To share, or to not share is the question.
Recently I've been thinking about why do I need three Monsters combos installed on three separate rcs? Couldn't with a little effort I just take one and move it to the other and put the right pinion on it? Yeah, but that can be a PIA. How about the receivers, they not a pia to move and rebind for the most part? They even make more sense to share between rcs. Why do I need 10 different receivers at 100 buck a pop? One controller, one RC, one hand (well two but you know what I mean), one RC at a time. Excluding the backup TX, and its backup TX, and the guest TX. We really only need one transmitter and one receiver. Starting out in the hobby it really didn't seem to be an issue or even a question. More of a gimmie, each RC needed to be complete each having it own motor/esc/rx even if they were the same RC.
Now the fleet has grown and I am wondering what the rest of the world is doing. Are you the type that has the discipline to buy just one esc/motor setup for example and share it between all your rcs it will work with? or Do you have an esc and motor installed in every RC even when it could be shared with another RC? Do you share receivers between rcs or have one for each RC? If you want to share why you have your setups the way you do and what is shared between which of your rcs. I like to read about it. Maybe how you justified all those MMM setups to the better half. There's the question of the day. Don't want to leave anyone out. So if you just getting started and only have the one rcs right now. Please feel free to participate in the poll. Just add the astrik (*) in the appropriate place. No RCs? Maybe just in the wrong place, wrong time?. We've all been there once or twice. Please add two astiks (**) if you take the poll before leaving. |
Back in the days of AM and brushed motors having multiple radios and escs for different vehicles was all good, but now that I'm paying double for most of these things I just stick to one of everything and a backup mmm. With that I feel like I can never go wrong.

I share RX's between cars. 3 nomadio and 2 airtronics is more then enough to spend on. Esc's and motors I share all the time. I can only drive one car at a time. I get bored with one setup after a while, so I always change my esc and motor combo.
|
Myself and all my buddies run spektrum. so All i do is swap receivers, swapping motors and escs are a pain
|
Simply for convenience, I have seperate systems for each vehicle. The only thing I share is the transmitter. Most of my setups use different combos, so made specifically for a certain ESC/motor (wire length, mounting, etc), so swapping things out would be more of a PITA.

The advantage of only owning one RC, I don't have to worry about this.
|
I have 1 TX, 4 RX, 4 mmm and 4 castle or neus, I have some 1/10th trucks with traxxas AMs and vxls or sc10 with losi 2.4 but 1 for 1 system otherwise sell it and fund a new fully functional ride

I like to have different vehicles for different things. What I don't understand is people who have 3 of the same vehicle. Makes no sense unless they are racing and want a spare handy in case one breaks and there is no time to fix it. |
Id like to have 2 muggys. 1 im not so attached to and mine so I can race someone with a similar vehicle when im playing around.
|
Each vehicle has it's own receiver when is its season. Out of season it serves as spare.
I got only two AMB transponders and 4 race cars. 2 for winter two for summer so they share them, however since I plan to race F1 also during summer i will probably get another AMB as i am just too lazy moving it. Spare servos are shared Rest of the electronics stays in the vehicle. I even have tools that stay home all the time and tools that stay in the race bag. Same with chargers. I am just too lazy and also if I remove something from my race bag I will most likely forget it to put it back. Switching models on my DX3R is ok :) |
Rx, Motor and ESC all stay with each vehicle. Even some of the batteries I have stay with a specific vehicle.
|
Is it bad when you actually have a couple spare brushless systems in the tool box, just in case one of your MMM systems goes T.U.????
Explaining it to the "better" half....ummmm....maybe she set the tone with "dont ask, dont tell".....been working so far!!! |
Well, I have 2 m11 radios. One is setup for 75mhz fm and the other is spectrum. I have about 10 specturm rx and maybe 20 fm rx. I also have the am module so I can run am rx if I so desire.
As far as swapping escs or motors, well that is a PITA. So I have alot of motors and escs. However, if you happen to have a selection of similar vehciles, swapping stuff would not be too bad. Or maybe have a backup roller in case you break alot at once, quicker to swap the elctronics and fix the broken one at a later date? |
Each of my vechiles have there own reciver, motor & esc .
|
All of my vehicles have their own set up except 1 which only shares a motor for now

Shear conveinence is my reasoning and because I can.
8 1/8 scales w/ 7 M.M.M. and need one more 2 1/10 scales w/2 M.M. 1 Spektrum & 10RX's 22 Lipos for the same reason, duplicates and them some for each truck so I can run one while another is charging or just drive another truck. Variety is a awesome thing. I have 10 for multiple reasons, I can afford them(sometimes) and have duplicates of my favorites. That way I can have the luxury to have different setups and always have spare parts. Also, Many of my friends have Spektrum and only 1 RC. When they have a problem or nothing to run due to breakage, no parts what ever. I let them drive my stuff, yeah Bind And Drive ! As far as the woman knows, she wouldn't care to hear how expensive all this shit is let alone what I've invested but is very supportive. When I'm home wrenching, she likes the idea I'm not out whoreing around or wasting money like sitting at a bar ? She has bought me several RC's over the years because she knows it's what makes me happy. |

you should have yours talk to mine.. mine hates when im playing with my "damn little truck" as she calls it alot.. i tell her i could be out cheating.. just be glad i've found a good way to spend my extra time instead of bringin home diseases  |
I run 1/8th scale buggy in the summer months and 1/12th scale GT in the winter months so it's no big deal to swap the Rx around. I guess I should say that and the AMB are the only things that I can swap around!

I get each R/C RTR with their own ESC and motor and try to run a Spektrum Rx in each one but I've got quite a few that are running AM or FM because I can't swing $100/ea. for new Rxes on everything. So I have 4-5 RCs running on my Spektrum and everything has a stock radio. I have 6 lipos that get shared amongst 7 or 8 of my RCs and the others all have to have their specialized lipos (my helicopter, planes, mini Revo, etc.)
|
I swap all my electrionic but the servo. I velcro my three 2.4g rx in everything. (now all i got is just the fuzzy side of my velcro left). I have so many platform, motor, voltage and pinion choices it's boring for me to drive the same set up two to three times in a row. Like the grass is always greeener on the other side type thing.

Man I type way to much in my posts! I've deleted a ton of BS out of it and it still toooo looooong. I'll try to keep the lengthy post to a minimum. It's probably already at the point you just skip mine.
Okay one liners and no over explaining what I am saying. I can relate to almost every one of these post and reason. Every rc fully setup or RTR is mine. RC just isn't complete otherwise. I do have more then one of the same rc. One has the nitro engine on it the other has a brushless. Also other rcs, not the same one, but same type like two truggies. Swapping brushless setup can be a pain but converting and unconvert, the converting agiain, then.... enough said. It used to be said the brushless was the more expensive way to go. Not fropm what I've expereiced the last two years runnng both. Nitro for me has been. H City lipos - Nitro $40 a gallon and it might last two weeks - Glow P 6 -8 each. Seems something always is breaking with when running the noise makers. Bondonutz - no bar anymore. Me to for my daughters, the hobby help fill my time. Oh, well the tavern and lounge I stopped at daily, both closed down at the same time too. It was a sign. I wanted to try both the futaba 4pk and Spektrum to decide which to go. I'm stuck in the middle now. I am changing my thinking of one RX per rc - same reason as Sullie I can picture BrianG wires are cut to the exact length for effeciency on his rcs. He just hasn't added that feature to the his web page for us yet. I know my wires are too long, anytime you wrap then around the body post to keep them from draggin. You wires are too long. Great hobby, as expensive as you want to make it. I just wish there was something we could do about the resale value of rc itself. The only thing that comes to mind right now that might be an investment would be finding that G3R shelf queen at an estate sale. I think something would be lost if I summarized this part: I appreciate everyone's responses so far. They have all helped me put in perspective what a nut Bondonutz really is. :) I am almost as bad withh rc like you are, but the lipos? JK We are all pretty far behind a certain pimp we all know. No cathching up with that mans resume of cars, motors, midgets, etc. has on it. I saw a resume some where that had a list of rc on it and hell it was long and that was two years ago. |

From what I've experienced there are some women that just hate not being the center of attention and despise anything or anyone that distract that from them. You are a lucky man or you just now how to pick em Bondonutz.
