Update on my rx-7 "new pics/stuff"
Well Ive got some good news. I got around to buying some hella cool stuff for my rx-7 lately. Bought some new Motegi/Roja 17in rims, 4x100 to 4x114.3 adapters, new goodyear lowpro tires, fixed the smash in the side of the car "prettymuch unnoticable", some interior stuff, changed every fluid, have an ecu tuning chip on the way, new straight exuast with pilot racing ends, new oversized K&N filter on backorder from local auto parts store, refirbishing the engine compartment faded peices. And I just bought a 16gal 5.4cfm compressor and a nice paint gun. "just gotta figure out what color I want it to be". Now I just gotta fix my power steering leak... Its a pinsize hole and ive tried everything from sealent tape to jb welb to seal it but nothing works. I dont want to have to replace the line because ill have to work from behind the oil cooler and ill have to drain the power steering... Well anyways heres the pics.:intello:

Looking good! I think it would look killer in shiny midnight blue...
Now you need that front trim, and to bondo all the random holes in the rear! Is it a 5spd or a automatic... PLEASE 5SPD! |
I love the 2nd gen rx-7's. I like the way the seats feel, and the way they drive. Bang for the buck they are great little sports cars. Not trying to threadjack, but here is my last one, picked up the roller for $500, gxl had cherry leather interior, even a factory cd player that still worked. Of course I dumped a fair amount into it.

Love the rx7's with the v8 motor swaps. Looks killer man. Should run pretty dang good also.

Nice Wheels!!! Takedown
|
very nice!

"just gotta figure out what color I want it to be".
I've never seen a bright yellow RX7 ?? |
those are cool cars I had a friend who had one and a super charger or something that went "pffft" out of the airvent on that passenger side. Always loved rotary engines just would not know how to go about fixing it
|
I think a dark metallic gray would look sweet.
|
Shiny Black, with a matte black rims? Hmm
|
FC is my 2nd choice of car right now, for when I have enough saved up. I check Craigslist almost every day.
So this means I am jealous! |

That's what I was wondering

yea, it was just the stock gxl wing, the car was a 91. and yes again, ls1/t56. I sold the car a couple years ago to buy the lot next door, miss it badly. It had a healthy cam and sounded like a dragster. |

I took it a couple days after I got the swap done, at the time the motor was bone stock, and the chasis was bone stock, ran an 8.38 @93 in the 1/8, on 195/60/15 tires! The time isn't too impressive, but the trap is. I never ran it with the cam, It did make 390hp, and seems like 377ft tq to the wheels @6400. The cam was really made to pull up to 6800-7000, but I didn't have a fuel system that would support it so we left it at that. I was really hoping to hit 400 with what I had. I don't know of anything that bolts to the stock tranny, honestly the swap wasn't that bad. You could swap one of these cars using an lt1 very reasonably, still be fuel injected and dependable, good mpg, and tons of power, sbc mounts, and headers are much cheaper/easier to come by. If you are a ford guy, the 302 is a pretty simple and cost effective swap as well.

Sorry but when it comes to RX7's I am a purist and do not like the V8 swaps. If it was me I would do some searches for 2 and 3 rotor setups. There are several companies out there that will do this for you. You can make a lot of power with the rotaries naturally aspirated which is my preferred method for them as well. The 13b is hell of an engine so don't under estimate it.
If you haven't already get on www.rx7club.com |
It was either do a v8 swap or rebuild my current 13b which now stands at 59k miles. Hmmm...
|
The thing is though even if I rebuild the engine it's still only going to produce 160hp naturally aspired. I would be really happy to be able to get 200hp from it naturally aspired and I'm thinking the 6port method would be the way of achieving this. I really don't know if I feel comfortable running a turbo because I've heard many bad things in how the engine willhave to be rebuilt after 45kmiles. Any ideas?

Takedown, get on the RX7 forum and research. Ask questions, take your time. You can get way more out of that rotary naturally apsirated than 160 hp. I have a friend that was putting over 300 to the ground NA back 10 years ago. In a car that light with a motor that light you are talking some serious power. The torque of the small block conversions cause many issues.
I can tell you the sound out of that 300 hp rotary was a trip, and to see this guy take out vettes and the like was plain hilarious. |

You cant get any help or knowledge without asking. Got to start somewhere.

True

Well bad news... Was gonna go cruise around in the rx7 this morning but it wouldn't start. It turns over fine but won't fire. I've never had this happen before. Tommoro I'm going to go over the probable causes such as the ignition, fuel pump, fuel filter etc... Hope I can figure this out.
|
did you turn the key? lol sorry i had to
|
Of course I did. Haha...
|
it was turning over but no spark huh? could you hear the fuel pump kick on?
|
didn't check anything yet. Will get to all of that tommoro.
|
Check for spark first. Then fuel.
