cheap 2.4 ghz radio

i was looking to upgrade my current fm radio and saw these at hk.
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...z_2Ch_Tx_&_Rx_
im really looking for an increase in range and to eliminate any glitching on a budget

shaunjohnson 12.31.2009 01:29 AM

dont think i'd trust HK with something like that...
see if you can find an airtronics FHSS 3xx something rather.
i remember it was cheap.
or how about the new DX3 (insert letter here), that's cheap too.

lincpimp 12.31.2009 01:43 AM

25 bucks? Sounds like a deal to me. I just picked up a used m11 with spectrum module and rec for 12 bucks... But those deals do not come along very often.

scarletboa 12.31.2009 04:45 AM

i just got one of those for myself a couple a weeks ago. it is by far my favorite tx now and that is including my jr synthesized tx. i was having major glitching issues with AM and FM, so i finally made the surprisingly cheap jump to 2.4.

i have yet to make this thing glitch. i even ran it in my buggy with the dying pinion gear that makes a ton of noise and even when the buggy was as far as i could see it, i still had perfect control.

the rx is veeery tiny and only weighs about 5 grams. the antenna is also nice and short. this radio is great and works great and i will be ordering at least 1 more. also, spare rx are only about $6.

bruce750i 12.31.2009 11:42 AM

It's weird tho the $7.00 rx is 3ch where the tx is 2ch? I got three rx and one tx on the way. I hope it binds with my losi/spek tx. The down side is the tx is 12v :( Thats why I like the 6v losi tx.

I am looking for a cheap 2.4GHz solution too. I am really interested in this radio, but I don't want to pay $15 in shipping for it . Does anyone know of a way to get around that or perhaps the same radio at a different site?

Maybe we could have someone order, say 4 or 5 of them and charge $5 shipping (Flat rate Priority Mail) + the $25 for the radio, so $30 shipped for one. Just a thought.

Thanks,
Brijar!!!

Oops just kidding. Forgot to select US as shipping destination. Only $8, not $15.

I wouldn't hold your breath, as much as I would love to be able to buy $7 Rx's to use with my Spektrum system I would be extremely surprised if it worked. Ya never know though. Let us know what happens when you try it out.

etc1006 12.31.2009 10:13 PM

Won't bind with Spektrum. This rx is the same as the Eurgle. I have the Eurgle setup and 5 rx's for my stuff.

shaunjohnson 12.31.2009 11:34 PM

this system has GOT to be FHSS.
that system is cheaper to produce, the spektrum uses DSM which IMO is better in some ways.

so this system MAY bind with some of the futaba FAAST systems.

fastbaja5b 12.31.2009 11:50 PM

Been using this with my Mini Revo, not a fancy controller but quite responsive, good easy to use controls and the range is better than my mates DX3S and on par with my KO EX-5UR

Certainly no glitches or any sign of any interferance.

bruce750i 01.01.2010 12:36 AM

Oh well it won't bind with specky. I'll sell the specky and import 5 more rx of the hobbykong's, If they are any good.

I think i already know the answer, but to all that have this radio, How many models does it support? I am looking at getting the traxxas setup due to it supporting twenty, Not that i'll need twenty but it's nice to have one radio for everything I'll need

It has no model memory but can be bound to an infinte number of receivers

slimthelineman 01.01.2010 11:36 AM

pmed... is this controller comparable to the hobby king one?

etc1006 01.01.2010 05:55 PM

The Eurgle will program 10. I so far have my MLST and 'Pede on it. Need to do the E MAxx, Mini Baja, and maybe the Pro-Pulse... It has a gazillion different settings. So many it boggles my mind, LOL!

What exactly is the eurgle radio? Got a link? And is this HK radio supposed to be the same type?

I found the same radio at landseaair site, you say it's rubbish, how about anyone else? Looking for a cheap reliable easy to use radio, Right now i'm looking at the airtronics MX3 2.4 or the traxxas 2.4

the hobbyking radio is about as simple and easy to use as it gets. it comes pre-bound from the factory and is has epa and trim knobs. it it as simple as it gets.

another note: it doesn't look nearly as bad in person IMO. it looks like shit on the website, but i actually like the color scheme in person. also, this radio doesn't feel cheap like i expected it to. it feels more solid than my HPI and traxxas radios. the feel and quality of the materials is similar to my airtronics mx-3. my JR radio still feels more solid though.
