It was a fun weekend but Mondays sucks! I'm late for work!

MetalMan 12.14.2009 11:52 AM

What is this, a teaser pic?? Looks like some sort of direct drive judging by the motor position and the pieces on either side of the motor. You know we need more pictures!!

V0RT3X 12.14.2009 02:14 PM

Might be a 1717 motor?

bruce750i 12.15.2009 05:13 AM

Your too good Metalman! Bingo Vort3x.

Here is a short video with some still shots mixed in.

It has a 1717 castle 1580kv motor(16t) MMM, AE center diff(52t), stock f/r diffs, Home made f/r drive shafts, both 4s or 6s configs inside the tvp's of a Savage X.

That truck will last about 3mins !! :)

JThiessen 12.15.2009 10:44 AM

Very nice work Bruce! I want to see some better pics of the center diff install.

bruce750i 12.15.2009 11:44 AM

Ha ha I know Speedy, I'll upgrade whatever when in blows out.

Thanks JT!
I've only been a Savy owner for a month. I got a lot of ideas off of RCM. I made this center diff set-up modular for future arrangements. You can release the cross walls from the tvps and slide them up and down in a track. Add different cross walls and spacers for different track(s) width for different center diffs, slipper or an outrunner maybe.

I re-used the old nitro motor and old bent tvp plate for skids / doors.

Thanks for looking.

I would like to thank the wife and kids for giving me the time to work on this build.

I like it! Gets rid of the "gearbox".

_dV 12.16.2009 04:17 AM

Nice design, well done.

I really like the idea of ditching the legacy 'nitro' gearbox. The Flux really is built out parts that were originally designed for nitro Savages. A redesign for electric would be nice for the next iteration of the Savage\Flux and it would be great if something like this was part of it.

The batteries seem to ride a bit high, although in the first pic of them in the vid they are oriented differently and seem lower. 4s vs 6s? Probably not a great deal you do about it? At least with the standard length chassis.

What weight diff fluid are you running or is it locked?

How did you make the f/r drive shafts?

bruce750i 12.16.2009 10:08 AM

Dv yeah I had (2)2s hard case lipos on their sides then (2)3s stacked. The lipo placement was a way around buying the flux trays. Not for sure on the diff fluid it's ether 500k or 10k. Feel likes 500k? For my the drive shafts I wanted to use some cheep hacked up screw driver shafts (chrome looking) but they were to hardened for my cheesy drill bits. I found some ornamental steel unhardened roses around the shop and hacked off the stems then I drilled the cross pins, cut up the same size drill bits as used for the hole for the pins. Slide the pins in, hit shaft with hammer to capture the pin, then ca glued them also.

MetalMan 12.16.2009 05:24 PM

Turned out great  I like your CD mount idea!

Gdot 12.17.2009 08:10 PM

cool job on this.. that's using your head and hands

Some pics of a 1520 installed.

Tooth Decay!
http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...d/DSC07766.jpg

After two days I think snow and salt took it's toll on my pinion! The mesh was loose if anything.

scarletboa 01.23.2010 10:40 PM

is that an rc-monster pinion?

i have an rc-monster pinion and a RR pinion and they are both showing almost as much wear as your pinion......i thought rc-monster and RR made the best ones?

suicideneil 01.23.2010 10:41 PM

Thats not one of Mike's pinions is it? :oh:

Bondonutz 01.24.2010 12:21 AM

It can't be ?? Thats a Novak or some elses gear .

bruce750i 01.24.2010 03:08 AM

I can't say for sure if it was a rcm pinion, but I can't fault it. I kind of neglected to dry and wd40 it after driving it in wet, salty and ice melt chems. Check out the set screw it was a small bolt hanging out too far. It rusted and broke off futher complicating the matter. Also I had a somewhat high motor rpm setup on 6s adding to the friction.

bruce750i 01.25.2010 06:09 PM

Took it out for spin today with the slipperential w/ mod.8 spur. Here are some on-board Ipod nano videos.

http://s300.photobucket.com/albums/n...ontlookout.flv

Riding a wheelie with the slipperential(100k) was no problem for the 1717:bad:....http://s300.photobucket.com/albums/n...nt=wheelie.flv

bruce750i 02.25.2010 01:21 PM

Update pics with mod .8 slipperential installed.

_dV 02.26.2010 04:15 PM

new driveshafts or just painted the old ones?

bruce750i 02.26.2010 05:06 PM

I just painted the old ones _dV, I also added some shrink tube to the ends of the drive shafts to take up play and to insulate for sound.

_dV 03.16.2010 03:57 AM

how does it feel to drive with the slipperential compared to the straight up diff you had before?

V0RT3X 03.20.2010 04:15 AM

Did you run the 1520 yet? How does it compare to the 1717?

bruce750i 03.22.2010 11:08 AM

With the slipperential I can dial out the wheelies, and smooth out the power supply.

From the small amount of running I did with the 1520 in the Savage-X it was snappy feeling and seamed as capable to move my Savage around as the 1717.

Here is some long range action with the 6s Savage-X17 on Tera-Pins. I am standing next to the camera guy up in some stadium bleachers using a HK2.4 radio system.

nitrostarter 03.22.2010 12:12 PM

Nice range there. Couldn't really get a feel for the Savage from that distance tho.

fastlane01 03.23.2010 05:42 PM

can you make another set up kie that? How much you want for it? LMK if you can. Thanks

rtoc 03.23.2010 07:31 PM

That thing hauls. I can see why you filmed from far away.

JThiessen 03.23.2010 08:16 PM

I dont think I could drive from that far away.
1) I couldnt see the dang thing, 2) I'd have haul my old butt down there every two minutes to flip it over, then I'd be dead......

fastlane01 03.23.2010 09:23 PM

that's a bad dude

_dV 04.10.2010 11:09 AM

Whats your current pinion, spur, motor kv(1580?) and batteries(same gearing for 4s\6s?)? How's motor\battery temps?

I was really taking it easing trying to be smooth and not flip it. I also kept imagining me running down the bleachers and across the field to my burning pile of savage.

The last time out it ran awesome with 15/65 6s 4000, 1717(1580) on big a$$ tires. The MMM's Fan seamed to keep up with heat pretty good. Start up was smooth and it was super quiet running a plastic spur.

Right now the Savage is down waiting for my maintenance and repair department to get to it. They(I) said it might be down for a week!

_dV 04.13.2010 07:36 AM

Thats seems like a fairly high gear reduction ratio for 6s? Brian G calc puts top speed only around 75 km\hr depending on tire size.

bruce750i 04.15.2010 11:23 PM

Not enough speed has not been a problem. I have really been liking these 6.0" Terra pins. I also run flux tires and badlands for even more low end power.
