First I have made this motor shaft... it's just got one end too thin... the end that will be bolted with motor shaft... as it 's just too thin.. it wouldnt fit a screw..inside.....so i wasted my time... but gained myself lathe skill

BL_RV0 09.28.2009 10:17 AM

That's great man... I wanna do a 1/5 now!!!

nitrostarter 09.28.2009 11:35 AM

Good luck with those A123's and that Neu... I think LiPo's would be the key choice here...

zeropointbug 09.29.2009 03:22 AM

30 genuine M1 cells will provide plenty of power for that 2215... and personally, I think I would use A123's for a large vehicle like that as well.

suicideneil 09.29.2009 04:48 PM

Nothing wrong with A123s for 1/5 scale- plenty of room on that chassis for a 2p setup.

Awesome looking rig there, especially the bizzare rear suspension- any pics from the rear to get a better look at it?

Nice lathe work too- that shaft should work out fine so long as the motor is mounted at a perfect right angle to the chassis- dont want to introduce any flex to the shaft, as the pinion will wobble like heck and snap the shaft/ destroy the bearing. You knew that already though...

aqwut 09.29.2009 05:32 PM

I think that motor's KV is a bit much for that ESC if running on 12S... unless you gear the car down.. What gearing are you planning on using?.. Project looks great man! that shaft, coupler idea is awesome.. Similar to what I have for my Rampage.. Great Job...

What's_nitro? 09.29.2009 07:21 PM

That's aweswome! Someone buy all my stuff so I can build one!!

zeropointbug 09.29.2009 11:03 PM

The quality on that thing just looks simply outstanding.

Are you planning on running a 10s3p pack? That's 30krpm, sounds pretty powerful though, maybe too much for 2wd? Can you get the 1/5's on-roads in 4wd?

He should be safe to run it, if he could gear it low enough.... Else, I'm just worried about the ESC...

sujuara 10.01.2009 05:51 AM

thanks for all yr replies n ideas...

by the way... plz dont upset those A123 fans... i know they getting crowded now..... thinking of the advantages of A123 b4 blaming them......

I think im gonna run motor with 12s of A123 coz :

A123 got 3.3V/cell so ... 3.3V x 12 = 39.6V....

while the motor can get up to i think..42v ... would be safe enough...

and the power from 12s A123 will be roughly.... 40v x 70A = 2800 W... with those 24t pinion and 41t spur... well... ...the car will be spinning around....

And with the motor mount... i think the 6mm thick L bracket would be kul enough to handle the motor... 1 side of L brac... will be mounted directly to the chassis,..and the other side will be mounted together with the clutch holder and side chassis.... and finally with the other end of motor.... i think im gonna use 2...3.. of 6mm thick acrylic..to hold up the motor... that be kul.....

4wd conversion:... i think i can do that.... if i got complete rear ends....

1 of my bros..working in materials department for CSIRO Melbourne... he can supplies me free Magnesium plate..at.... any sizes..any thickness... with these ... i can modify and convert them to 4wd on rd.. but this will be later...

by the way... just let u guys know that... it was really lucky for me that.. the Neu motor for Aud $400 and car kit... just only Aud $500 ....,.. i bought them off ebay au... never though i would win the auctions... but i DID win....

jas21373 10.01.2009 08:16 AM

With front hydro brakes fitted this thing will lay some serious rubber........WooHoo...

TexasSP 10.01.2009 11:55 AM

Looks nice so far. What are you going to do as far as motor supports?

Damn, I'll have to watch the video when I get home, work PC is a piece of shite and wont play flash videos.

Looking awesome though, but Im a bit dubious about the hobbywing esc- let us know how it performs for you

zeropointbug 10.25.2009 02:54 PM

I didn't know you were going to use a Hobbywing esc... can't see it lasting too long. I would contact Lutach and get his HV esc, should do a much better job at throwing that car around.

BTW, as far as the power calcs go, each cell can do 2.8v/cell @ 70 amps typically. So whatever size pack you are using, use those specs as a base line when calculating how many cells you want to use.

BL_RV0 10.25.2009 06:31 PM

Just to be redundant- that HW ESC isn't going to do well at all. Maybe give the new turnigy monster-2000 a try? That would work oh-so nicely.

If it has the same throttle and brake response as the car ESC the manufacturer sent me, he will be one pissed of person.

sujuara 10.26.2009 03:46 AM

Hey guys... dont be so ... **?/...

My mate got his Serpent 960 converted to brushless... he used other 240A ESc..(which cost him 400 buck)..and get his brushless 960 up to 104kph....

with the same set up... but dif. ESc.. (this time Hobbywing EZrun 150A)....his car now up to 134kph... brake..perfectly...

But anyway.... first i will try with this HW ESC and 6s A123... next It will be with 12S A123 n 12S aircraft ESc... and then with 6s Lipo and 10S lipo...for sure...will keep u guys posted

suicideneil 10.26.2009 10:42 AM

We're not being cocks deliberately, just being cautious about the esc- it works great when it works, but the failure rate is higher compared to the MMM from what I've seen.

sujuara 10.30.2009 09:04 PM

conversion completed.... hope it's not raining this weekend... im not worried about ESC brake failure.. coz im gonna use car own brake... as later on im gonna run that with 12S power pack and 12S aircraft ESC... and 12s ESC doesnt have brake.... car mech brake...always my 1st choice...

sujuara 11.01.2009 03:53 AM

Car up to 67kph max with fully charged A123 - 6S...

Good looking project there. what do you think of the 2wd? i had a 1/5 Smartech 2wd on rd i just started to tear down to convert last week but i ended up selling it on ebay just 2 days ago. i decided to wait and do a different conversion with 4wd.
your build looks clean though. great work. keep us posted on performance specs as you add/change betteries and esc. 67kph isnt very fast for a brushless 1/5 on road. i would think about 105kph (=65mph) would be ideal. i am sure you wont have a problem hitting that speed with the right batteries and esc setup. keep it up.

I want one, it looks so fun to drive on tarmac; doesnt want to do barrel rolls when you pitch it into a turn like my Gmaxx does...
