Good bashing tire for truggies?

I'm looking to get some different shoes for my Caster F8T. I almost always bash and rarely run on tracks. The stock tires on the F8T seem like "crimefighter" clones or similar. I want something with more of a lug-type pattern for off-road and short grass, maybe even some pavement running.

What would be some good suggestions to check out?

Proline Badlands are pretty popular

The badlands are great off road, but mine aer terrible for the street. Hit the brakes and its more likely to go sliding than stop. I always like the mashers for all around tire. Prolly still my fav if you are drving off road and on and only want one tire set.

Now are these MT size tires that need different wheels, or can they be stretched a bit to fit on standard truggy wheels? I'd prefer to keep stock truggy wheels if possible.

I assume the main issue is that buggies/truggies are generally racing vehicles, so there's not really a market for off-road bashing tires for standard truggy wheels.

standard truggy wheel is the same as standard MT wheel - 3.2"

however lately most truggies come with LPR style rims that are 3.8"

Yes, the Badlands are a POPULAR choice to be stretched over a set of JConcepts Rulux Half-ups.

Badlands ftw.

Not really- get a whole lot more sidewall for the tire to roll onto.. not good for handling.

hmm, thats an interesting point. i think i may go that route... any others agree?

Bondonutz 09.21.2009 06:19 PM

If a lot of jumping is one of the goals more sidewall is beneficial.

simplechamp 09.21.2009 07:28 PM

The stock Caster F8T wheels are the 3.8" size, and I'd like to keep using those. Sounds like the Badlands stretched to 3.8" will be the way to go. Thanks guys!

Will not be possible to stretch a 3.2" tire over a 3.8" rim//Thats like trying to put a 15" car tire on a 17" rim..Just not possible..

I found that HPI dirtclaws is also very good for bashing and good on just about anything you run it on..Sidewall not that high so still handle okay compared to racing tires..

On my truggy i'm using HPI dirtbones just because its so light weight and have nice sidewall for jumping and bashing. We play on grass most of the time and they work super on grass and hard pack dirt.

RC tires don't have steel belts in them, much more pliable.

JThiessen 09.22.2009 03:13 PM

I'm really liking my stock Savage Flux tires so far. Honestly, I haven't tried them on the 8T yet, but it's on my list of things to try.
They have a good amount of cushion, handle like crap, and balloon too much - but thats what basshing is all about, right!?!??!

I too have Badlands stretched on 3.8's on my revo - but I have issues with them popping the glue bead. Might be because I stretched them, or it could have been my initial glue job.

simplechamp 09.22.2009 04:38 PM

I do have my E-Revo that I could try the 3.8" stretched Badlands on, but once I install all my 8th scale diffs in it I'm switching to 40 series (PL Dirt Hawgs on Axial oversize wheels).

But for the F8T truggy I'm definitely going to try the Badlands.

emaxxnitro 09.22.2009 05:01 PM

personally i like my sidewall. you chip rims with lpr's bashing. no sidewall ... bashing i go for mt sized rims

Andrew32 09.22.2009 10:32 PM

i thought you can only dye certain rims that allow it? im liking the badlands on black rulux

Most white nylon-based rims can be dyed. Ones that have the fake chrome finishes generally do not take dying well (boiling water wrecks chrome finish). RPM chrome rims can be dyed however, check out their website to see some awesome examples of dyed chrome and tips for dying chrome rims.

im diffidently thread jacking but another question about the rulux half up/badlands combo

I got em and MAN are they hard to put on. It seems the foam does not get evenly distributed and spots on the sidewall seem......flat....is it normal? will running help get the foam to sit?

also.....i forgot to take em.....how important you guys think taping willl be in this combo since its already stretched
