New Charger Recommendations
Well it seems my Bantam BC6-10 isn't working right anymore (see other thread I started), so it looks like im going to have to spring for a new charger :whip:. So im looking for some recommendations on the best bang for the buck, reliable charger.
I am leary about buying another Bantam, but from what I have read the balance "issues" arent a problem on their new BC8 DX charger, so that might be a possiblity but is quite pricey. Im also looking at the Hyperion EOS720i or EOS615i DUO III, the dual charge capabitlity of the DUO would be nice but again is pricey. Im really not sure what else is out there, as I have been out of the charger game for a while as up to this point my Bantam has never let me down. So let me know what you guys would recommend. |
Go with the Hyperion, a top of the line charger is a good investment.

Hyperion - lots of power, easy to use

I've read some good things about the icharger 1010b+(10s, 300w). It's not as powerfull as the duo 3(12s360w), but it is cheaper. There's a support thread on rcgroups and I believe firmware gets updated regularly. I ordered one myself, but don't have it yet. They also have a 8s, 350w version.
edit: I believe the NEU X10 charger is the same as the 1010b+ |

I have a FMA cellpro 10s and an icharger 106B (6s, 250w) and both chargers have done very well. I do think the Cellpro can read out to the 3 place past the decimal on voltages and gives more information back on the provided software, but the icharger has the advantage of charging nickle metal batteries.
It was a tough choice when I was shopping for a good charger. There are a lot of good choices out there now. |
Thanks for all of the input so far guys. Its going to be a hard decision to make, I am a little leary about some of the cheaper chargers listed above as far a quality and possible warranty issues. But the price makes up for a bunch of possible headaches too. Darn why did my Bantam have to quit.

iCharger 208B for me, should be fairly futureproof as it seems to do everything, and at a high rate too....great for the latest up to 5C charge rate packs....

I really like my Triton2 EQ personally, I don't like having to buy a seperate PSU to power my charger, I prefer all in one convienence.

I have been running a Hyperion charger for years, very reliable chargers with good features and specs at a good price. Hard to go wrong! I've been thinking of trying a cellpro or other charger, but the quality you get from a Hyperion is hard to turn down.
|
I suggest the iCharger line of chargers because I have personal experience using the 106b+ and it's great. I've also always heard people suggest Hyperion, so I'm sure that's a good bet too.

+1,000,000 Hyperion Duo, best RC purchase ever. 13.5A per side will do whatever you have, all battery types. You'll need balance adapters to suit your taps, so throw in about 12-15 bucks a set for those.
|
Thanks for all of the tips im really leaning towards one of the Hyperions.

I've been using the iCharger 208B. I was going to buy the Hyperion 720i, but noticed that the power output rating of the iCharger was 100W over the Hyperion. Even if that's a little exaggerated, it's still more powerful. I was charging a Hyperion 5S 5500mAh at 16.5A, and all was good, so it's certainly near to, or equal to its rating.
I did have a problem with my original, but I contacted Amain Hobbies who paid for my shipping back to them, paid for the new shipping, and also gave me a bit of store credit on top. All gone and back within a week (which is fantastic for just the US-UK, let alone both ways). The new one has performed faultlessly so far. |
Well guys I am going to get a Hyperion charger as I just got a credit on my paypal so that will cover most of the cost of the charger. The question is which should I get the EOS0615i DUO III or the EOS0720i, due to some discounts I can get the 0615i for about $60 more than the 720i, which should I get? I do like being able to charge 2 packs at once.
|
Well I got my EOS0615i Duo 3 today and so far I am pretty happy with it. It seems to charge and balance packs very well, it manage to get all of my 2s lipos back into spec after my broken bc6-10 couldnt keep them balanced. The menus are a bit more complicated than the bc6-10 but im sure I will be get used to them in time. I'm loving the ability to charge two packs at once, thats gonna be a huge time save. Overall very happy with my purchase.
I do have a question for all of the Hyperion owners out there as the instructions that come with the charger are complete crap. It seems that sometimes during a charge cycle the charger will beep once, (I have the TCS set at 100%) and continues on charging. What does this mean, why is my charger beeping at me? I was opening a beer one time it beeped, so I tried offering it one, but it didnt seem interested. |
Hyperion instructions are crap, I never bothered with mine (it's easy enough to use as it is). The beep could be a half charge indicator or something, just a subtle reminder that it's working.
|
it beeps now and then, just let it go till it plays the song you chose. Then its done.

Cool thanks guys, as you said it seems to be a normal thing. Would have been nice if they mentioned something in the instructions, not that anyone actually reads them. Although I did go looking when I started hearing beeps.
