Wow, but not good......

Ok so I'm running my Maxx, towards the end of my run it flips over and some how breaks my fan on my controller. So I save it and try to fix my fan but I cant so I take the fan off. Today I run it without the fan today and WOW. Towards the end off the run I guess it started thernalling. But the oddest thing happened when it did. I was doing speed runs up and down my street. I was making a pass and all of a sudden it was like a 200 shot of nitrous. I'm rolling at 33ish mph and when it kicked in it flipped over and slid on its shell. I think I finally saw what 40+ mph is. And then it thermalled. It came back and ran 33ish and then hit the nitrous again for a second or 2 and when I stopped it thermalled, I knew something was wrong. I got it and temp gunned everything. I think I need to drop down to 16.51 for sure. ESC was at 200. I almost cried.

Needless to say I'm running 18/51 and its doing this so I think I need to drop down. Also, why would it boost up in power like that before it thermals? I want this speed all the time. I think my ESC is in a boat program because its only Forward and Reverse, no brakes. Would this affect the overall power output? I dont know much about controllers so I'm asking. I guess I'm going to have to get that programmer now.

Any input or suggestions, feel free to compliment.....

Sounds odd. What controller are you running? 18/51 is quite a high gearing and will need a high turn motor and powerful controller to handle it. Perhaps that sudden power boost is a result of the very high temps - 200F is extremely hot for a controller, your lucky it didn't blow up!

squeeforever 02.26.2006 11:29 AM

yea, go for the the 16. i run 20/51 with a 10XL on 16 cells. for a 7XL, 18 is way to high.

nitrostarter 02.26.2006 12:15 PM

I run the micro 18120. I know this sucker was hot, the shrink wrap shrank some more.:005: When I had the fan on it, it ran 130-140. W/o it spiked to 200.

I dont know but It just doesnt seem like its going as fast as it should. Radared at 33mph with the 18. I might just go ahead and buy another controller and see, or the programming link.

Are you guys sure there's no way to change programs without the link? Or doesn anyone have it and would like to do it for me? :007:

I put the 16 on there to try out, I'll report back with my findings.

How many cells are you running?

Seems like you may not be getting full throttle, this boost could be a glitch giving you full throttle for a change.

squeeforever 02.26.2006 12:37 PM

yea, check your radio and see if its got 100% epa. also, try and reprogram the controller. your might have not held the throttle all the way down when you programmed it.

nitrostarter 02.26.2006 01:01 PM

I made sure I squeezed the trigger tight when I programmed it but I didnt worry about the EPA. I think I need to check that out.

coolhandcountry 02.26.2006 01:05 PM

The sudden burst don't sound like it is running like it should. When I started using a ubec it seemed as if my truck had more power and ran faster as well. your timing could be off or it could be on the wrong parameters.

Gustav 02.26.2006 01:10 PM

How many cells? and std or ue diffs?then we'll be able to say what speed it should be hitting on good cells.

Seems like the reason for the high temps may be that it's overgeared to compensate for only getting partial throttle.eg 7xl,14 cells,3.3:1 diffs on 18/51 is around 38mph.(44mph on stock diffs)

nitrostarter 02.26.2006 01:17 PM

16 cells, UE diffs, 16/51 now, 40 series Road Rage.

I use a Rx pack also.

I don't know, its just pretty depressing to see all 4 tires(standard bowties) balloon like saw blades only 1 time when I'm about to thermal.....

Gustav 02.26.2006 01:27 PM

Do you have the BK programming cable? maybe the timing could cause this?

I'd reprogram the controller with the epa 100% and the trims at 0.

seems a few mph short at 33mph(was that on 18/51?) but could just be voltage drop of the cells.

nitrostarter 02.26.2006 03:04 PM

:005: :005: :005:

I can't keep it in :020: . I just tried the 16/51 16cells, and I like the squirrelly driving caused by the excessive ballooning of standard size Bowties. Fellas, this is how its supposed to be(i think). She rolls like a batt out of hell and temps are down. I reprogrammed it and put the 16T on. I'm ready to radar it now. Going half throttle and nailing it will send her sliding on the body.

maxxdude1234 02.26.2006 03:06 PM

Good to hear nitro....:)

boss 302 02.26.2006 04:34 PM

its good to hear that the temps are down and that it is running better

nitrostarter 02.26.2006 04:38 PM

Yep but I might have another problem. When I ran it, the runtime seemed really low, like 5-7 minutes. When I drove it close to me, I can here a sizzling type noise, or like air was being released, I didnt know what it was. Took my batts off to go charge them earlier and there's what looks like battery acid on 1 of the cells and now Im having trouble charging it, looks like the cell might have died maybe?

MetalMan 02.26.2006 04:43 PM

When was the last time you used the batteries before this? If it's been a while, then they probably just need a couple of cycles to wake up.

maxxdude1234 02.26.2006 05:03 PM

Sounds like the batteries are starting to leak nitrostarter. Think it might be time for a new set of batts!

crazyjr 02.26.2006 05:14 PM

I just had that same problem with a battery, only i didn't see acid coming out. It was a psht sound and the cells never charged. Come to find out i vented a couple of cells

nitrostarter 02.26.2006 05:47 PM

Well I just got these packs maybe, at the most, 2 weeks old. It would start to charge and then quit after maybe a minute. I kept trying but it kept doing the same thing. The odd thing is that both 8 cell pack show about the same peaked voltage, not like something is wrong.

maxxdude1234 02.26.2006 05:48 PM

Could be a dodgy connection. Have you checked them over fully?

nitrostarter 02.26.2006 05:51 PM

Yep, checked them. Solid solder connections.

maxxdude1234 02.26.2006 05:53 PM

Its probably that dodgy cell that you said was leaking. Thats probably why your packs are false peaking

coolhandcountry 02.26.2006 07:43 PM

What are the cell count to voltage reading? Have you tried to slow discharge them to see what is happening. Is one cell getting hot when trying to charge to. Sounds as if you have pack problems.

nitrostarter 02.26.2006 08:19 PM

A cell had touched the RC Monster Heatsink/clamp when I flipped hard and shorted out. I'm sending it in to get fixed. Bummer on the downtime, cause it flew!! And I just ran it on 14 GP3300's that I had and they seem faster also.

nitrostarter 03.29.2006 09:53 PM

Well, I'm back again. Except all good this time.

I just picked up a UE EXT susp. for pretty cheap and got it on there. Also got my 2 8cell packs reunited(sent one off) to run again. Got a new MGT, TNX, LST Crowd Pleazer 2 body all painted up(scratched like crazy already). NOw I'm ready to run.

So heres the list, Torpedo Chassis, FLM Bulks, UE EXT susp w/ Ti Pillowballs and massive Ti Turnbuckles, MIP CVDs, UE 6 spyders, Dace WingMount Towers, UE SuperShocks, 40 Series Road Rage/Velocity 6 wheels, Proline Servo Saver System, Hitec 5645 servo, BK18120/7XL, 16/51, 14 or 16 cells, RC-Monster motor clamp, RC-Monster idlers, Hitec Aggessor radio, I'll get some pics soon.

Soo, needless to say I called up my policeman friend, met him in a church parking lot. I started out with my 14cells GP3300, ran them a little bit(their kinda old also) and then radared it. I got 34mph tops out of it and wasnt happy. So I threw in the 16 IB3800s in there and what a difference. How about 44mph. I was like mmmmmmmmmmm I Likey:005: :005: :005: :005: That is fast. I can really tell the difference with the Proline servo saver. Last time i ran it before i shorted out batteries, it was hard to drive because it was so squirrelly. Now it pretty smooth and responsive.

Hope you guys can feel the excitement Im feeling right now.

HotnCold 03.30.2006 07:11 AM

Awesome - Glad it worked out for ya - Batteries make all the difference - now hit some lipos and let me know - Hold on to your hat......
