Just stopping by...
Just thought Id check in on some old friends and let you guys know whats been happening in my life recently. Well I moved on from the R/C scene to the real deal unfortunately and now Im hooked.
I still have my 88 rx7 and I am ordering nicely used "but not damaged" 13b housings to port and sell. Ive got to say Im in over my head with recent projects aswell with my cars and my friends vw golf gti. My rx7 is now running better than ever and it will soon have a large street port aka "bridge port" to compensate with it. Ive actually found 1:1 to be quite fun and much more of a challenge to work on and I really do enjoy it. So yeah just thought Id stop by to say hi.:yipi: |
Nice to see you are still around. Sounds like your current project is coming along nicely. Best of luck w/that!
|
Sounds good, how much power you think you'll have when you're done with your 13B? Have you thought about doing a 26B? I know they can produce around 600-700HP without forced induction.

What I am thinking about doing is selling my current fc3s "2nd gen" rx7 for $2000 and buying an fb "2nd gen". Their smaller, lighter and they have the 12a.

Yea the 4-rotors sound like indy cars. :)
|
Glad to see your sticking with rotary and not doing a stupid chevy v8 swap. That is still to me one of the dumbest things you can do to an RX7.
You can get the 500+ from the 13b for sure, I had a friend with it done. When I get back around to it and have the time I plan on picking up an RX7 (probably an 89-91 GTU or GXL, don't want turbo) and fix it up proper like. |
When that happens post it on rcm for me. What type of porting will you be striving for?
|
i actually like those cars.. but they sound like suped up weed eaters.. dont get me wrong.. they cool as hell.. but im all about the RX7 with a swapped Chevy 400 small block.. now thats a odd ball.. altho i know u can achieve high HP with those other motors.. and pretty light-weight.. and if your street racing/drag strip racing i spose the lighter motor of the 2 would be ideal.. but nothing sounds like a american made V8.. just my opinion not bashing anything/anyone so dont take this the wrong way..
btw we've never met but Hello sorry to jack your thread..lol also wat kinda RCs did you have? |
Yeah, I hate the v8 conversions. Its like taking the soul from the car itself. If you get the proper exaust such as apexi, hks, borla it would sound nice but otherwise it can have a raspy sound. I personally think that if you go with the v8 conversion its the lazy way to gain power. Porting, tuning and properly maintaning a rotary engine can be a hassle but man let me tell you it definetly pays off.
I really cant name any particular r/c's I had because I had so many various ones but when I was in the hobby it was fun as hell. Just became obsolete when I found my way into 1:1. I also couldnt afford both hobbies so I stuck with the one I enjoyed the most. |
Im still debating on a Peripheral Port as seen in this pic..."potential for over 450hp"
http://www.mazdatrix.com/Pictures/racing/PPort2.jpg The ultimate form of rotary porting for maximum power CON'S: Excessive noise, extensive intake mods, very poor drivability and fuel consumption, relatively short engine life, very expensive, narrow power band. Or a Bridge Port as seen in this pic... "260-280hp" http://photos-e.ak.facebook.com/phot...556524_232.jpg PRO'S: Very good potential for power, increased rev-range CON'S: Poor drivability, fuel consumption and excessive noise |
lol.. to each his own.. but i noticed "poor driveability" a few times.. in all honesty ive never even took a air cleaner off a rotary engine.. and i've did anything from motor swapping to sprayin clear coat..

For the guys that think v8 swapped rx7's are retarded..I can see where you are coming from. However, you can't even begin to deny that for CHEAP you can get yourself into an iron block chevy 6.0l with a 4l80e or 4l60e with a 76mm turbo, cam, rod bolts, push rods and valve springs and make over 600rwhp reliably. My buddy's twin turbo 6.0l had those exact mods however with a th400 behind it and made right around 800 to the wheels..Fast enough to take his mustang to 9.51 in the 1/4.

More turbo ls power! That is me and a buddy doin a burnout, it's a single 88mm remote mount turbo with a whole bunch of work to the motor. Not entirely sure on the specs of it. It's been 9.38 in the 1/4, which between the weight and et should be roughly 1000hp with a 125 hit of nitrous. |
I would still rather have a rotary for the "oddball" affect. Its not everyday you can say "cool on the outside with a rotary inside"...
