breaking in

durring a break in of a nitro car do you have to change a spark / glow plug after every break in run???:013:

coolhandcountry 02.15.2006 08:25 PM

I ran the same glow plug for the break in and a little while after. I wouldn't change it unless you are done with break in or it fouls out.

Mike.L 02.15.2006 08:35 PM

so your saying regardless of its engin size and type you dont have to change a spark plug after every run....../glowplug... you dont have to change it afet every tank?

HotnCold 02.15.2006 09:09 PM

Nope - I do all my break ins - At least 6 or 7 tanks, with the same glow plug.

Mike.L 02.16.2006 10:10 AM

ok thanks for the REAL information because i was told WRONG information

Mike.L 02.16.2006 10:19 AM

i was also told that on the 2.5 most commonly on the revo...do you have to change the spark plugs after every break in tank:013: :035:

coolhandcountry 02.16.2006 03:25 PM

on the 2.5 I had I broke it in and ran a few tanks after than on a the same glow plug.

HotnCold 02.16.2006 05:07 PM

For the most part - even after break-in - I, like coolhandcountry, also ran it longer (till I noticed it starting to get harder to start and such....). Why replace it if its not broken...

Basketti 02.16.2006 06:50 PM

thats stupid changing it after every tank, who ever told you that is wrong. Just change it when it dies.

HotnCold 02.16.2006 08:01 PM

I agree..

Mike.L 02.16.2006 08:38 PM

thanks for the info guys

HotnCold 02.16.2006 10:32 PM

pro noblem

E-poweredrc 07.20.2006 01:58 PM

I have 30 runs on my truck and I am using the stock plug, so No you dont have to change it unless it goes bad, Seems like most have to change it during break in cause it goes out.

Procharged5.0 07.20.2006 02:03 PM

I just broke in my new REVO 3.3 6-Tanks and it's still running strong. It's always good to have a spare incase.

squeeforever 07.20.2006 03:22 PM

Yup...Same here. I'm up to 10 tanks or so on mine and its just like new. The 3.3 is a BEAST...

Procharged5.0 07.20.2006 05:17 PM

Squee,

Do you have a Revo 3.3 or a T-Maxx 3.3?

squeeforever 07.20.2006 10:56 PM

Revo. I just got the 3.3 a week ago to replace the old 2.5R.

JOHNNYMAXXIMA 07.21.2006 04:38 AM

Procharged, did I read your sig correctly? Did you replace your Revo's 3.3 with an OS .15?

squeeforever 07.21.2006 11:07 AM

Johnny, I believe it says he has a 3.3 Revo and a T-Maxx with a O.S.

Procharged5.0 07.21.2006 12:25 PM

Nope. The REVO 3.3 is only a couple weeks old and has about 7 tanks run thru it.

The OS MAX CR-V .15 is in the T-Maxx which is for sale.

Mike.L 07.23.2006 10:58 PM

good info guys thanks!

camel_rc 07.24.2006 03:43 PM

I wish I could get that many runs on one plug with my 24.7. That stupid thing has so much compression that I'm changing a plug every 15 tanks or so.

Mike.L 07.24.2006 09:51 PM

1 every 15 tanks your going to have to purchse a whole shoebox full of glow plugs to last you a year! lol. Is your motor new or used and broken in?

squeeforever 07.24.2006 11:33 PM

Camel, maybe try a colder plug?

What does the plug look like when it dies? My plugs are hit or miss depending on the tune of the engine. Too lean or too rich is a sure fire way to kill a plug. I've had a plugs last a half gallon of fuel, while another last only half a tank.

JOHNNYMAXXIMA 09.13.2006 03:39 AM

It's usually running the engine on the lean side that will cause the plug to go (in my experiance anyway). When it does, it's usually the little coil wire inside that burns up. Similar to a light bulb going bad.

squeeforever 09.13.2006 05:06 PM

Yup, I had one that desintedgrated the coil. The coil fell out in my hand...Glad it didn't fall into the engine..

crazyjr 09.13.2006 11:38 PM

On my 3.3, it lasted almost a gallon before the origional plug went south. I'm using an OS LC3 now and its a great plug
