will try to give a review later tonight

Bondonutz 10.03.2009 07:09 PM

Looks great, my only beef with it and it's the main reason why I didn't buy one;

The servo needs to be moved to the left side and the motor on the right and it would be much better ? But the diffs would need clocked somehow ?
Curious to hear how you like it and how it handles, Good Luck and have Fun .

emaxxnitro 10.03.2009 07:37 PM

other than the novak fan missing a fin .... it looks great!

cornolio 10.04.2009 01:53 PM

im not feeling too good about the battery clearances so i didnt go yesterday.i just put 2 layers of double sided tape between the pinion and lipo hoping it'll do.the lipos move around no matter how hard i velcro it.i didnt think i'd have problems using standard size lipos:grrrrrr::grrrrrr:

ill be going to the track later

bdebde 10.04.2009 03:21 PM

I won't be going to the track with mine today, missing a body mount (thanks HB), so would like to hear how it goes. I used a couple of Losi straps on the battery as I didn't like the ones that came in the kit.

cornolio 10.05.2009 02:49 AM

it was way better than i expected!!
the "out of balance" issue is absolutely not true(doubted it myself)

heres a video i just uploaded

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_URe6jA5eo

the whole set up is box stock,so it still needs minor tweaking.
everybody feel free to share your suggestions, personally,i want more off power steering and i cant throw the rear around.thanks

Bondonutz 10.05.2009 08:27 AM

Looked like it was doing what it needed to on the track, flew well over the jumps.
Glad your happy with it.

I must say I don't care for the pinion/battery closeness, hope it never causes any problems for you.

GO-RIDE.com 10.05.2009 08:30 PM

Some what of a ground breaking car with a plastic chassis on a 1/8. A buddy of mine just got one, but I haven't seen it yet. For me the 140mm lipo length is a problem for to my existing lipos. I see a Hyper 9e or Losi 2.0e in my future.

EDIT: Just watched some of your vid. If you want a 1/8 buggy to swing more on a 1/10 track try a softer swaybar in the front. If still not enough add a stiffer swaybar to the rear, or even try removing the swaybar from the front. The best thing about trying diff swaybars is that it only takes a about 1 min to swap and try something else.

bdebde 10.05.2009 08:56 PM

Boy, it looks good in the vid. Can't wait to try mine out!

How much does yours weigh?

gixxer 10.06.2009 03:42 AM

looks good. if I didn't already buy a hyper 9e this summer I would be picking up one of these. i will probably still buy the body though, cause the hyper needs something narrower.

cornolio 10.12.2009 01:28 AM

OMG!!! my worst fear

PLS TAKE NOTE THAT THIS ISNT MINE.SAW IT FROM RCTECH

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a76...g?t=1255325029

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a76...g?t=1255325068

the owner said it was quite cold.anyway, its just gonna cost him around 15 bucks and 5 mins.but still....

im gonna order spare skids tonight:whistle:

stum 10.12.2009 07:59 AM

I'll stick w/ the losi 8ight-e (1.0 or 2.0) - No plastic chassis for me pls expecially w/ two parts on the front.. that will be snapping a LOT, Need longer batt trays and good lord why wouldn't they design the layout so the batts were not on top of the pinion! OUCH! At least a battery tray guard that would come up and block it. iMO the motor and ESC should have been swapped.. Guess these guys won't be running the nicer 35c Hyperion g3 batts.

Bondonutz 10.12.2009 09:15 AM

The F&R skid plates are 18.00 each + S&H, the chassis where the lock nuts are the front skid screws go up into, the molded plastic is broken them also (Chassis is damaged).
To bad, glad I didn'y buy one. There will be no running them even indoors in the winter for those Northern boys ?

bdebde 10.12.2009 09:52 AM

Maybe I will order up a Techno chassis now... just in case.

cornolio 10.12.2009 12:56 PM

F/R skid plates: $13.75
http://images.amainhobbies.com/image...e/hbs67545.jpg
steering brace:$3.89
http://images.amainhobbies.com/image...e/hbs67400.jpg

ill stick with the composite coz thats the point in getting the ve8:yes:

aluminium is $15.49
http://images.amainhobbies.com/image...e/hbs67580.jpg

if you see a ve8 on your local track maybe youll be sorry you didnt get one.:lol
everybody who got it got significantly reduced laptimes.just saying
i havent touched any of my other RC since i got it.ive had a lot of nasty crashes and still no damage

cornolio 10.12.2009 12:59 PM

only negatives for me are:

1) limited battery choices

2)steering slop.it has more slop than my 1 1/2 yr old xray.but already fixed it with a couple of shims
king pin, hinge pin, steering post and oring on outdrives

The skids are cheaper than I seen them when first released, thats good because I thought that was pretty high.
I'll stick with my Hyper 9E,I'm VERY pleased with it. I'm not good enough to worry weither my lap times will be shorter with a different buggy anyway.

cornolio 10.12.2009 01:43 PM

i was actually about to get the hyper9e before these came out and the new features/layout made me curious.

if i get rid of some of my other cars ill still probably get the hyper too:whistle:

I guess it depends on what they were driving before in relation to lap time increases... This new buggy sports the extra wide tires as well, which as we all know can make or break you in a race. I have no doubt it handles decent, but when I start seeing it beating some folks w/ talent that are running 8ight's I'll be a bit more convinced. I will give it one thing.. with coupons it's CHEAP for a 1/8 brushless setup.

cornolio 10.15.2009 03:14 PM

i need some opinions on my situation:

i recently started running it hard on a small track(10th scale)
i started noticing that my packs only charged from 2500 to 2700mah.
i only get 14 mins with a 15 pinion,geared for 42mph
and 11mins with 1 a 13t pinion,geared for 37mph.the temps are fine
and is topping out at 135 on the motor but it is cooler with the 15 t pinion.
it starts cogging at the 11 and 14 min mark and just thought that it was the LVC.im just wondering why it wont use up all the charge on the batteries.very confused

set up:

novak HV maxx 6.5
4s trakpower 5400
4s peak racing 4800
AKA gridirons

himalaya 10.16.2009 02:25 AM

Larger pack(150mm and over) not allowed?
Battery COG adjustment not allowed?
All heavy things(Motor and batt) on left side?
..... just wondering what the designers were thinking about. Maybe just to be coming out with a differenciated product.

cornolio 10.17.2009 01:33 AM

OMG .....:)
That's some serious criticism when obviously, you haven't seen one run
wait til you see one on the track.or you can read a lot of good experiences with it on other sites.I'm not saying it's the best.but it sure is great
Don't knock it til you try it:)

Frank H 12.22.2009 05:09 PM

Im loving the Ve8. All the 'heavy' components on the left side isnt much of an issue since its very close to centerline, and the servo's and esc are pushed farther right. The suspension handles great! One thing I dislike is the fact that the Neu/Castle 2650 motor shaft sticks out into the battery tray. I glued some stiff foam to keep my batteries back towards the back. I use Elite 5000mah 4s and they have a half inch of room to spare in the 'small battery tray.' I just finished tweaking some camber and toe settings and will give it a run here when my TX batteries finish charging. I also changed some ESC settings as I noticed the car was noticeable slower than my RC8 with the same components. Maybe its the gearing, as Im running 16/50 (geared for ~35MPH).

Ve8 uses truggy style high ratio diff gears, your have to gear to compensate.:sarcastic:

Frank H 12.22.2009 07:33 PM

I thought the RC8 uses high ratio diffs also. Thanks for the info tho.

I tried a 19 tooth today and still could not clear a jump that the RC8e would clear easy - using the exact same motor and batteries. Only changed the ESC from a MMM to a Flux which I thought would be the same since its settings are identicle.

bdebde 12.22.2009 11:08 PM

I use one of THESE to keep the motor shaft out of the battery area in my Ve8.

rchippie 12.27.2009 11:06 PM

I must say at the first time i saw pics of these buggy i was a little spectical . But i saw one at the track today . All i can say is WOW :surprised:. I was very impressed with the car . It was probably the fastest e-buggy on the track . If i get another buggy this could be the one i get . The limited battery choices could be a issue thou .

Frank H 12.28.2009 01:40 AM

I solved my slow Ve8 problem! It was the flux ESC. I swapped it out with the MMM esc from the RC8e and it now skies the huge tripple on my track. Had no problem skying the huge triple at Downtowns 8th Wonder in Barona today. The Ve8 is awesome! I managed to snap a turnbuckle end (plastic piece thats $0.50 each (8 for $4)).. but I don't blame the car - I landed wrong HARD!

rchippie 12.28.2009 03:27 PM

Which of the 40c hard case lipo's from HC will fit this buggy ?.

For those who have the VE8 what is there flightmax hard case lipoe that will fit ?.

Any of the ones that are 137mm long would fit.

BDEBDE
I read somewere up to 150mm i think . I know the thunderpower 4s 500- HC fits . But they are not as wide as the flightmax . I just measured the tray. I got the following 140mmx 49mm. But there is small bumps that can be fieled out to get a 50mm width pack. So depending how accurete the flightmaxx measurments are .

Here are the first pics.

FastXR 12.29.2009 10:07 PM

Thats great thank very much :yipi:. I dont see any hobby city battery's listed .

Frank H 12.29.2009 10:40 PM

Ya thanks FastXR! Great info!

bdebde 12.29.2009 11:17 PM

Hyperion 2950vx, 3300vx and 3300cx should work as well, especially if going 5s or 6s.

FastXR 12.29.2009 11:20 PM

No problem guys, I can't take any credit just plagiarized another site LOL

Sorry there was no listing for H/C lipos that fit. but if you stick in the dimensions listed (140mmx50mm) you should be good, use the handy lipo filter function for the # of cells you want and it will give you a nice list, just look thru for one that fits. Failing that have a look at the ve8 thread on RCTech someone probably lists one that fits. Good luck.

Im going the 6s with a 1400kv tekin and MMP myself it should be a really efficient setup and have great run times.

Somehow those look very familiar...

Did you guys figure out what the little tabs with 2 holes each on the back side of the rear hubs are for?

I was told they are for wheel scrapers, used in muddy conditions so dirt wont build up on inside of the wheel.
