That's nothing...my father in law has 45 rifles, 8 shotguns, 20 9mm and 20 revolvers. As well as a special collection of colt revolvers he does not shoot which total 10 more. He did his yearly inventory before x-mass for his ins. co.

Well, here goes.

I hate vista, so I run XP still. My tower was getting a bit tired, maybe 3yrs old (or more) so my buddy sold me his newer tower minus HD and cd drive. Swapped the HD and cd from the old unit in and fired it up. Turns out the OB sound card in his newer tower is setup for vista only so XP will not work with it. I bought a cheapy sound card (4 bucks shipped from japan!) but have yet to install it... Busy doing anything else! Might get win 7 put on it, who knows. I like the interface with win 7.

I am cheap, I even found a very old pc with a 20gig HD and had a stripped copy of xp on it and will use the old tower with that HD to run internet only in my hobby room. That way I can pull up rcm and manuals and such without having to go downstaris to the office pc. Yes I am very cheap, but I hate junking stuff that still worrks, or at least has potential!

What's_nitro? 01.02.2010 02:13 AM

Hmm, I feel like I typed that post for you... I can relate to and/or agree with everything you wrote!

You must be VERY busy if you can't find time to install a sound card... I have an idea- Instead of spending ten minutes with yourself, spend it with your computer! :mdr:

Holy crap, that might be my new favorite song! Good stuff, I needed that.

76Bentley 01.03.2010 05:12 PM

I think that would make a good ring tone too, but the wife might not be seen out in public with me any more.

Good to see that some rc lovers are alos gun lovers too!

As most of you know my other hobby (pimping is a lifestyle BTW) happens to be gunsmithing and refinishing firearms. I enjoy inspecting the mechanical genius that lies inside of guns. While electronics are very interesting I always find mechanical stuff to be mind blowing. Especially when I can see a part that has been refined to do the job of multiple other parts and also be easy to manufacture.

I often think about the valve train im my lightning motor when I am pushing it past 6k rpms. Cams are spinning at 3k rpm and all of the valves are opening and closng in fractions of a second, all while the blower is pushing 10k rpm and forcing all of the air in (being a roots style it is positive displacement). And a poor valve spring has to overcome all of this force and make the valve (which is pretty cool in its simplicity) seal up properly. And then there is alot of fire (fire is cool) and it all starts over again. Maybe just me, but I like thinking about this stuff. I often look at mechanical items and try to imagine exactly how they work.

But taking apart a gun and inspecting its workings, then attempting to reassemble it just by looking at the interface realtionships of the parts is a ton of fun. Especially if you lack an exploded diagram to eyeball!

Well said linc, and I totally agree. I often find myself thinking about the exact workings of all kinds of things be it motors, RC, guns, etc. Although I don't have as many as I would like (who ever does?), guns are sweet.

Yes they are, and I could have them all and it would not be enough!!!

Shot the Desert Eagle in 44mag today for the 1st time since I bought it. Wow, that was fun. Glad I had a good grip, but the recoil was not as bad as I had expected. I have shot 44 mag before out of a revolver, and the DE did tame the recoil a bit. Time to go to the range and check all of my magazines for function (and piss off all of the other guys who are trying to shoot 9mm)!!!!

Nice - dude that's hilarious. When I go to the range you can definitely tell when the "guy next door" is shooting a big gun. I'm not as hard core as you but love my guns none the less. I'm the guy shooting the 9mm, but definitely not getting pissed when someone busts out the 44 mag, .45 etc

My weapon of choice right now is my Springfield XDM 9 in stainless. I also like my vintage S&W Model 41 - serial no. 4000. I think the next addition will be the AK.

I have a bunch of 9mm guns, most of my favorites are 9mm or 40 cal. I was referring to the guys who just cannot shoot to save their lives. Bad stance, limp wristing, just doing everything wrong. I am sure you are not one of them.

Last time i went some guy was having trouble with a little polymner framed 9, I forget which type. He was barely hitting the target and was having all kinds of feed issues and when it did run he was getting hit in the forehead by the brass. I watched him for a mag or two and went over to see what was wrong. He was pissed to say the least. I stripped the gun and it looked ok, still had the packing grease in it. He had some cleaning supplies so I gave it a clean, oiled it and asked if he would be ok with me shooting a few rounds out of it. He was just happy that I was helping so he let me go with it. Gave him some time to cool off. I had no issues, and the gun was reasonably accurate (he had to buy another target when I was done with the first) After 50 or so rounds (I shot most of his ammo, hehehe) I stripped it again and everything looked ok. So I handed it back to him with a clean bill of health, and went back to my stuff. He picked up another box of ammo and a target and was about ready to go just as i was leaving. Well, he had the same issues, and I was watching him this time. Poor grasp, and he was limp wristing the gun. I tried to tell him what was wrong but he just got pissed again. So I left. What a dumbass. He was still blaming the gun even after I cleaned it and shot is with no issue. Some people....

I see this alot, and if we are on the outdoor range and shooting the metal fall down style targets I tend to piss a few people off. I have a few guns that I just shoot very well. I can usually hit about 95% of what I aim at, and do it quickly. No idea if the DE will be an accurate gun for me, but if it is the guys who are shooting the metal targets and missing with their 9mm will be a bit miffed if I can hit them with a 44mag.

The XdM is a nice gun, I have looked into buying one but I would have to sell off one of my other 9mm guns (and I am not to sure what to sell) if I plan to buy another. I do not really favor polymer frame guns, although I have a few (glock, steyr, taurus, keltec, FN, etc) just seem to prefer all steel guns. I am looking into buying a new Para Ordnance GI Expert. I have a P14, and the Expert is Para's entry level single stack 1911. It is getting good reviews and for 500 bucks I cannot go wrong.

An Ak is a good choice. If you can find one in the ak74 round, 5.45x39, you can get surplus ammo pretty cheap for them right now, like 120 or so for 1000rds...

Sower 01.04.2010 01:28 PM

That's pretty funny - it's really too bad though when you get someone that could really use the help but could use some humility even more. I love to learn from people and don't claim to be any kind of gun expert. I just pick up a little bit more each time I go. Target shooting is a blast though. If you ever get a chance - one of the best guns to shoot for target practice is the Model 41. It's just a .22 but it's so accurate and butter smooth. Looks almost like a 1911 too so that's really cool.

A little off topic but where is the best place on-line to buy ammo? 3 friends and I want to go in together on some ammo. We all have 9mm and would like to get 1,000 rounds each.

I don't know. I typically pick up ammo at Walmart. They don't always have it, but when they do, it's priced right. I picked up another 300 the other day. Hope that helps.

Hmm, well I usually just google the round I am looking for and go from there.

You can also use ammoengine.com Works pretty good, but not always the lowest prices. Like a search engine for ammo. Look around on the sites with the cheap ammo, like ammo to go, they usually have some specials.

Sportsman's Guide has some mil surplus 9mm really cheap recently. Sign up for their members program and you will save a good amount.

Also centerfire had some good ammo deals.

And walmart has the bulk box stuff for about 20-23 bucks for 100. Not too bad, but you pay tax.

Great, thanks
