What truggy to build.
Hey guys im a new comer to the electric side of things. ive been into nitro savages up until the flux came out. Since i got it ive been steady on it and love it, the two nitro savages get very little usage now. the thing is i want to do a new brushless build. However my question is what truggy matches up to my motor and esc i already have.
I have a spare Flux motor and ESC that i bought. The Flux Tork 2200 and Blur ESC. I bought them because i was going to build a new Flux but i figured maybe i would branch my horizons off from the savage. I got to looking at truggys and found a few i like. the Mugen MBX6T was one and the RC8T was another. i saw this http://www.teknorc.com/index.php and noticed they have some nice kits. the thing is im new to BL and dont want to dump a ton of money into something that wont work out in the end. A few questions i have is what truggy would you guys recommend i use for the 2200kv motor and ESC i have? is the Tekno a good system to invest in? should truggys be ran on 4s? or 5s? is there anything out of the ordinary i may need to make this work all together? heres the combo i have already although i sure many of you already know. http://www.hpiracing.com/graphics/ki...lur_n_Tork.jpg thanks in advance for your help guys, greatly appreciated to get me going in the bl direction. |
mbx6t with mikes mount and battery tray, 6S lipos seems perfect! and looks beautiful: http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...=rcmmbx6tsckit

That kit does look nice as well. thanks for the link. i think its great there are kits out there available to convert these trucks for real power. next question is can a 6s battery fit in either of these set ups even? Also can a truggy handle 6s power? i want to set this up for racing in the future so i don't want uncontrollable power. i want usable.

6S is meant to keep temps low. Just pair it with the right motor and you'll be fine! Pretty sure a 6S will fit a truggy!
If you think you have too much power just lower the radio EPA! |
That tork motor is 2200kv, don't pay any attention to what the above statements were... that motor is 4s max out on the track, even geared down as much as possible 5s lipo is too much. 4s w/ conservitive gearing (38-40) and you will be in nice shape for basihng or racing. With a 4s setup in a truggy you can get away w/ the SMC 9k lipo's too if you wanted for long a-mains.

Well you were asking about a mbx-5T so here is mine I recently finished...
I am running a cc/neu 2200kv w/mmm esc on 5s. This is the second Mugen I own and have converted...they are built like tanks http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...e/DSC02943.jpg http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...e/DSC02947.jpg http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...e/DSC02944.jpg http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...e/DSC02945.jpg |

Almost forgot, the esc. mount is this one....just drill 3 small holes and countersink the ends and you are done. The mmm sits perfectly on it. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXVEC2&P=7 Here is a so so pic of the esc w/that mount.... http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...e/DSC02946.jpg |

If you go with tekno they have mounts to fit pretty much anything 40mm fit novaks 42mm fits castle and tekins 44mm fits nue's.

He asked for opinions, and i gave mine. Never said this is absolute truth. Nor yours. I used 6S on a truggy with success, and just wanted to share the recipe. |
have you seen the xray XT8? its another top dog when it comes to quality i have one and its beast

im not saying that the MBX5t is the for sure it will all depend on the roller i find first that appeals to me and has a good base to build off. id say, Xray Losi 8ight t MBX5t mbx6t rc8t are all in contention at the moment. Any one have one for sale? |
i got my xt8 for about 200$
watch rc tech closely mike has a motor mount for xrays http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...d=rcmxraymount |
ya i just checked the monster store and saw that mount. If thats mikes work he does great quality. I will have to inquire to see if it will work with the tork motor not. i also found this
http://cgi.ebay.ca/x-ray-xray-x-ray-...d=p3286.c0.m14 i guess its not out of the running quite yet. you don't happen to have a few shots of yours do you to show how you went about the conversion? keep the info coming fellas this is great. |
If you go Mugen, Losi, or Xray I dont think you will be disapointed. I have a Losi 8ight T and have to say the conversion mount from Losi is pretty slick. I also agree with Stum that if you are racing you wont need any more then 4s.
I have ran Losi 8b and 8T and had a blast with them. I also will say the SC8-e was fun but has its place. Now I am moving into the luxury department with Xray rigs and all I can say is "wow" over the quality. I was so impressed with my first xray the XB8 that I bought a XB808 and XT8 with a buch of stuff I am selling off. I also have to say that Mikes work on his mounts are amazing and the quality fits the Xray very nicely. You can see my xb808 build thread in the truggy section if you like it has a really nice 3 piece mount. IMO also if you racing a buggy is much more nimble and easier to get the hang of. Here is my latest build that I got yesterday.....saving for mikes mount now. http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e1...ract/034-5.jpg side by side to the 8ight T http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e1...ract/045-2.jpg Now the 8ight is for sale on RC Tech LOL these are pictures from today. http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e1...ract/019-8.jpg Good luck in your adventure!! |
Here are some old shots of my tekno 8ight-t

i can get shots of mine tonight. all you need is a roller, mike's motor mount, and mike's battery tray. and motor, esc, and servo of course. super easy, and looks like it came that way out of the box. no need to custom make anything - just put it all together. |
Here's my 6T. I would go Mugen. Real balanced. It handles way better than my old 5T (got a 5T roller - real cheap).
RCM motor mount | 2 x 2S in a series | RCM Slipperential | Tekin RX8 2000. http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...g?t=1254838403 http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...g?t=1254838551 http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...g?t=1254838584 |
Gotta luv the body on the new Mugen Truggy. Awesome!!

Tedo i think a 6t would be great but for being my first truggy i think that a 5t will amaze me compared to how my savages handle. plus brushless power in a smaller package should be fun. Desert Rc that losi is a sweet package. the price is just a little high for me (although i looked around and your price is definitely fair, dont get me wrong) but for an entry trug im looking for a budget mobile kinda. spend the money where i have to and hopefully pick up a good platform for cheap:smile: |

very nice. the xray does see to be a quality name every where i look and that build shows it. unfortunately i think there temporarily out of my price range. if i get serious about these truggies then bad things will happen (financially) but for now this is a feeler out build.:mdr:

just curious what your guys thoughts are on these batteries for my set up?
http://www.ehobbies.com/sum5440sc.html would these be good for my planned set up of 2200kv? they seem to be really good and smc carries a great name. |
