresses dont get tips

aznnboiy 08.09.2009 04:55 PM

what are the stock savage xl gear ratios?

Metallover 08.09.2009 05:53 PM

Don't get maxamps. You'll go 35 with that setup until your lipos burn to hell. Get hyperion G3 VX packs. They are the best packs you can buy at the moment, and they're probably cheaper then maxamps.

Another thing, the LiFe chemistry doesn't hold voltage under load nearly as well as lipos. You'll probably be dissapointed with any type of LiFe pack with that setup.

aznnboiy 08.09.2009 06:51 PM

what size is the pinion on a savage xl

23JMZ07 08.09.2009 10:45 PM

Yes,
1 * 600 Foot Cliff Face
100 MPH easy...

aznnboiy 08.09.2009 11:47 PM

still need to know what size pinion is on the savage xl

Here, pinion size an other important info
Perhaps you should slow down a bit and do some research before you go off on an $1000 adventure to try and make Sav XL do 60.

suicideneil 08.10.2009 12:54 PM

Indeed- its no better than buying a FLUX and sticking a pair of 3s lipos in it; without having done lots of prior research into the correct motor/esc/lipo/gearing/tire choice, you just end up with a wheelie machine that smashes into a curb and disintigrates at high speed, thats if the esc doesnt turn into a pyrotechnic device after 5 minutes of being geared way too high.

I would read through all the savage conversion threads on this forum before buying anything.

aznnboiy 08.10.2009 01:34 PM

i might do i same conversion as Janezki but not reverseing the tranny

aznnboiy 08.10.2009 02:26 PM

i came up with:

front/rear gear ratio: 3.3076923076923075
transmission gear ratio: 1.532258064516129
additional gear ratio: 1
spur gear tooth count: 52t
pinion gear tooth count: 18t
total battery voltage: 16.8v 2x 7cells
kv rating of motor: 2200kv
tire diameter: 7.0
tire ballooning: 1.0
current draw in amps: 120
motor resistance: 0.0003

and came up with 67mph??????howww????

aznnboiy 08.11.2009 01:48 AM

can i bolt this on the savage xl motor plate http://www.bluegrooveconcepts.com/ca...oduct_id=29886 or http://www.bluegrooveconcepts.com/ca...oduct_id=29893

suicideneil 08.11.2009 10:33 AM

67mph? Because you put down 7" tires; no one in their right mind would set their truck up for ~70mph using tires that big, nor would they use 14 nimh cells  You wont get to more than about 30-35 before the nimhs explode.

Those motor mounts (BLue Groove = bad copies of Mike's stuff) wont work either probably, different trucks = different layouts.

Again,

http://carlnet.no-ip.org/step-away-internet.jpg

You really need to do a lot more reading-

You either need to make a motor mount like LincPimp (search his threads), or purchase something fom KershawDesigns or FLM (conversion chassis).
You need to run 5-6s lipo, or 16-18 nimh cells with a ~1600-2000kv motor.
You need to be realistic about the speeds you want- the savy is not a good platform for high speed, its too heavy and too tall for anything other than straight line speed runs, and even then it will be prone to getting out of shape- you need a nice low slung revo/ maxx or truggy for going fast.

aznnboiy 08.11.2009 01:12 PM

im going to sell it and get rc8te

suicideneil 08.11.2009 05:47 PM

That would be a better platform

aznnboiy 08.11.2009 06:17 PM

which one is better? rc8e or rc8te

aznnboiy 08.11.2009 08:24 PM

do you guys know if this will fit the savage xl?http://www.rcplanet.com/HPI_Savage_S...p/hpi87245.htm

suicideneil 08.12.2009 06:42 AM

Rc8e = buggy
Rc8te = truggy

Take your pick.

As for the suspension:

rawfuls 08.12.2009 12:30 PM

Honestly, you need to step away from the computer, and think.

Why? Because you're rushing through this way too fast.
A normal person would plan for about a month, then get the money to do it.
I have a feeling this is going to be a opening to RC for you, and a truck going 60mph, at that mass, could probably break your leg if you ram it into you, or even make a dent into a car.

Seriously now, you will need to search, and search, and search for awhile, until you find what you like, that will work.

[/rant]

aznnboiy 08.12.2009 05:32 PM

i didi researching for months i just wanted to get you guys a opinion on what speeds would i get.im curious will these fit the savage xl http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXPCZ5&P=7 before i buy them

suicideneil 08.12.2009 07:18 PM

I dont know what you researched, but it wasnt the right info...

Those are esavage shocks, about as crap as they get really.

You need to read alot more threads about similar conversions- RC-Monster is full of great info & members, but speed should not be your priority, especially if you plan on using nimhs and cheap upgrade parts. I would go back to page one and start from there, then we'll talk to you in a few weeks time- if your questions arent answered by the threads you find, then Im sure more people will answer any sensible questions you have after that.

aznnboiy 08.12.2009 11:14 PM

ok,ill do some more reasearch do you know what speeds i would get with 2x 8 or 9 cell 5000mah nimh
40-45mph?

suicideneil 08.13.2009 05:58 AM

16-18 nimh cells is much more like it for speeds in that region

Heres a cookie:

http://picasaweb.google.com/buikpijn

scarletboa 08.14.2009 04:09 PM

really, if you don't want to implode your wallet, try out the turnigy packs on hobbycity.com.
they are really cheap and are loads better than maxamps. they are actually equal to or better than many of the well-known name brands. the only packs i can think of that are better are any enerland based packs and the hyperion packs.
